FAQs about hotels in New Orleans

Getting its Rhythm Back

The home of jazz, intriguing New Orleans evokes images of Louis Armstrong, wrought-iron balconies and mouth-watering Cajun cuisine. Louisiana’s largest city, in the heart of the Deep South, the ‘Big Easy’ is being regenerated in the wake of devastating hurricane Katrina.

One area relatively unscathed was Bourbon Street – where jazz saxophones ring out of traditional bars interspersed by others offering more colourful nightlife. There are several New Orleans hotels near Bourbon Street, spread around the French Quarter with its distinctive Creole architecture.

To the south is Jackson Square, dominated by the Disney-esque St Louis Cathedral. Horses and carts wait patiently by the square, and locals set up their stools and start playing catchy tunes. Just behind is the legendary Mississippi River whose waters are still plied by paddle steamers.

From the river you get great views of the CBD skyscrapers and beside them is the huge Louisiana Superdome sports venue. Booking.com has several hotels near the Superdome, including some on Canal Street – a historic road where streetcars and the famous New Orleans Mardi Gras carnival pass down.

In the northern suburbs is New Orleans City Park, one of the oldest US parks and larger than NYC’s Central Park. Waterways lining it flow into large Lake Pontchartrain bordered by a bayou – the typical wetlands of the state.

New Orleans is a city with a rich story. There are many things to see and experience. Food is great and you have many choices. Very easy to get around, as in any big city, you need to be aware of your surroundings. Also, I found out to be very inclusive and diverse. I've been twice for work. I'm looking forward to visit again for vacation.

I was excited to visit New Orleans but the city blew my expectations out of the water. It has everything - history, culture, incredible food, unmatched nightlife, live music. EVERYTHING! Every single shop we entered and tour we went on were memorable. It's also a blast just to walk around and see what you find.

    Architecture. Culture. Walkable.

Architecture. Culture. Walkable. Ate 3X at Italian Barrel which was very good. Loved their Strawberry Salad. Saw a live street performance by the "Queen of New Orleans". Beautiful Cathedral-Basilica. Great costumes especially since we were there Easter Weekend. Every culture has their version of Easter finery but NOLA's is different!

Bourbon street is full of homeless people, sleeping in the streets, urinating and defecating on the sidewalk. If you like marijuana, people are smoking it and buying it in the street and you get high just walking on bourbon Street. The rest of New Orleans is beautiful the garden area downtown, Canal St., Mississippi, river and especially the New Orleans Mardi Gras museum was wonderful

We really enjoyed all the music in New Orleans.

We really enjoyed all the music in New Orleans. That was the highlight of our trip. We didn't do a lot of tours because everything was so expensive. 5 days instead of 7 days would have been enough.

The property was clean and well maintained. only 15-20 minutes from the French Quarter. Free parking with well lit parking area. Badge access to main entrance. Staff was very nice and attentive, especially Wanda. Breakfast was a step above a continental breakfast. Staff was always around cleaning up. A quarter of a mile from I-10. A couple of nice restaurants nearby especially New Orleans Burgers and Seafood. The suite was nice with the beds being very comfortable and the walls were thick enough to not hear our neighbors.

Going to a city like New Orleans we didn't want to stay in a Marriot or a Hilton. While there is nothing wrong with those hotels, we wanted something with a little more New Orleans "flavor" and we got that at the St. James. The hotel was a little understaffed (a problem facing a lot of businesses!), but the staff that was there was very friendly, helpful and professional. And the location of the hotel between the French Quarter and the Garden District was perfect for us. Overall, it was a wonderful place to stay.

(Senate) Front of house service was exceptional! His knowledge of New Orleans French Quarter was on point. My wife and I found his tips and recommendations extremely helpful during our stay while we were on holidays from Australia in September. If only more front of house managers were like him. The property was tidy and felt very welcoming. The cleanliness of our room was very pleasant. The outdoor garden area is a great addition to be able to unwind after spending a busy day on the streets of New Orleans.

The Balcony Guest House is the PERFECT place to stay in New Orleans. Between the very authentic and full of nice bars and delicious restaurants Bywater and Faubourg Marigny neighborhoods, very close from the French Quarter, the Mississipi river, Treme... It was quiet but we had everything we needed once in the street. It is very easy to check-in/check-out. You are totally autonomous but the staff can be as well really available if needed. I highly recommand !

Amazing mattresses and the pillows are awesome...very comfy sleep! The location is great because it's on the fringe of the French Quarter -- we walked there and back -- and a quick cab ride to Garden District. Great restaurants are nearby (walking distance) as well. Love their Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwich tradition everyday between 4PM - 5PM. Charming and Old World hotel. When you walk in the lobby, it feels like you're in a European grand hotel.

Beautiful hotel - the decor and furnishings are very tasteful! We really liked the location of this hotel, it's only a short walk to the French Quarter and that means you don't have to deal with outside crowd noise for the price of a 5 minute stroll. It's also the right side of the FQ to get to the Garden District. The quality of the breakfast was very good indeed. The staff were helpful and friendly when we spoke to them in-person.

The style of the house was exquisite, clean and very authentic for New Orleans. The price is amazing for the accommodation. The House Lady was incredibly inviting and friendly. Great location to visit everything in the NOLA area. Our first visit to the USA for a 14 day road trip (New Orleans-Atlanta-Nashville-Memphis- New Orleans) and this was by far the best hotel we stayed in out of the 6 hotels, and probably the cheapest.

I liked the location on Canal Street. The trolley ran right in front which was nice for a quick trip down Canal to several different places we needed to go. It was close to everything we wanted to see. The French Quarter was close but not to close which was great. The room was big, clean and very comfortable. The elevator was small which was nice. We only had one person ride with us. The hotel and rooms were very pretty.

It was smack bang in the heart of New Orleans in the French quarter, and right next to that crazy fun street that is bourbon street, but surprisingly it’s a relatively quite stay considering how close it was. This is my second time visiting New Orleans and before I said about 15 minute walk away from this location, and I’d come back to the Wyndham in a heart beat, was an awesome stay, and highly recommended.

The hotel was located right at one end of Bourbon Street in the French Quarter. My wife and I were visiting New Orleans for the first time and this hotel was in the perfect spot for us as tourists. It was also close to Canal Street where we could catch a tram/street car to other areas. The staff were super friendly and helpful and the entire hotel was immaculately clean.

Location is perfect for those who want to explore the French Quarter. The hotel is located on Bourbon street - the heart of the area, but in our room there was no slightest sign of noise from the outside. It is also located literally steps away from the most of good restaurants and caffees and Jackson Square and ferry. Staff is very friendly. Pool is amazing in warm days.

The hotel was located in the heart of the French quarter within walking distance to Bourbon and Royal street and the Ruby Slipper Cafe. We enjoyed taking a dip in the pool (we traveled in the middle of August!) after exploring New Orleans all day. The front desk staff was spectacular. Maurice was always helping us with the stroller and any questions we had.

Staff excellent, very helpful. Hotel is a short walk from French Quarter and convention area, where my events were. Quiet room, good facility for getting work done in room, convenient parking just across street. This is a superb hotel for someone who wants access to all that New Orleans has but does not want to be right in the middle of it.

This was my second stay at Maison Dupuy. The location is perfect; easy to walk to anything in the French Quarter but on a quiet street. It's an older hotel with character which I love. The courtyard/pool area is really nice. I would absolutely stay here again.
