Santo Domingo is not a heavily-toursited area of Ecuador. While it's certainly not the prettiest city in Ecuador, if you are looking for an experience that is more off-the-beaten-path, then you might well enjoy exploring Santo Domingo. I would recommend visiting the local native tribe, the Taschilas, for a traditional Ecuadorian experience. The countryside around Santo Domingo is quite beautiful.

The room ( one of the expensive ones) had not been updated in Approx 30 years and it looked like a bad handyman built it. The cleanliness was really bad. Basically the whole place needs a major renovation or to be bulldozed and rebuilt. Steak at dinner was ok. Breakfast sub standard. People working there friendly and wanted to please. If this is the best hotel in town I would hate to see the worst.

The front desk person was excellent, met me at the door and insisted on carrying my bag. If you can avoid Santo Domingo, I would. I was out exploring, I went so you don't have to. There are no good restaurants in walking distance that I could find. That's not the hotel's fault. AC worked well. Hot water in the shower was good.squiresUnited States
