I like Whakatane area it has some great shop's, but when were in the Bay of Plenty we spend most of our time in beautiful Matata and Kawerau visiting with whanau. The beaches in Matata are truly beautiful, Matata is another great place to visit it's 20mins out of Whakatane great for fishing.

Whakatane is great for walkers with plenty of paths and toilets. Its family friendly and very clean. Pedestrian crossings seem to be missing but the locals were great and stopped at all the courtesy stops. We found some great places to eat and notes the town had more than everything you would need. Impressive little place for a short stay.

Whakatane has a huge variety of shopping stores, eating facilities, bars, hairdressers in fact everything really and for everyone. The Hub which is just across the bridge is another shopping area with Kmart and Briscoe being my favourites but again shopping for everyone. Bunnings the huge warehouse is a goldmine easy to get carried away when shopping there. The walkway/cycling lane along the waterfront is an awesome stroll. Accomodation....heaps to choose from....you have to visit to appreciate Whakatane.

We loved Whakatane.
We loved Whakatane. Wandering around the shops or along the river was lovely. We enjoyed watching the boats and everyone was very friendly. Over the hill at Ohope Beach was brilliant for sea swimming.
The location is stunning with glorious views. Peace and tranquility and a great place to be re-energised . THe home is an easy drive to Whakatane and Ohope
Viv is a caring hostess with pays attention to detail and ensuring our comfort at all times. She provided valuable information about the area, places to see, where to eat, best travel routes etc. Our accommodation was immaculate. we had everything we needed and more .
The Motel Lodge has been recently refurbished and everything is lovely, new and clean. The friendly receptionist had upgraded us to a 2 bedroom apartment and we were amazed and thought it was the best hotel we had stayed at. The rooms were large and comfortable with a lovely courtyard and view to the garden. it was very private and tastefully decorated.
Stayed here 1-2 nights a week for several months while working in Whakatane. Good budget accomodation with old but comfortable rooms. The receptionist, Nok, would let me check in early if the room was ready. Note that the single with ensuite also has a TV, which the single with shared bathroom does not. Will probably stay here again if I stay in Whakatane.
The staff were so amazing and generous considering the visitors we had, But again so considerate and friendly would recommend to anyone wanting to stay anywhere in Whakatane. We had pre drinks in our motel before we went to our event and they let us on the Table outside and even brought us some light. Thank yous once again for the awesome Hospitality.
We appreciated our stay at the Cortez. It accommodated our family. We near had the entire complex to ourselves as we had booked in advance, this could've been a nightmare for hotel owners, however, they were so relaxed and accommodating that we chose to spend most of our time at the motel. We will definitely be booking with them again.
The motel is immaculate inside & out, the managers are very accommodating. Our room very spacious everything good quality also only motel we have ever stayed in with a large smart tv with all sky channels available. One of the cleanest motels we've stayed in, very central to all our needs. Will definitely stay again.
Have stayed in a few different places in Whakatane but! This place is Excellent. The micro units are fab, very clean, spacious in every way, great bed , accomodating staff. The cafe serves up really nice food great for breakie. Look forward to our next stay.
Overall it’s just a fantastic place to stay with a fairly large group!!! our whanau enjoyed the facilities and everything that the park had to offer! (From the carts to the bouncy pillow to the cabins). A truly exceptional place to stay.
Jill was pleasant, friendly and kind. The Landing Motel is our favourite Whakatane accomodation because it’s clean, inviting, warm and the spa bath is a real treat for us, healing and soothing for our tired working bodies.
Great little unit, plenty of space and very cozy with air con and couch and dining table, two double beds, very nice, I would highly recommend this place if you are coming to Whakatane.
We're reasonably experienced travellers and 37 The Landing Motel would easily rate as one of the best motels we've ever stayed at. Friendly staff, spacious accommodation and very clean.
One of the best places I have ever stayed at in New Zealand. We had a two bedroom suite and we will definitely be back, it was nicer than a 5 star hotel
