We drove north from Durango on The Million Dollar Highway and stopped in Ouray. We were there for only one night but I would like to have been able to do some hiking nearby. We drove west to Telluride the day after Ouray. If you are interested in high end shopping and more commercialism, it was great, but Ouray is definitely more our type of town!

Beautiful cute town in the mountains with one main street and maybe couple more. There are no big stores, but there are places to shop and a lots of restaurants. There are amazing mountains around where you can go for a walk and hot springs to soak. I definitely recommend visiting the waterfall at Box Cañon Falls Park.

A very unique town nestled in the mountains.
A very unique town nestled in the mountains. You can feel the heritage of a long gone mining town. Beautiful old buildings and very nice people. Harleys and Jeeps are all up and down Main Street. Unless you are going into the mountains to enjoy the great outdoor a day will suffice.
Spectacular mountain scenery, excellent classical music, average restaurants, generally cordial service people. Take a jeep trip with the San Juan group, it's worth every penny. Excellent general store for a small town. Fun to walk and probably excellent hiking. Pleasant climate. Be careful not to hit the deer when driving.

Ouray is following other mountain towns in trying to be like Telluride. Off-roading is what keeps the town going, which is great if you're into it. Some good hikes. Definitely overdoing expectations for tipping. Will only be back for day trips.
This was a wonderful hotel. Located in the center of town, we could walk everywhere. It was clean, shower/tub wonderful. Bed so comfy I didn’t want to leave it. Micro, fridge, coffee in room. View. Doesn’t matter where you are in Ouray, there’s a view. Quiet, except for some little kids running around. AC (we’re from Flagstaff, so was warm to us in the evening), and heater, if needed.
The instructions received from the hotel before check-in are clear. Upon arrival the staff was very welcoming and walked us through the details and the property.
Got pleasantly surprised by them having continental breakfast and there were enough options. The room was clean and ready by the check in time, the bed was very comfortable
Also they have reserved places for outside parking.
The mineral hot springs were so rejuvenating. We sat under the stars and became more relaxed than we ever have been before while surrounded by pine trees and mountains. The lobby staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel room provided robes and extra cushy towels for the hot springs, as well as a pleasant alpine ambiance. The beds were comfortable and everything was clean.
I liked the wooden floors for the room. I found the room to be very clean. The staff were friendly. They had a nice detailed manual in the room with menus of local restaurants and room instructions. The bedding was comfortable, the internet and tv worked fine. I heard no noise from the road and slept well. I would recommend staying here if you visit Ouray.
Black Bear was very homey and welcoming. Tom is helpful and fun to talk with. Cyndi treats you to delicious breakfasts . There were special treats at Happy Hour and hot drinks always available. I loved being just walking distance to Main Street Ouray and a block from the river where a bench lets you sit and enjoy nature.
This is an older hotel in Ouray, but is being upgraded and in the process of being well restored. We had a kitchenette which was fun in the small town of Ouray. The hotel is near the river and Ouray itself is one of the SPECTACULAR places to visit in the Rockies. The drive from Ouray to Silverton is beyond amazing!
We stayed in the Inn/hotel and loved it! The staff were over the top friendly and helpful, we loved the ease of checking in and out, and the whole place had a great vibe. It was just enough distance from town to feel a little more isolated but close enough to not feel an ounce of inconvenience.
staff was wonderful, rooms are very large and clean. beds were very comfortable. within walking distance to everything in Ouray. the river running behind the property was very pleasant. the hotel even being right on the water had no smells are mold, and that’s very rare!
Retro motel tucked away on a side street. Walkable to anywhere in Ouray. The rooms are super clean and beds are comfortable! The common area is a great spot to have coffee and meet fellow guests. Pretty grounds and convenient parking. Friendliest innkeepers around!
The bed and the location are the best part of this hotel. Appreciate the thoughtfulness of putting packed breakfast in the refrigerator. The room is clean and so is the bathroom.
Comfortable and well-equipped room with plenty of great shops and restaurants nearby, as well as a choice of hot springs to visit! Very friendly and helpful host!
