Paramaribo needs a lot of renovation and there are some suspicious characters in some places at night, but that being said, it is a fascinating and unique place and worth seeing. The fort, the markets, the riverfront, the great food, the cathedral, the synagogue and the palm garden are all worthwhile.

It was a very interesting place with evidence of its multicultural mix of population. Saw lots of Indian and Chinese owned businesses. Didn't see much businesses from other cultures. Saw many monuments of historical significance. Loved the architecture of the buildings. Very disappointed to see so many Casinos in the City with such a small population.

Paramaribo is a safe place, however, when we arrived we were highly prevented about thieves on the street, gangsters etc... people are friendly and attentive, always helpful and ready to provide useful information. tourism is not well developed, however, there are some tourist agencies which organise some tours to jungles and to the closest neighbourhoods... call to Orange, Zuz&zo ... they speak good English. we were in June there so the season of heavy reines started and you should be aware that half of the day you are wet. the rein is warm so you can easily forget a raincoat, but don't forget dry clothes) we didn't have many chances to see animals, however, our guides did their best to find them. so, turtles ponding eggs, dolphins in the river and monkeys in the trees you will see for sure) kitchen - I a consequence of multicultural crossroads - so you eat well, even veggie meals are not a pb to find. the country still is suffering from a low economic level, people are poor, streets, river banks, market places are dirty... but they do a lot of affords to show their best

Paramaribo was nice.
Paramaribo was nice. Not very easy to get around when trying to go shopping and didn't feel like it catered to tourists and very expensive for shopping. They did not take any international credit cards nor did the bank or cambios accept any Guyanese currency for exchange so our spending became limited with the limited USD cash we had.

Very safe for I did not feel threatened, however do not like seeing people asking for money though they do not pester you.
People are friendly and helpful when giving directions, and many know English if you cannot speak Dutch.
But it is important to acquire a street map to find your own way around and get used to the names of streets when locals give directions to find places.

For a small city, there's plenty to see in Paramaribo to keep you busy for a few days at the start or end of your trip (or between excursions). The Waka Pasi makes for great people watching at night, and there are great colonial and modern buildings around the city center. Highly recommend using one afternoon to take a sunset dolphin tour.
Jacana has a really pretty garden, and our room was spacious, with a patio that opened right into the courtyard and pool area. The staff was friendly, the appetizers are tasty, and the breakfast buffet has a lot of variety.
This place seems to be popular with local families for birthdays, which created a fun atmosphere around the pool.
If we come back to Suriname, we would consider staying at Jacana again for a day or two at the end of our trip.
Pavema has a great location near the city center and has a breakfast/lunchroom and supermarket within couple minutes walking distance. The bedrooms and living room all had airconditioning and the pool was very nice and clean. The staff is very friendly and you can ask them anything. One night our bathroom light burned and within 10minutes someone came to repair it, excellent service! Thank you Pavema we would definitely recommend to stay.
Breakfast is sumptuous and the food is good! The staff is good and the facilities in the hotel are good, at least it met my trip demands considering it was an official trip and not luxury.
Jamil, the property manager is responsible and helpful.
Mr Shaika, the owner of the hotel also was very helpful and assisted with getting some medical supplies i had to get, he was kind enough to get it for me.
Gordon, Sanja and Kenneth made our trip to Suriname an incredible experience.. They are ver,y helpful, provide information before the trip as well as during the stay.
The room is very clean, the bed is comfortable.
There is a good supermarketl within a walking distance and a new Chinese snack bar just round the corner.serving excellent wonton.
Couleur locale is the best accommodation in Paramaribo.
I had a large spacious apartment that was clean and in a good location. Very close to a supermarket and only a short distance away from bars and restaurants. You can easily walk to the city centre and to areas with bars and restaurants, but it is advisable to get taxis at night. Fortunately taxis are very cheap. Renault, the owner, is a diamond. I had some problems and he really helped me out.
The hotel is nice, u got everything in the room, including plates, folks, knife, cup etc. The pools is a must. A swimming pool, a hot tub and a cold tub next the big pool, the cold tub(small pool) is more for a lil kids and babies. There's a bar is which nice, breakfast is good. The location is good.
They let me checked in early.
Good place to stay
The hotel is just outside the downtown area, and close to the waterfront and lots of vendors. Rooms have AC and comfortable beds. The small patio outside the lobby is comfortable and has a nice breeze; even though it's the designated smoking area, it did not smell like cigarettes. Check-in was smooth.
i stayed at this guesthouse three times in different rooms! the best thing about this hostel is the location - right in city center, like a 2 min walk from the famous cathedral. easy access to all the main sites. and then building itself was clean, felt safe and secure!
The location is great — right in the center of the city — and the price, for such a location, was fantastic.
The building is somewhat run-down, but actually looks quite interesting on the inside.
The staff were excellent.
You get to stay in a local house, wich for me has more value than staying in a hotel.
Also if you come back from a late tour and you still want to eat something there are instant noodles you can buy or other snacks.
it is a Cozy small sort of a Boutique Hotel where the staff ( specially a a staff member called Rinesh) but all members in general are very kind, and willing to assist you and help you.
The rooms were very clean, staff was friendly and give nice recommendations of things to do and places to eat in Paramaribo. The rooms were comfortable and true quality for money!
This hotel has a very nice pool and pool area, and various nooks throughout the building to read and relax. The room was sober, but very comfortable with AC and a decent shower.
Everything was very well arranged at the Torarica Resort. Staff very friendly, good bar and restaurant. Not much to complain, hotel room was also big and great stay in overall.
I plan to return whenever I'm going to Paramaribo. Great for business travelers like me, or just for a few days. Very cozy and a great little balcony. Recommended!
