The town absorbed tourists so that they weren't intrusive.
The town absorbed tourists so that they weren't intrusive. The most scenic part of the town was more or less off-limits to tourists. While little shops had popped up all over the town, they were mostly tastefully adorned with a painted sign announcing their name and wares. Probably the tourist and the local weighting of the town was even. I've visited Folegandros numerous times over the past 45 years and I've seen it grow gracefully. In the early days, it was a declining farming island as the young people migrated to the big cities. Then, there was only one hotel in the town. But along the line, it resisted the temptation to sell out like some of the other Greek islands have done and it is now a very restful and satisfying place to visit.

This is a great relaxed town with plenty of dining options on 4 squares, plenty of shops and enough to do. You need a swimming pool at your hotel as beaches are too far to walk. Boat trip around island to reach all beaches was great option. Cheap bus to port every half hour or hire scooter or car. Small island can be covered quickly if you have own transport. Beaches was not our priority so if that's your thing choose a hotel on one of the two inhabited coastal spots! Folegandros is a quaint island with donkeys and rural working farms with enough small beaches if you make some effort from Chora.

The cutest little town on the cutest little island!
The cutest little town on the cutest little island! We rented a quad bike to get around which made it so easy to roam the entire island. Hiking up to watch the sunset at the Church of Panagia is a must! Most restaurants and shops close for siesta between 3pm - 5pm, but the whole town comes to life once the sun sets. We had delicious meals at Piatsa, Souvlaki Club, and Araxe. Parasagas has amazing gelato and the drinks at Aquarius were divine!

1. The church at the top of the hill, accessible through the zig-zag path. You get the best views of Chora from that path. You can see how Chora sits on top of a 200-meter cliff.
2. The spectacular views - so barren, so rocky, so wild but so beautiful.
3. Ano Meria. There are some cool cafes to check out and buy some local liqueur. Do not forget to visit the Folk Museum too. It is very interesting.
4. 1790 Wine Cave. Go for a meal there. It is a high-end restaurant but well worth a visit. It is right next door to Antheia's Apartments.
5. Do visit Canelle Bakery! It is quite hidden but have lovely cakes and pastries.
6. Try the local watermelon pie.
7. Check out Agali Beach for its picture-perfect turquoise blue waters.
8. Try the 52% Rakomelo in the town centre in one of the restaurants. You can see it prominently advertised on the garden wall of the restaurant as you walk around. It is served to you ON FIRE!
9. Try the fig gelato in one of the gelato cafes.
10. Visit Fata Morgana hotel and have a cocktail at its bar. There are some cool cocktails there. And a very friendly bartender works there too. You can ask him about the island of Nysiros if you want to stay on a volcanic island.

Lovely, scenic charming town!
Lovely, scenic charming town! Cute pedestrian streets leading to four main squares. Note that many restaurants aren't open at lunch time during May. To Zimaraki was my favourite dinner place - excellent home made pasta, pizza and salads.

You’ll find lots of cute shops and lovely restaurants with delicious, authentic food in Chora. Transport to the port, nearby beaches is straightforward, but be aware that fir most of the good ones you’ll need to take a boat from Angali or Karavostasi (the port). The landscape is classic Cycladic, rocky and beautiful. The locals are the friendliest I’ve ever encountered. Very authentic, plenty of tourists at high season but somehow not a ‘touristy’ island.

The staff, the location, a beautiful setting. The room was lovely very comfortable and a large balcony with table and chairs plus sun lounges. Breakfast was great with a really good choice; cooked plus cereals, bread, cheese pies (delicious) croissants, fruit and yoghurt, cooked meats and cheeses plus lots more. Excellent wine and beer. Free transfers to and from the port. A great pool more sun longes sound the pool. A lovely family run hotel.
Location was beautiful, main village a few minutes away with lots of bars snd restaurants.
The hotel is at a great location, 5 mins walk from Chora which is practically the center of the island. Very friendly staff at the reception, they accomodated all our requests. We didn't have time to go to the beach so we took a dive at the swimming pool which was nice. The beds and bathroom were clean and comfy and the breakfast was quite nice as well. Nothing too fancy but you had a few nice options for a full and healthy breakfast to start your day. All in all a great visit and we'd visit again.
The hosts are just amazing and extremely helpful.
Just ask them for any tips about the island and they will give you all the best advice. Transport from the port to the hotel.
The rooms are big, clean and with the most amazing view. The hotel has an awesome pool which is very nice.
The hotel is a 5 minutes walk away from the centre of Chora, which is the best place to stay on Folegandros.
Thank you so much for a lovely stay, we will definitely come back!
Beautiful family run hotel in the best part of chora in Folegandros. Dimitris and his family were so kind and always checking in to make sure I had everything I needed and more. The pool area is beautiful , great views from the roof, rooms are clean and very tranquil vibe overall. Everything you need is within 5 minutes walking distance to the town, the church with sunset views, the bus stop, and restaurants. Can’t recommend enough and can’t wait to go back.
A really nice little hotel on the edge of the main village with very helpful and friendly staff.
The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are clean and tidy if a little dated. Every room on the ground floor has its own little terrace overlooking the nicely kept communal areas. The upper floor rooms have balconies and a sea-view.
The free transfer to and from the port is a real convenience and the mini-bus can also take guests elsewhere on request.
The accommodation has everything you need for a pleasant stay: it is located very central in Chora Folegandros (2 minutes from the main area where restaurants and squares are) and only 5 minutes from the bus station. Clean rooms, and open spaces outside the rooms to enjoy the beautiful view and sunrise/sunset. The room is clean and the owner Dimitris is a great host helping you in everything you need. Well done.
Perfect location close to everything yet quiet enough to disconnect.
Stunning scenic views to Panagia church. We loved relaxing on our balcony.
Room is very spacious and well equipped: good airconditioning and kitchen area.
Good storage cupboards and modern ensuite shower.

Amazing, cute and intimate hotel. Absolutely perfect. Spacious, comfortable rooms. Lovely, super-friendly husband and wife hosts. Totally authentic. Great homemade breakfast. Beer, wine, water and soft drinks available any time. 5 min walk to Chora town, which is awesome. Excellent pool area with super views of town.
Absolutely amazing hotel. Rooms were stunning, breakfast were so good (the best omelette I have ever had), but what’s the most important - service was helpful, caring and more than professional. Thank you for all your support during our trip, great advice and for that we felt so welcome.
Great little hotel in a fantastic location, just off the main square of the island. Nice room and bathroom, with a beautiful little balcony to the front of the property overlooking a quiet street. Hotel manager Sophia was incredibly helpful and accommodating. Highly recommended.
