I like that this hotel chain has free breakfast.
The staff was also very friendly and tried to communicate with hands and feet. Apparently nobody speaks English. I speak a bit Japanese though so it wasn’t a problem. They tried to communicate as best as they could and that’s what matters.

Really enjoyed Matsuyama and was sad to leave.
Really enjoyed Matsuyama and was sad to leave. The castle (with its chair lift up to it) was great. There are lots of options for shopping, eating and drinking and the whole area around Dogo Onsen is very nice.

Where there isn’t the sea, the city is surrounded by mountains. With the hill that has the castle on top, it creates a nice atmosphere. The onsen town (Dogo onsen) is where I mostly stayed. It was fun to see people walking around in the street in their yukata.
Like in many Japanese cities, the tram is cute and all, but it’s very inefficient. Moreover, you can only pay with cash or their local IC card. You cannot use standard IC cards like Pasmo, Suica, etc.
We ate at our wonderful hotel (Kowakuen) so I cannot speak about the restaurants.

Beautiful city full of amazing places to visit.
Beautiful city full of amazing places to visit. The must visits are of course the mountain top castle named Matsuyama Castle and also so many others like the Okaido shopping street and the Bansuino old French-style house. There are also delicious foods to try such as the Taimeshi which was delicious as well as the amazingly delicious oranges (mikaan) around the city. There are so many shops selling mikaan and mikaan juice that if you like fruits, you will love this city.

Matsuyama, in the winter at least, is pretty boring.
Matsuyama, in the winter at least, is pretty boring. The big onsen that they go on about is a tourist trap so I would not waste your time. I was told Spring and Fall were the best times to go as the Summer is hot and humid. The people seem OK but don’t really want to be bothered by foreigners.

I visited Matsuyama as part of the 88 temple Henro pilgrimage and so took in several temples, shrines and the Matsuyama Castle which is the most impressive castle I have visited in Japan thus far. The hot springs are also excellent and plenty of nightlife options.
If you love ryokans and art, and you are in Matsuyama, YOU HAVE TO STAY HERE!!! It was just a beautiful experience. Tani san was a very gracious, kind and understanding host. The property itself is a traditional Japanese house with two small gardens with ponds and rivers and fishes and moss...very well maintained. Despite being an old Japanese house, all the amenities are high-tech. And the whole place is wonderfully decorated with various pieces of art. It's just a great place to stay!...O, and there is pick up and drop off too!
The hotel is perfectly located in Dogo Onsen with private access via elevator to the main shopping district. Everything looks brand new throughout the hotel and my room offered a balcony with spectacular views of Matsuyama with its Castle and the mountain range in the distance. The onsen on the top floor is very nice with an open-air bath and might be the best in the area. The staff was kind and helpful and the breakfast was just delicious. I also enjoyed the live piano evenings at the lobby.
I loved absolutely everything about my stay! The room was so spacious (the most spacious hotel room I've ever stayed in in Japan) and the onsen was incredibly comfortable. Everything that I could possibly need was provided and the tram stop to get you to the station and/Dogo Onsen is just a short walk away, making this very conveniently located. Would absolutely stay there again if I could and would wholeheartedly recommend that others do too!
The public spaces in this hotel are beautiful, if a bit dated. My room was arranged in a very comfortable, efficient way. There was a closet, a rarity for Japanese hotels in this price range. The onsen was lovely. I did not eat any meals there, but there are many nice restaurants in the neighborhood, and I had no trouble finding good dinners. It is only a five minute walk from the streetcar which connects you to the rest of Matsuyama.
A traditional Japanese onsen with all the modern conveniences woven in. The staff was exceptionally helpful and caring. When we came by taxi, we were surprised that the taxi driver would not take a credit card, and explained the problem to the staff, who promptly paid the driver with cash, just adding that to our bill. An early morning dip in the onsen was divine, and the dinner superb. This is a 10+ place to stay.
Location: it was in the middle of everything. A waslking distance from the ropeway entrance of Matsuyama Castle, and tram going to Dōgō Onsen is just a stone's throw away. Plenty of shopping mall and restaurants around to choose from
Room: it was bigger than what you would expect from a hotel chain catered for Japanese businessmen. It also has separate tub and shower room, which is a rarity
best accomodation I’ve had in the whole 4 weeks of staying in japan. staff are attentive and polite, excellent onsite facilities - including onsen which I loved. beautifully decorated interior of hotel and the rooms, only stayed one night but wished I stayed longer. good location, excellent included breakfast - the emperor has stayed here so you know it must be good
The location was walking distance to the Dougo Onsen area with its numerous shopping arcades and restaurants. The room was spacious and clean. The public baths were amazing. The breakfast spread (you can choose between Japanese or Western) was bountiful and delicious.
The hotel is an excellent location, super close to the Matsuyama Station (about 15-16 min walk). The hotel staff were kind and helpful and the room was really spacious and comfortable. The pillows were super comfortable and the WiFi was quite fast as well.
Best value in Matsuyama.
This bunk house is right next to Dogo Onsen. It's a perfect, cheap stop along the pilgrimage route.
I spent 3 days here while my legs recovered. It's less than 3 minutes to a bus and train area to take you all over the area.
Business hotel, central location. Rooms are small, same as the bathrooms, but clean and with everything what a traveler needs. Our nonsmoking room was quiet and the AC was efficient. Breakfast was buffet style with Japanese food, lot of choice.
Location is near matsuyama castle and shopping street. Breakfast is delicious and staffs at reception counter are polite and helpful. Parking is next to hotel. Room is spacious and comfortable.
It was a very modern hotel. I thought it was a lot like Nordic Choice Hotels. Room was great, air conditioning worked well. The window opened as well. Spa was great. Sauna still smelled new
Very convenient location. From Matsuyama Airport, there is a limousine bus and when you get off at Okaido Bus stop, just a 5 min. walking distance to the Hotel.
