Currently, other than very specific areas, the vibe is not good. Security, soldiers and police abundant; and, lots of guns visible. Bars on EVERY storefront. Most stores you cannot enter; you ask for what you need and pay through the bars. And, with a curfew in effect, it’s weird to see absolutely empty streets when there are 3.2 million people living in the city! 😳

A beautiful, safe and welcoming city.
A beautiful, safe and welcoming city. People are nice and polite, the prices at restaurants are just fine and the transportation is easy to use and economic. Malecon 2000 was a really nice tour. Also you can find many gastronomic options and delicious dishes. We would definitely back there

It's a nice town!
It's a nice town! It's so nice to walk along the Malecón where you can find some cafes, children´s playground, parks, and the ferriswheel. I appreciate the free (and clean) bathrooms (though you have to pay a few cents for toilet paper - if the dispenser is not running out of it) and free power supplies to recharge your phone all over the place! (bring your charger) I arrived in Guayaquil at around 2 pm on a Friday and left at 7 pm on a Monday, so I had about 4 days, which I think a bit too long. I could have left on Sunday instead. Overall I felt safe but I do take precautions, keep my backpack in front of me, never put it down in public places, etc. El Cerro de Santa Ana is nice. There are only 440 steps to get to the Lighthouse las Peñas, which is cute. You can see some free roaming iguanas at el parque Seminario in front of the Cathedral. It has a small pond full of fish and turtle, some are endangered kinds. It´s quite entertaining. The park is not big though and it´s full of vendors selling stuff. Be careful, do not stand under a tree, you might get ´rained on´ by iguanas perching on a branch above you. I also walked around Malecón Salado but it was deserted (sad). I also visited Isla Santay. A long walk from the city crossing a pedestrian bridge to go over to the island then another 1.7 km boardwalk to arrive to the village. Not much to see there and the boardwalk is in a dire need of repair. There are lots of holes caused by damaged, broken woods so cycling is not recommended. I booked a tour to see bottled nose dolphins but was cancelled due to low number of participants.

I enjoyed my time.
I enjoyed my time. I was only on foot, so there are a few things I may have missed without traveling by car that I will visit next time.
I felt safe walking alone. I enjoyed the live music along the water (the water is not an attraction).

We went for a wedding, so we did not explore Guayaquil as much as we would have liked. We did the city bus tour for $8.00, went to the iguana park, Mall del sol and got on the teleferico Wish we could have gone up the 400 steps!
This location has the best of both worlds.
Take a walk to the left and you will find a modern boulevard with nice restaurants, bars, cafés, and great views of the Guayas river.
Walk to the right, and you will enjoy Las Peñas, the cobblestone street and all the art around. Then you can climb the famous 444 stairs to enjoy some of the best views of Guayaquil.
This hotel will make you feel at home literally, breakfast is great as well as the service. The lap pool is awesome as well for those sunny days.
Thank you.
A unique hotel in the middle of Guayaquil. Everything is special (in a good way) about it: U-shaped, with a very nice pool and rest areas in the middle, just behind the cathedral, desks for working on each floor. The breakfast was excellent! The staff friendly, you can even play board games, snooker or ping pong on the terrace. Oh, last but not least: the best toilet paper I ever saw in Latin America, finally a thick 3-layers paper, and not the cheap super thin one you have to fold 4 time to avoid incidents.
The Luxha is located in a reasonably good area for Guayaquil and has some good eating places within five minutes walking distance. We found the staff absolutely excellent at this hotel, Danielle and Denise on reception have excellent English which was a huge benefit to us having very little Spanish. The girls were hugely helpful and booked us safe taxis for the Malecon and Airport. The hotel has good security and a nice secluded area with a pool and tables.
Great very clean hotel close to airport (so close you could walk). Staff is very helpful. Great breakfast included in the price of the room. aWe stay here whenever we need something close to the airport. This time we had dinner - the food was absolutely AMAZING!!!!!! I had the whitefish which was the best by far! HIGHLY recommend this place! you will not be dissapointed
The staff was great and very accommodating. I used the shuttle service to pick me up at the airport very late, 11:30 pm, and the driver was right on time as I cleared immigration. I also flew out the next day and I was able to use the gym in the afternoon after I checked out and had dinner at the new restaurant on the rooftop of the Wyndham Garden.
I would highly recommend staying with the Hotel Apart Guayaquil Aeropuerto. The staff were exceptional in meeting my needs and assisted in ordering my dinner as well as ensuring that I had a taxi to the airport. The rooms are very nice and clean and it's a very good stay for the price if you are stopping over for a flight out of the airport.
Well maintained old hotel in the middle of town. Guayaquil is not safe but the staff were very careful to point out all the security precautions we should take. We walked around the area and the Malecon but were back at the hotel by 7.30pm. We just stayed overnight to catch our flight as we had been warned about the dangers in Guayaquil
We just stayed one night, returning from the Galapagos Islands. The hotel is just a 10 min drive from the airport, the aiport transfer worked really well. Very spacious room with a nice view over the river. Also very good breakfast. The area around Puerto Santa Ana has a lot of restaurants and is very safe.
The room was very comfortable (bed bed ever at an Ecuador hotel) and the breakfast was to die for. The location could not possibly be more convenient. It is minutes from the airport and directly across the street from the enormous Mall del Sol, with an elevated crosswalk from the hotel over to the mall.
By Ecuador standards this is an exceptional hotel. We were in the second tower, with an ugly view, but it was quiet and very comfortable. The ground floor has many small shops, a park immediately across the street is worth walking in relaxing in, and restaurants are in easy walk nearby. Recommended.
It was the first hotel in Ecuador where I did not wake up at night several times because of the volume of noise. The reason was probably because my room did not have a window. In this case I was grateful for that. First good sleep after 4 weeks!
The location is perfect!
We spent 1 night in Guayaquil on the way to the Galapagos. The Holiday Inn is almost next door to the airport … the shuttle service takes less than 5 minutes. Convenient location for a layover. Nice pool area. Good on-site restaurant
The house has a very good environment. The manager is very friendly. There are supermarkets and restaurants nearby. It is very convenient. I am very satisfied with this stay. I will stay here next time I go to Guayaquil.
I spent two days in Guayaquil. The hotel is close to the airport and a shuttle was waiting for me at the exit of the airport. Every thing was fine including the foods at the hotel restaurant , I recommend .
Given current insecurity in Guayaquil, the fact that the hotel is connected to a giant mall is very helpful. You only have to walk across a hall and you have access to restaurants and grocery stores.
Basic but clean hotel and accepted my pets. No elevator so if climbing stairs is difficult for you this may not be the locations for you. Convenient to the airport. Close to mall for meals.
My Flight out of Ecuador was at 11:50pm ( Red Eye Flight ) - I checked out of my 5 Star hotel at 12noon - I just needed a room to spend 6 to 7 hours - A Room with AC and Wifi - I was happy
