We had to change our original plans due to a storm that block us and were then force to take a suite. The room was really nice with an amazing light and view from the bed.
We had great breakfast in the morning and very good diner as well.
The hotel is well located to stay few days and enjoy the surroundings.
The family-run Vogafjos Guesthouse is set in a unique natural environment on the eastern shore of Lake Myvatn. It offers rooms with a patio and free Wi-Fi.

An excellent place to stay next to Lake Myvatn. Located close to Hverir geothermal area and Myvatn Nature Baths (well worth a visit). The restaurant here is superb and the buffet breakfast the best we had in Iceland with meats and cheeses etc. from the farm (there is a very strong farm to plate ethic going on here). The room itself was well sized but cozy and warm (it was minus 13 in the morning so this was important!). Plus you can go and pet the cows and calves!
Offering a shared kitchen/lounge and mountain views, Skútustadir Guesthouse is set on a farm by the southern shore of Lake Mývatn. WiFi and parking are free.

The house is beautiful, great location if you want to do the diamond circle, BIG bedrooms, and the beds are very comfortable. The kitchen is great for cooking (you have everything you need) and the dining room offers stunning views. Also very friendly dogs!

Upon arriving at the location we were told that the hostel was under construction on short notice so they upgraded us to one of their cottages. The staff were very helpful and we had an amazing stay. Even though the weather wasn’t the best that day we still had a stunning view over the lava field and the lake.

Lovely location with a view across to a volcano. Very comfortable apartment that was perfect for us travelling with adult children. Hosts were friendly and helpful.
Eldá Guesthouse is located in Reykjahlíð, just a few minutes on foot from Lake Myvatn. There is a golf course 750 metres from the property. Each room includes a work desk, a wash basin and free WiFi.
Fly to Akureyri Airport from Reykjavik (45-minute flight), then drive to Myvatn (90km, about 1 hour). International travellers can fly to Keflavik Airport, transfer to Reykjavik (50km, about 45 minutes), then follow the domestic route.
The most convenient airport for both domestic and international travellers is Akureyri Airport, due to its proximity and regular flights. It's approximately 100km from Myvatn, a journey of around 1 hour and 15 minutes by car.
Myvatn, Iceland, lacks public transport. The best options are hiring a car or cycling. Car rental services are available in nearby Akureyri and Reykjahlíð. Cycling is feasible during summer months, with bike rentals available locally. Walking is also an option, but distances between attractions can be considerable. Always check local weather conditions before setting out.
Reykjahlíð is the best area to stay in Mývatn, Iceland. It's conveniently located near the lake, natural baths, and volcanic features. It offers a variety of accommodations, dining options, and is a hub for local tours.

It's a beautiful lava field and lake system. Old volcanos and lava flows. Dimmuborgir is a legendary place where the Yule Lads sleep through the summer. Bear in mind that the summer can have hatches of midges.
Krafla Power Station, active geothermal mud pools, Mývatn Nature Baths.
If you travel in the winter it's a great place to see the Aurora as practically no light pollution.
Obviously it's not as nice as Akureyri, but I would say that as I live there

Myvatn Lake certainly has beautiful scenery and the weather is typically warmer than the coast. For the full service/hotel travelers I would recommend Fosshotel. For campers there is plenty of accommodations.

So much to see and do in this area!
So much to see and do in this area! Thankfully we were up and out just after nine! We packed in so much! Lots to see down the eastern side of the lake. Each activity offered us something different and unusual that we hadn’t experienced before. The thermal baths there, although smaller than the Blue Lagoon, are much cheaper and actually offer senior rates. Two pools, one warmer than the other and one sort of large hot tub area. Well worth the money! The cakes in the restaurant there and the coffee were some of the best we’ve had and are reasonably priced. They also have larger meals and soups on offer.

Myvatn is a beautiful lake, and the surroundings have plenty to offer to visit and for hiking. It has a great variety of scenic points and shorter and longer walks. At Skutustadir is a nice information centre that also a small exhibition explaining the origin of the circle of craters over there.

Although it was a long drive from the west of Iceland, it was well worth it. There are so many hidden gems: 2 grottos, a fissure off the beaten path, a nature bath that rivals blue lagoon, and so much more. It's also not crowded due to the location. Well worth the drive!
The location is great, just across from the visitor center and the lake Myvatn. The breakfast is wonderful. The milk is fresh and organic, coming from their own cows. The eggs are from the raised chickens. They have home made ice cream made from the fresh cows milking. I had opportunity to watch the cows’ milking process. We stayed for 3 nights to visit all the attractions nearby. We had the Myvatn nature baths after long days’ volcano hike not far away. The staff and owners are very friendly.
We really enjoyed our stay at the farm guesthouse. Everything was perfectly clean, the beds were comfy, the kitchen is very well equipped and the bathroom is practical and very clean as well. The high note of our stay was of course the breakfast buffet, which was amazing. Homemade products, savory and sweet food, there’s everything you can hope for. We even were able to purchase homemade ice-creams when we arrived, and they were delicious! It’s also perfectly located close to lake Mývatn.
This is our third stay with Sel Hotel in Mývatn. It is the location, comfort and hospitality making us coming back and again. Rooms are spacious and if you've been given a room facing the front road, you could see the lake and northern light from your window. Breakfast with lots of choices and staffs are always friendly. We had several dinners at the hotel and each time no disappointment! I love staying with Sel Hotel and would recommend it to anyone going to Mývatn.
The staff was great! Fion especially went out of his way to be kind and helpful. This despite being at the front desk when I left in the morning and when I returned in the evening. I got in quite late my first night there, and he was very welcoming. He seemingly worked hard but was ever-patient; his value to Hotel Laxa is evident. Also, the hotel was very amenable to ensuring I had no down feathers in my room (allergies).
We stayed many places in Iceland and this was our treat ourselves hotel for our trip, and we couldn't be happier with our stay! At booking I let the hotel know this was my honeymoon and they went above and beyond to welcome us. The room was a great size and the view was amazing!
The best part was the sauna! A dry sauna - with a view! And when you get too hot a little porch to sit on to look over the lava fields.
We stayed in a two bedroom cottage and it was absolutely perfect to explore the Myvatn Lake area. The place is well equipped and quite spacious.
Be sure not to miss the breakfast if you are staying there - they have a small buffet of local/homemade products and it was delicious. Would stay there again only for the breakfast ! They also sell some of their farm products on site which was great.
The campground hosts were very helpful in providing information. The huts are close to a supermarket/gas station and Myvatn lake seems like a vacation spot for the locals. I really liked having a porch to sit on at the end of the day. We used the kitchen of the hostel down the road. The campground bathrooms and showers were kept clean and were walking distance from the huts.
We did a tour around Iceland and we stayed one night at Aska Modern Cabin. The cabin is situated in a perfect location near Myvatn lake. The reception is nearby and the crew is helpful and friendly. The cabin has all the facilities you need, even a small kitchen if you want do do your own cooking. And we could park the car really nearby.
Our fifth overnight stop along Ring Road was spent at this hotel, conveniently located near many of the sites the Myvatn area has to offer. Comfortable beds, plenty of choices offered during the breakfast buffet, and modern accommodations made this a welcomed stop after a long day. Would recommend without hesitation.
Location is nice, around what's important in Myvatn.
Room is comfy
People are very respectful, since the building is a bungalow it could have been a way worse experience if people were not.
Overall we had a nice stay but compared to all other hotels we had we think it's a bit too expensive for the service offered.
This hotel is convenient to exploring the whole Myvatn area. Rooms are clean and comfortable, if a bit dated. The included breakfast was pretty good with lots of options (including make your own waffles), and the on-site restaurant was a good place to grab dinner.
Very nice hotel in very good location to explore the area around lake Myvatn. The room was very clean and the beds very comfortable. The breakfast buffet offered a very good variety of food. We can recommend this hotel!
Small room in a cottage, clean and pleasantly warm, no breakfast, helpful staff, quiet place, near Lake Myvatn and Myvatn Nature Bath (like Blue Lagoon but not to much people) and not far from Dettifos,
The location is very good, close to the lake. The owner of the property is a very nice person. had a nice and informative talk after dinner. This hotel is more a family house with a pleasant atmosphere.
