Nice town , lots of Cafes, some restaurants , people were nice and helpful, gets busy on weekends with families and couples mostly. I would recommend renting a car to have the freedom to explore the area.

Jungang Market is pretty good. Lots of food everywhere.
Jungang Market is pretty good. Lots of food everywhere. Catch the SeaTrain to Samcheok and back for a day out. Get a T-money card and just jump on a local bus and go for a trip around town or somewhere way out in the country for a few $. Been to Gangneung 3 times before so there must be something interesting to see here.

Beautiful beaches and a surprisingly pleasant/interesting experience at the Arte Museum and the Heo Gyun Heo Nanseolheon Memorial Park. The museum was very engaging in its multimedia displays and the memorial park was a nice quiet spot to have a morning walk.
Chodang Sundubu Village was nice too with many sundubu stew options along with other fun sundubu dishes like sundubu coffee and sundubu ice cream.
Anmok Beach is another area to check out with its many cafes along the beach although it's a little more touristy. I personally preferred Gyeongpo Beach which was larger and with many more dining options nearby.
Gangneung Jungang Market wasn't as fun as the Tourist & Fishery Market in neighbouring city Sokcho though it's large enough to have a walk through. The stores close fairly early so if you're visiting it, make sure to get there by 5pm to get fair time to walk through the market.

Must play their fire crackers in the evening, it is fun.
Oh, along the beach there is a Mega Coffee Cafe which makes nice Tiramisu Coffee. It is a must try.

The place is ideal for enjoying the beach, the many cafes with awesome views and the food market. Public transportation is a bit sparse, but walking around is really nice and there are plenty of taxis.

A really nice beach resort with plenty to do for a couple of days. The beach and water are gorgeous. Wide white sand beach for as far as the eye can see and clear, clean water. The lake behind is also a nice place to stroll and hire a bike. There are plenty of coffee shops and convenience stores located along the beach front with a wide selection of Korean restaurants and sushi bars.
The only thing missing from this resort, and seemingly all the resorts along the East Coast, is any type of night life. There are no bars to speak of and the night life is really just sitting on the beach and drinking and picnicking. The restaurants are good but are limited to Korean and mainly raw fish. This is a wonderful place to see how the Koreans choose to spend their leisure time but it is not like a western resort would be in such a beautiful place. Some of its simple charm really.
The view was amazing. I liked the sea view all day long. Especially the beach was so clean and near that we can have a short walk around it anytime. The pool was great plus with the view from up to see the sea. The room was spacious enough and well organized. The most great thing is the eletronic pad where we can order and check out freely without going to the lobby and just out the room key in a key box at the parking basement.
The place is specially clean and extremely comfortable. The bed was really wide and soft and the futon was confortable to sleep on. Moreover, the heating mattress in winter was really welcomed. The location is close to the sea, restaurants, tourists places and bus station. Moreover, the host was kind and welcoming. I believe it's the best quality price ratio in the town. So I definitely recommend this place.
Room was okay for the price (very small) but their private beach and the swimming pool was great. I was little skeptical since the price for the pool was additional (About $100 for two adults and two kids) but I should say it was worth it if you enjoy the spa/ public bath. This hotel is extremely friendly for the pet. Lots of facilities ( bakery, convenient store, restaurants) in the property.
hotel is close to the train station, with multiple buses that go to the hotel so it’s easy to get to! very close to shops and restaurants as well. beaches are about 30mins away but it’s not too bad. overall worth what you’re paying for!
the staff are very exceptional, they went above expectations to help me especially Lee Sun and Ed, thankyou, a very large resort with the standard hard rock cafe Korean style on the beach with limited options close by
All rooms face the sea and are on the 3rd-5th floors. View is amazing. Beds were softer than Korean hotel average, but not as soft as American hotel average. Toilet in room had a bidet. Some free coffee and drinks.
Very nice place, near the city center. The bar is amazing, really easy to make connections. You will have the opportunity to ask for the music you want and share it with the bar with an amazing sound system !
I loved the look, feel and location of this pension! It was walking distance from the beach and close to various cafes, restaurants and busstops. We could even see fireworks from the beach one evening.
Location is amazing, room is in good size. Good towel and room facilities.
Please note that hotel name is Hotel Gangneung as in the map and on the building name, not Gangneung Tourist Hotel.
Near from the beach, nice property, spacious cosy room with facilities and staff is really nice and available. I didn’t stay enough long to enjoy their rooftop but I bet the view worth it
The pension house was amazing and it's walking distance from the beach and the mini city
The food places were not that many but great quality of food and definitely worth traveling to
It was walking distance to the KTX and 15minutes taxi to the Gangneung Ferry terminal (to Ulleungdo). There is even a local farmer's market happening daily near Aark House.
an excellent location right by the beach, with parking that was near the property but away from the busy street. very clean and comfortable, with a very nice owner.
