Overall NYC is expensive. More so after the pandemic.
Overall NYC is expensive. More so after the pandemic. A meal at a place like Chipotle is between 18 - 20 dollars with a cola and tips. A meal at a restaurant with one beer or wine and one dish of main course is 40 dollars with tips. Public transportation is good but a bit confusing.
New York has changed a lot since I was here in 2008. Some parts of the city are quite unclean and lots of homeless people.
Three days is good for NYC visit if planned well.

The theater district provided all the entertainment we were looking for and it felt safe. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. The Top of the Rock provided a phenomenal view. MOMA was where we had a great lunch at the Terrace Cafe (thank you Frances) and the gift shop at the New York Library was delightful.

The city is amazing, it has everything for anyone whether it is shopping, museums, Broadway shows, funky restaurants and the parks, whether it is Central Park or the small pocket parks throughout Manhattan. I love NYC!

It took a real effort to find a decent meal.
It took a real effort to find a decent meal. Plenty of burger, kebab, pizza, ice cream stands etc. Sights were good, public transport good. Friendly place. Little disappointed with the night life, it seemed to be an endless sucsession of junk food places and the very occassional crowded bar in Times Square area.

I went to NYC for the Half Marathon race on 3/17.
I went to NYC for the Half Marathon race on 3/17. Originally, planned to arrive on 3/15 and stay until 3/18; however, our plans changed due to work and school schedules. So, we only stayed over 1 night. Even so, we had time to walk and enjoy the city and, of course, had terrific food.
The best bed I've ever slept in (reclining bed, hello!) and good room facilities - good shower and liked the mood lighting behind the TV that you can change colour. For me, the location is perfect - easy walk to Times Square and nearby Penn Station makes getting to/from Newark, and around the city easy. The staff were all super friendly and helpful too! Overall would definitely stay again as for Manhattan, the location and quality of the room make this hotel definite good value in this expensive city.
The main and biggest asset of this place is its location. For a very reasonable price you can stay in the heart of Manhattan. You can get on foot in only 15 minutes to Madison Square Garden, 20 minutes to Times Square and 25 minutes to Empire State Building. There's also a big communication hub nearby (train + metro) - the Pennsylvania Station, where you're most likely to end up when arriving from JFK. Hotel staff is very helpful, so if you need anything don't be afraid to ask them.
I have stayed already in several hotels in NYC through the years and I can easily say that this one is the best.. not only the cheapest regarding the price.. but the most confortable (with modern design and furniture) very clean (never saw this level of cleanliness in NYC) and well located. Staff is very nice (we asked for a room on top floors and got it) and always ready to assist (not the case in most Manhattan), spacious room, a big gym.. we had the best time!
Cheap price compared with hotel
Amazing location - near of empire state building, flatiron, Penn Station, The Edge, Times Square..
Lot of bathrooms - you will probably find unoccupied
Doors are pincoded - both rooms and main doors so you will feel safe
Subway is near
Private room - its advantage when we consider this is hostel, not hotel.
Warm water
Drink machines in kitchen
2 fridges in kitchen
- Great location (28th street) between two subway stations - took about 5-10 minutes by subway to get to Times Square.
- Staff were really friendly and helpful.
- Room was a good size and was very comfortable.
- Excellent views of one world tower from the roof top terrace.
- The price was excellent. When we booked it was significantly cheaper than other hotels we looked at in Manhattan.
This hotel was in a great location! Not a long walk from the subway or Times Square. The room was a little small, but honestly, all rooms in New York City are small at the price we paid. The grab-and-go breakfast was great, the staff was friendly and I felt the Covid precautions were great, masks in public spaces, hand sanitizer everywhere!
This hotel is well located in Midtown Manhattan, close to the E Subway line. It is easy walking distance to many of NY city sights including St. Patricks Cathedral, Rockefeller Centre, Times Square. The room was spacious with 2 good sized double beds, ideal for a family of four. Staff were very friendly and hotel was very clean.
The King size room was of a great size. especially given this is Manhattan.
The beds were super comfortable.
the location of this hotel is fabulous as it is on Times Square
the hotel provided water in the rooms which felt great
the breakfast is very good especially if you sit in the restaurant instead of the Grab and Go
My 3rd time staying here. Once again the best place I've stayed & I've stayed in "MAYBE" New York City Hotels (as a BORN & RAISED New Yorker.) The front desk staff is by far the best of any place I've stayed. Rooms & Hotel are very clean. The Door Men are SUPER cool & give you the feeling you've known them for years!!
The hotel was in a really good location. Close to 3 subway stations what take you into Times Square and over to Brooklyn. Plenty of restaurants adorn the hotel. Easy access to the airport. Staff were really friendly and nice. Within walking distance of lower manhattan and Brooklyn bridge
The Royal Hotel, excellent, fantastic, the holes that very accommodating. I was well welcome, very clean, very elegant. I felt like I was in Japan at the new Ohtani hotel in Tokyo. I will continue to come to this hotel I have my time peace enjoyment in New York City.
The staff were friendly, but not overly so. It’s one of the cleanest hotels I’ve been in in New York City and yet the price was reasonable. The location was fantastic. I did pay the extra amount for the city view and that was a nice luxury. I highly recommend it.
This was one of the best hotels that I have stayed at in New York city. I have been recommending it to all my friends and I will be coming back to this hotel when I go to the city. The location was perfect and the staff were so friendly and helpful.
We love this hotel. This is the second time we’ve stayed and I would definitely stay again the next time I’m in New York City. The location is fabulous, the rooms are clean, and I just love the restaurants and everything about the area.
- hotel is just a few minutes walk from the Times Square
- amazing breakfast, it is the best open buffet breakfast in New York
- rooms are very clean
- very helful and supportive staff at the reseption (special thamks to Ariel)
The Palace/Towers is arguably the best located hotel in Midtown Manhattan. Service all around is outstanding. A little pricey, but NYC as a whole is pricey. Great place to stay if visiting New York City.
The James Hotel has become "go to and stay hotel" in New York City. The location is perfect. The staff is professional. The suite option is superb. See you again soon.
