The beach access, wild and rugged, easily accessible along the coast. If you into photography plenty of opportunities for great photos or painting. The kids loved the glow worms, it was not a big walk to view them - 20 meters of the roadside and free, you are able to make a donation at start of the trail for maintenance and upkeep of track, which would be wheelchair accessible. We went to the local picture theatre, seating and service very good. The glass blowing is amazing to watch, the kids and adults were quite intrigued. Shanty town was a great day trip, riding the train, learning early history of the coast - the best scones and coffee in the cafe, coming back to our base in Hokitika. If you are planning to dine in Hokitika then I would advise you book on arrival if you are spending a couple of days, if just overnight then google and book before you arrive, at evening dinner you are in competition with bus tours.

Nice town with some interesting information and artwork.
Nice town with some interesting information and artwork. Good location for visiting nearby places of interest, such as Ross (fantastic museum and hotel bar here) and the beautiful Lake Kaniere. Stayed only two nights, could have easily stayed four or five.

Hokitika is a welcoming town with a fascinating history set in a stunning landscape. It's a great base from which to explore the surrounding area - Lake Kaniere, the Hokitika Gorge, Lake Mahinapua, the Treetops walk and the gold town of Ross.

Lovely quirky beach town.
Lovely quirky beach town. So many walks and adventures on your doorstep. Really central for exploring the West Coast. Free activities close by, loved the glow worm cave and chips while watching the sunset. Very chilled, cool place. We were very lucky it didn’t rain while we were there and we miraculously missed the sandflies. Make sure you take spray for sandflies! If you like long walks then this is the place to go for some spectacular scenery.

Hokitika is nice and central to activity up and down the west coast, and there are lots of things to see and do. We had dinner at Stumpers and initially we thought the prices seemed high, but the food portions were huge and so tasty I would definitely go back. We did the Glacier helicopter ride in Franz Josef and The Shantytown and Monteith Brewery in Greymouth. We also visited the gorge but that was all we had time for. Loads of walks and other sites to see we just didn't have time.

Hokitika bills itself as a cool little town and it is true.
Hokitika bills itself as a cool little town and it is true. There are lots of things to do. The beach is a major attraction with a long area to walk and good sunset views. The town has some lovely greenstone shops and artisans. I always buy something when I'm in Hokitika. There are short walks, Hokitika Gorge and Lake Kaniere nearby.
Clean, comfortable B&B with very welcoming hosts. Comfortable bedroom with shared sitting area for TV or reading. Excellent breakfast. A bonus was meeting other vacationers and enjoying breakfast with other guests and our hosts. After being on the road and in hotels, it was an excellent opportunity to relax and talk about New Zealand with local residents in the comfort of their home.
Really lovely, clean and fresh modern hotel. It felt like an high end hotel. The receptionist Michael was really nice and gave us a welcomed feeling. It had a super location, at the sea and near all (super)markets and the National Kiwi center. Room was clean and nice, looked fresh and modern.
beachfront king villas were pleasantly roomy, quiet, private, well-equipped and comfortable
great location - on the edge of town but close to Hokitika and glow worm dell was super easy to visit
loved listening to the surf and watching the sunset
would definitely stay again
Fabulous Camping Ground! So well thought out! We stayed in a Cabin this time which suited our purpose perfectly - We will definitely stay again either in our Caravan or happily in the Cabins again. Highly recommended - Amazing Playground and little Bike Track if you have Kids
We were really surprised by this nice, little place. The room was a bit small, but very cozy and there is a bar in front of the hotel, which seems to attract the locals and serves pretty good food. There's also a small shared kitchen that you can use.
We loved everything, friendly host, location, rooms where so much more then expected, like a 5 Star hotel and very accommodating right down to dietary requirements, very, very impressed and glad we booked. Highly recommend, thank you very much.
Very welcoming property owners, our Booking.com reservation didn’t come through but they where fabulous. Short walk to the beach, restaurants etc. A lot of thought has gone into this property, a must stay in Hokitika.
Beautiful property right on the beach front, pet friendly was a bonus, lovely walks along the beach and stunning sunsets!!! Great walks to do in Hokitika and a bonus the glow worms are just across the road
The staff was very approachable. There was a mix-up with the room, but they sorted it out quickly. The hotel was close to everything, the beach, stores and supermarket. The room was well equipped.
Great location! We loved the Glow Worm Dell, Tunnel Terrace Walk, and the Hokitika Gorge. They were spectacular and super easy to access from this home. The place was comfortable and very clean.
Located right at the Hokitika beach! Enjoyed the amazing ocean view just through the room slider window. Room is neat and
tidy. Watching sunset at the balcony is a fab. bonus!
We've stayed there once before & found it very convenient for an overnight stay. Bella Vista motels are usually very reliable with standard facilities.
