Global Village Travelers hostel was the most attractive of the six I stayed in during my visit to the West Coast. It was clean, well decorated, and welcoming. Each bed of my female only dorm room had its own electrical outlet and light. The kitchen was clean and well stocked with cookware. Lots of books and pamphlets in the common rooms about the surrounding area. I recommend it highly for solo female travelers!

Very good stopping pony to visit pancake rocks and the blow holes. We walked to the coal creek falls which was lovely. We drove to Franz Josef, Fox Glacier and Hokitika. Greymouth was okay but there is absolutely nothing to do when it’s raining. Its only a small town.. the big pils is it has no traffic lights!

We enjoyed eating at the Speights Ale House and having coffee at the Robert Harris Coffee lounge. Our stay at the Sundowner Motel was clean and spacious. Our hosts were helpful and this made our stay enjoyable. The information boards around the town were interesting to read as we walked around but once we had accomplished this there was not a lot else to do. We would have liked to hire a car and explore further a field but no one would allow us to hire a car for a day.

Greymouth itself is not very attractive but the coastal drive north to Punakaiki offers fantastic scenery, and Hokitika Gorge to the south will not disappoint. There’s a small restaurant in Greymouth called Sevenpenny which was very good, far better than the overpriced restaurant in our hotel.

The proprietor's wife is now withholding the pair of jeans I had accidentally left behind.
Having phoned the motel, the proprietor's wife advised me to send a self-addressed and stamped envelope to the motel for them to forward my black jeans to my next accommodation in NZ. When she realised I was the guest who had requested a replacement for a broken toaster and scratched frying pan during our stay (the husband had kindly replaced both items within 40 minutes), she sent the following message to my phone:"LOL after how much we went out of our way for you and yet you thought things were disgusting here! Good luck with the return of your jeans." End of quote. Needless to say we are dismayed that a proprietor would threaten to withhold a paying customer's property and have subsequently contacted booking.com and gave filed a complaint. We are awaiting their response.
We had a lovely stay, there was everything we needed, loved the animals and being able to walk around and pet them and feed them. We felt very much at home. We loved the welcome letter and treats, fresh bread still hot out of the bread maker for breakfast with boiled eggs was a real treat.for dinner it was a 2 min walk to local Hotel for dinner which was perfect after a day of driving. Toby the dog was so lovely and gentle , he loves his ball as much as people to throw it for him.
The Duke Hostel was a brilliant two-night stay for us! Firstly, the owner is super friendly and a really nice and helpful guy.
Next up, the rooms, kitchen, bathrooms were all immaculate and exceptionally clean. The bed was extra comfy! The communal kitchen had everything we needed and was very well kept.
This is one of the best hostels we've stayed in during our 5 week trip through New Zealand and we'd definitely recommend staying here!
Thanks!
Motel proprietor was absolutely lovely. The double studio rooms were spotless, and really nice. The decor is slightly dated, but really nice, and certainly not a negative...very cool infact. The kitchen, bathroom and toilet facilities were spotless and all worked as they should. A lovely location, and a nice break from the being in town. The drive to town is short and easy.
Our last hostel of six weeks around New Zealand turned out to be the best. This hostel is located in such a beautiful and historic building, extremely clean, safe and quiet. Staff were so welcoming and we had a wonderful night’s sleep in the Elephant Room downstairs. The shared spaces are large, bright and comfortable also. Thank you for a lovely stay.
The best part of Copthorne Greymouth is the staff. He tangata, he tangata. The next best thing is Jimmy Cook's. The menu and wine list are good, but the food itself is "insert chef's kiss here". I can't go past the beds. They are incredibly comfortable. The rooms, while a little tired, are kept very clean.
We were so amazed at the service and the room. We were travelling on the Tranz Alpine and the host let us leave our car on the motels property. He even gave us a ride to the train station Would highly recommend this motel Best service and room we have stayed in so far. We are travelling the South Island
We stayed in the basic cabins witch were pefect for us the shared facilities were excellent abd the shared bathrooms were individual rooms and very modern and nicer than some motels. The kids enjoyed the playground and the evening walks along the beach i can't speak highly enough of the campground
This is the best hotel in Greymouth. Good location, free parking and there is everything you need for family travels. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and they responded to our emergency situation very swiftly. Thanks for making our stay at Copthorne a pleasant one.
It was so clean everything looked brand new. Also the Sky TV was a My Sky TV so we could see heaps of channels and pause and record etc what we were viewing. Very few motels seem to have this. It was great for our relaxation times we spent there.
What’s up boutiques style motel. The owners offer a no host dinner, which was amazing and we suggest you opt in when they ask if you would like to join in the dinner. The dinner is a great bargain the food is delicious.
Great property on all fronts, from the first time I met the hosts to the time of departure. Great location close to Greymouth and Hokitika. Loved the home away from home ambience and enjoyed interacting with the hosts.
It was very warm welcome owner Bernie & staff. very yummy restaurant and near to Hokitika too.
Definitely when we come back to West Coast, we will choose Paroa Hotel.
100% recommend.
Handy to town
Right next to a restaurant
Ten to fifteen min walk to beach, hospital and supermarket

Pet friendly on request
Great value for money
