Exploring Los Angeles, the place where movies are made, you feel like you’re in a dream. Santa Monica Pier is the end point of the fabled Route 66, while just south is bohemian Venice Beach, lined by tall, swaying palms. Go slightly inland from the boardwalk to catch a glimpse of the canals that earned the area its name.
Head north to the golden beach and stunning scenery of Malibu and see why movie stars over the decades have settled here. Also popular with the rich and famous are Bel Air and Beverly Hills, home to exclusive Rodeo Drive.
And the reason for all this glitz and glamour? Hollywood, of course! Sitting high on a hill, the iconic sign is visible for miles around, while below the gold stars on Hollywood Boulevard immortalize celebrities of past and present. Be there on premiere night to see them grace the red carpet of Grauman’s Chinese Theater.
Over the hill is Universal Studios, with behind-the-scenes tours as well as rides. Next door are the Warner Brothers Studios, and Paramount Studios are closer to Downtown LA.
Whether you decide to live like a star in a luxury LA hotel or choose a cheap motel through Booking.com, it’s worth renting a car to get around this sprawling city and out to Los Angeles Airport (LAX).

Have been to LA/Hollywood area (from San Diego) many times and aside from the traffic always experienced a good stay. The weather is usually great - uh, Southern CA! Hollywood Blvd. has been cleaned up quite a bit over the past year and the night life seems to have come back popping with theaters, and bars, and folks out just strolling by many of the sidewalk performers outside some of the most popular spots.

It is really perfect - you have plenty of space to relax and enjoy yourself while at the house, including two parking spaces right outside your door. It is within walking distance to so many things - it is so convenient.
I highly recommend.

Didn't really see much more than DTLA and Hollywood so can't really comment. Downtown is definitely worth visiting but you maybe don't get a full experience. The walk up to the Hollywood sign from the Observatory is definitely a must-do

No downtown vibe- best thing was the Broad museum and the statues outside the staples center. too much traffic everywhere- mostly single person in each car. no one uses public transport. Would be nice to hike up to the observatory if you had time.

I think most travellers plan their stay in LA for too long.
I think most travellers plan their stay in LA for too long. When you have a car you can see most if not all of the hightlights within a day a three. Landmarks like the Hollywood sign, Walk of fame, Santa Monica and Venice beach can all be done within a day. Add another day to see Beverly Hills, one or two museums and a visit to Koreatown and Thaitown for good food and you find yourself wondering what to do next. Kids might like to spend a day at either Disney or Universal, but doing them both is too much.
For shopping visit the nearby Cabazon Outlets. Califorina has so much more to offer than just the cities. A visit to the national parks gives a way more memorable experience. Not to say that you should skip LA, but know there is more.

I lived in Los Angeles for over 8 years.
I lived in Los Angeles for over 8 years. Circumstances beyond my control required me to move away recently but I had a great time visiting this time around as a tourist. Look forward to visiting again soon.
there is a coffee bar and drink bar in the lobby of Moxy, and you can order some special breakfast too. Their services are great and friendly. Moxy Hotel is located in a really great area, and it takes about 17 minutes to get the central LA, downtown Los Angeles. There are some museums, stadiums and entertainment facilities around Moxy Hotel too. I like the Hotel's design, location and the top restaurant of the building. If you are lucky, you can book a corner room and you can see the whole view of downtown LA. Very modern hotel.
After reading reviews you really would think this place was in a horrible area and that's far from the truth. You do have to pass by a lot..a lot of homeless people, it's Los Angeles downtown, not hollywood but once you get in the area of the hotel there a many blocks where they have kept it clean (literally power wash the side walks every morning) and are building it up. There's a convenient store right downstairs, many restaurants and shops walking distance. There's also a little shopping mall "Little Tokyo".
Hotel and room were very clean, bed and pillows very comfortable. It's close enough to downtown L.A. without paying L.A. prices. We attended a concert near the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, and it was about a 20-25 minute Uber/Lyft ride to and from the concert. All the staff was excellent, from the front desk to the wait/bar staff to the morning breakfast buffet. Great job! Scrambled eggs, ham, sausage, toast or bagel, some fresh fruit, coffee, O.J. or apple juice, very satisfying to start your day.
Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles is an outstanding establishment. Provided me with excellent customer service and support. Friendly atmosphere and staff was very professional and supportive with all request. Thanks for the genuine support in providing me with a great experience. I would like to recognize De’Kwon
Dorian, Brandon (Valet Parking) and Nashua who ensured I was taking care of the moment I checked into the hotel. Overall, very satisfied with the services. Will visit again Thank You.
Staff was great. Very courteous and willing to guide in the city. Security in the hotel. We felt save in the area. Unfortunately everyplace in Los Angeles has homeless walking around (even beverly hills) because they seem to be approved to travel via bus and metro free... So... Having a safe place to rest was great. Bed was great.. A/C worked... All good. I would stay again definitely. Close to a metro station and the Hollywood main attraction walk of fame
clean hotel within a vibrant yet quiet cultural downtown neighborhood, 20 mins walking distance to the interesting little tokyo district as well as to the beautiful union station and the enhanced airport shuttle, some longer walking distance to the next subway station for other downtown areas, hollywood, venice beach etc. (all of them not really worth to see), could check in way earlier than officially possible, best value for overpriced los angeles.
the hotel was in a perfect spot close to a lot of food choices and near by stores. inside the hotel we had a bar downstairs and upstairs rooftop bar which had amazing views. the best part was the late checkout option. when you had a fun night till 7 am you really just want to sleep in. for being downtown I couldn’t hear much of the noice of LOS ANGELES which was good for my sleep. my stay at this location was top tier! I’ll stay again
So this wasn’t exactly a Business owned hostel it was a home with rooms and beds. More like a shared AirBnB.
What I liked about it was the location wasn’t too bad, it’s not exactly in a nice area but it is close to downtown Los Angeles. The other guests were polite and respectful but again this is more like a shared Airbnb so no “community vibe”.
The host is not on location but responded any time I needed anything.
Probably the most convenient hotel to Union Station. We used the metro to get around a lot so the location could not have been better. Huge Mexican market right across the street, and close to Chinatown also. Very walkable area. Hotel itself was nice, felt pretty clean and safe. It's not the Waldorf but for the price you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal in Downtown LA. Would stay again.
it was in such a safe area and walkable to lots of super nice bars and restaurants! if you want to head into the Hollywood walk of fame, it’s just a short cab ride away. get the LYFT app and it’ll be super cheap. the room was really beautiful and comfortable. all the staff were lovely. really great stay! so great we ended up coming back half way through our trip for a quick stop off in LA.
Excellent cost-benefit report at a typical standard found in the Best Western hotels chain. Free parking, breakfast included, and several amenities in the room. If you count their value (i.e., for a family of four members), you end up with one of the cheapest accommodations in LA at Best Western standards (i.e., cleanliness, etc).
Received a Great room! Being a older Hotel, I was afraid of stuff creaking and making noises. Luckily I had none of those experiences. Hotel is very well maintained, great amenities, and of course almost nothing beats the Location. Overall, amazing value and definitely one of the best hotels in Downtown Los Angeles for its price.
Shantal is really the best hotel staff ever! She is very polite and friendly when I check in. She also tried to solve my problems when I stayed in this hotel. I really appreciated the excellent service Shantal provided. The room is clean and cozy. I have a nice memory of staying in Los Angeles.
Great place!!!! Clean rooms, smelled great and amazing staff. Had a soap dispenser at sink. Had shampoo with conditioner and Body wash dispenser in bath/shower. This is our 5th night staying in hotels from Texas to California, this was the best hotel!!!
Nice location near Santa Monica pier at a cheaper price than other hotels. It was recently painted and rooms were bigger than some of the hotels on the area.
The also have an small snack kind breakfast and accept cash payments which could be useful.
Good quality hotel , nice & clean. 1.5 miles from santa monica pier area so need to have car or use Lyft but still cheaper to stay here and pay for taxis than stay nearer pier area. Friendly staff and free basic breakfast. Comfy queen size beds
Great hotel, always clean and very friendly staff. Location is 2 minutes from the walk of fame and Hollywood bowl but location isn’t the best. Wouldn’t stay in that area again- alot of homeless and didn’t feel safe.
The hotel is very well located near the Thai area of Los Angeles. It is very quiet and it has a really nice parking spot.
The room was comfortable and it had a very nice fridge.
