Portorož is the most popular beach resort on Slovenia’s small but undulating coastline. It was first developed as a health resort and several spas remain. The largest is the Terme & Wellness LifeClass Portorož, offering treatments using local products such as salt pan mud, seawater and thermal mineral water.
The huge complex is surrounded by some of the 4 and 5-star hotels available on Booking.com. Nearby is the Hotel Kempinski Palace, a historic property built in 1910 as a retreat for Austro-Hungarian officials. Other Portorož accommodation options include guest houses with pools and beachfront apartments.
The beaches are of course why most people come. The main, sandy beach is awash with colourful parasols in summer, while offshore watersports include diving and water skiing. Boat trips from the marina sail along the coast and even to Venice and Trieste in Italy.
As the temperature cools down, the nightlife heats up as people start hitting the bars and clubs. Several casinos also provide another way to spend some time…and money, and there are also relaxed restaurants where you can enjoy the sunset.
Portorož Airport is just south of the city and in the opposite direction is Piran whose Venetian old town spread over a promontory provides a more cultural offering.
Very nice swimming pools with sea and termal water.
Very nice swimming pools with sea and termal water.
Our food was delicious, especially sea food. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms we stayed in were very neat and tidy.
Although there were not enough parking spaces, the staff tried very hard to provide us with payable parking.

Piran and Portoroz - two very nice places are actually connected to each other... restaurant, walking paths, cyklo paths...everything nice and clean. Beaches are small and sea was nice and clean... we were there out of season (end Sept) and will definitely come next year out of high season again!

A very bad experience, from everything that can be said about a hotel that does not respect itself.
We booked a Mosim room, paid in advance and received "another product",
Although there was a lack of reference, and the answer was
"Sorry. Although you did not receive the room you paid for and booked a month ago,
The hotel is full and you are welcome to stay in the room even though it is bad and not suitable for the reservation. Unprofessionalism, indifference and disdain even though they realized they were wrong,
And they didn't try to solve the problem they had. We paid full price, and we did not receive the product (a room that did not match our wishes and conditions) and we did not even receive a refund for the difference between the room we ordered and the room we received.

A beautiful resort- we went in September.
A beautiful resort- we went in September. An unknown gem to British tourists. I imagine too crowded in main summer months. The area is stunning- short bus ride to Piran- which is beautiful and interesting. Swimming in the Adriatic is wonderful.

beautiful and vibrant riviera with a charming atmosphere.
beautiful and vibrant riviera with a charming atmosphere. Lots of shops and great restaurants. Unfortunately, though, you have to pay for parking (1,5 EUR per hour until 22:00), for this I highly recommend the EasyPark app, which made this duty much easier for me.
As for the beaches, here I was slightly disappointed. There are only city beaches which are not great, or stone beaches under big cliffs. All in all, you have to search and drive around.
We ended up going to Fiesa Beach near Piran, which was relatively pleasant to sit on and the snorkeling was not boring. For example, I even saw a squid here, which I hadn't seen before in Bali.

The beach consists of contrete, with some areas of lawn.
The beach consists of contrete, with some areas of lawn. There is no old part of town, nothing historical. Don't go there, find yourself a place to stay in Piran or Izola. Else, stay in Portoroz in a quiet place, and take the bus (often for free) from Portoroz to Piran. Do NOT use your car to visit Piran or Izola, no parking, no entrance permission with car.
Excellent location. Right in the centre of Portoroz. The room was a great size and the bed extremely comfortable. We slept great each night we were there. The black out curtains helped too.
There is a nice balcony with table and chairs so you can sit out.
The hotel has a pool just across the road near the water's edge. There are plenty of sun loungers and the pool is very large (salt water too!). If you ask reception, they give you cards for towels at the pool.
Breakfast was good with so much choice.
In general, we really liked everything about the hotel and staff. Excellent location (not close to the noise of the bars) but very close to the beach. The garden of the hotel was charming. We enjoyed our breakfast (rich offer of variety of foods), our lunches and dinners on the terrace. The chef is truly excellent. We also liked the size of our room. All in all, I recommend the hotel.
Hotel has extremely spacious rooms. Staff was very communicative and helpful in every situation. Location is just as you can wish to access any part of Portorož in couple of minutes by foot. And the view from the room and restaurant terrase is astonishing. Pool is large, not overcrowded and with sea water, very good in period when sea is not ideal for swimming.
The host is really a kind person and he lives just on the upper level of the building, but he des not disturbs the guests, friendly but polite. Garden is well cared, apartment is clean and close to the see, in a walking distance to both the center of Portoroz and Piran. There is a safe parking spot just in front of the apartment. We liked staying there!
It's the perfect place for family vacation and pets also.
Location is out of noise and very close to entire scrounging and trips to Slovenian, Croatian, and Italian touristic places ...
Beach side, walking, jogging ...
Rent bike is also a good choice...
Super markets very close ...
The owner is more than perfect and reachable all the time.
This holiday was excellent at Grand Hotel Bernardin. We enjoy every moment. The room was luxuriuos and huge, it contained spectacular sea wiew. The staff were extremly helpful and friendly. The breakfast was delicious with wide selection of local and international course. The beach was very close, it was safety and gorgeous.
Location of the Hotel is excellent, it is a good value to book a bit more expensive room to reside on the top. I understand it is not a business hotel but basic coffee/tea services should be available in the room. Modern light controls and internet were really good, no blind spots. Friendly and professional staff.
The hotel is nice on the outside, although it is on a top of a hill, the view of Portorož and the sea is beautiful. Breakfast was OK. Many rooms have a terrace. Air conditioning, refrigerator and TV in the room. Covered parking directly at the hotel.
Great location, across the street from the beautiful beach and sea. The staff was very pleasent and helpful. We enjoyed the food both for breakfast and dinner very much. The facilites were very nice and clean as is the whole hotel.
Great view, sunbeds in garden. Shared seating area. Private parking space and little traffic around. Portorož is mountainous, so walking from the beach area to the hotel is a serious workout
I liked the Kempinski level of service and hospitality.
My special request was delivered as requested.
Kempinski Palace Portoroz is the place to be at the Adriatic cost.
The location of the hotel is good. The breakfast is excellent, with lots of different options. Swimming pools and SPA area is nice. The staff is friendly and polite.
Breakfast was good and varied. The location of the hotel is well placed near their own private beach as well as walking distance from everything else in Portoroz.
Nice location with sea view, near Portoroz. The apartment is very clean and well equipped. Recommended for short or long stays by the beautiful Slovenian seaside.
There is nothing we liked about this hotel. It is a scam!!! This hotel maybe used to be nice 30 years ago but right now it is simply a rip off! DO NOT STAY HERE!
