Portorož is the most popular beach resort on Slovenia’s small but undulating coastline. It was first developed as a health resort and several spas remain. The largest is the Terme & Wellness LifeClass Portorož, offering treatments using local products such as salt pan mud, seawater and thermal mineral water.
The huge complex is surrounded by some of the 4 and 5-star hotels available on Booking.com. Nearby is the Hotel Kempinski Palace, a historic property built in 1910 as a retreat for Austro-Hungarian officials. Other Portorož accommodation options include guest houses with pools and beachfront apartments.
The beaches are of course why most people come. The main, sandy beach is awash with colourful parasols in summer, while offshore watersports include diving and water skiing. Boat trips from the marina sail along the coast and even to Venice and Trieste in Italy.
As the temperature cools down, the nightlife heats up as people start hitting the bars and clubs. Several casinos also provide another way to spend some time…and money, and there are also relaxed restaurants where you can enjoy the sunset.
Portorož Airport is just south of the city and in the opposite direction is Piran whose Venetian old town spread over a promontory provides a more cultural offering.
Very nice swimming pools with sea and termal water.
Very nice swimming pools with sea and termal water.
Our food was delicious, especially sea food. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms we stayed in were very neat and tidy.
Although there were not enough parking spaces, the staff tried very hard to provide us with payable parking.

Piran and Portoroz - two very nice places are actually connected to each other... restaurant, walking paths, cyklo paths...everything nice and clean. Beaches are small and sea was nice and clean... we were there out of season (end Sept) and will definitely come next year out of high season again!

A very bad experience, from everything that can be said about a hotel that does not respect itself.
We booked a Mosim room, paid in advance and received "another product",
Although there was a lack of reference, and the answer was
"Sorry. Although you did not receive the room you paid for and booked a month ago,
The hotel is full and you are welcome to stay in the room even though it is bad and not suitable for the reservation. Unprofessionalism, indifference and disdain even though they realized they were wrong,
And they didn't try to solve the problem they had. We paid full price, and we did not receive the product (a room that did not match our wishes and conditions) and we did not even receive a refund for the difference between the room we ordered and the room we received.

A beautiful resort- we went in September.
A beautiful resort- we went in September. An unknown gem to British tourists. I imagine too crowded in main summer months. The area is stunning- short bus ride to Piran- which is beautiful and interesting. Swimming in the Adriatic is wonderful.

beautiful and vibrant riviera with a charming atmosphere.
beautiful and vibrant riviera with a charming atmosphere. Lots of shops and great restaurants. Unfortunately, though, you have to pay for parking (1,5 EUR per hour until 22:00), for this I highly recommend the EasyPark app, which made this duty much easier for me.
As for the beaches, here I was slightly disappointed. There are only city beaches which are not great, or stone beaches under big cliffs. All in all, you have to search and drive around.
We ended up going to Fiesa Beach near Piran, which was relatively pleasant to sit on and the snorkeling was not boring. For example, I even saw a squid here, which I hadn't seen before in Bali.

The beach consists of contrete, with some areas of lawn.
The beach consists of contrete, with some areas of lawn. There is no old part of town, nothing historical. Don't go there, find yourself a place to stay in Piran or Izola. Else, stay in Portoroz in a quiet place, and take the bus (often for free) from Portoroz to Piran. Do NOT use your car to visit Piran or Izola, no parking, no entrance permission with car.
Biggest asset, if I may say that way, are the people. Polite, nice, professional, top ... staff is exceeding all other aspects of the Hotel ... which btw is on excellent location and old but properly built.
Rooms are big as all other areas of the hotel ... restaurant, lobby, Banquets, Spa, etc. Typical set up of the Hotels built to be "grand" at the time. Old fashion hotel that meets expectations of the people who seek more relaxed, quiet and comfortable holidays.
Surely it's great for the Banquet events, seminars, etc.
This was our 4th stay at Hotel Marko. We love Portorož as well as Piran. This is a very cosy hotel and we would not consider staying anywhere else when visiting.Very nice well kept garden and nice outside restaurant in the summer months. The food is of a very good standard and reasonably priced. The rooms are comfortable and clean.Very friendly staff, especially Alma on reception, although all the staff have a friendly smile on their faces.Look forward to returning in September for another mini break.
we have stayed several times already in the Grand Hotel and just booked our next trip there. The staff is really friendly, the rooms are spacious and the breakfast is also good. the location is fantastic, the parking is perfectly organised with shuttle to the parking at the Marina and we enjoy Meduza beach a lot! all in all, as always, we want to thank the Lifeclass Team for having us and making our holidays a great experience!
The staff was nice and friendly, the bed was comfortable, room was very clean and spacious. It is close to the beach and to the bus stop to Piran (only a few steps from the hotel). Breakfast was very tasty with lots of options.
You can use different spas like Thermal Spa, Sea Water Spa what is a great opportunity. Sauna park is also great, with many option to relax (for extra fee).
Compliments to the staff first and foremost (@Mrs. Ana Katerina). Have received immediate attention and solution when addressing emergency dental problem on the moment of my arrival. Despite modesty, still found it as exemplary professional conduct. Thanks! Room was cool with satisfactory space. So was the hotel and location amidst Portoroz buzz.
Breakfast buffet was lush !
The beautiful hotel itself is a historical buliding which is kind of a simbol of Portoroz. It is located in the heart of the city, very close to the beach. All staff members are kind. If you stay there in the first part of the week, it is super pleasent, however, if you stay for the weekend too, you will feel it crovded (around the pool area, during breakfast, etc.).
I have been staying in this hotel a few times, and most likely will be again. Friendly and helpful stuff; fast check-in and check-out. The rooms are very nicely decorated and just the right size with lots of storage space. Perfectly located between Piran (2km) and Portoroz "Center" (2km), it is therefore convenient for a nice evening/morning stroll.
The hostel is very close to the beach 50m maybe. The airconditioner worked well. The kitchenette is little but it was enough for 3. The young staff was very helpful. Do not wait a 5star hotel. It is a dormitory in the school time :). To have a place to sleep in a comfortable bed, close to the see, close to Portoroz, close to Piran it is PERFECT!
The check in process was efficient and friendly.
The breakfast was plentiful and varied. There was a great choice of food on offer and the service was professional.
The location was an equal distance to Piran and Portoroz and there was a bus service to Piran close to the hotel, along the promenade, although the walk was pleasant on a nice day.
The hotel is located between Portoroz and Piran from a walking distance. The HB food was amazing every day, the staff is really kind. The hotel furniture / design is old but rooms are very clean. Overall we had a great stay, the service (inc fab spa treatments) could get a glory for the high quality they provide. Thank you so much!
Modern and clean flat with everything you need in a beautiful quiet surrounding and close to the landscape park Strunjan, Piran and Portoroz.
Tina and her family are very warmhearted and helpful hosts. We can definitely recommend this place when visiting the coastal area of slovenia.
Great location, across the street from the beautiful beach and sea. The staff was very pleasent and helpful. We enjoyed the food both for breakfast and dinner very much. The facilites were very nice and clean as is the whole hotel.
Incredible views of the marina and hills of Portorož, easy walk to restaurants and beach, hot tub was wonderful, beautiful sunrises, well stocked kitchen, great water pressure - had everything we needed for a relaxing 2 day stay.
Perfect place to stay in Portorož. The view is stunning and the hotel offers everything you need. We got free parking in front of the hotel. Breakfast was so good. And you have few minutes walk to the center.
Great location, wonderful breakfast, clean and spacious room, and great service. The staff was polite and helpful. I enjoyed the stay at Hotel Marko. Great value for money. Would come back again.
I like the fact that the mini bar first round is already included in room price so are the coffee tabs for the coffee machine.
Also it was very nice to have a proper bartender at the hotel bar.
