I lived in Victoria for 20 years and have stayed at the Emptess numerous times before and since. I find your attitude and facilities impersonal and commonplace. No individuality or character.
Run of the mill. Even the Union Club is more comfortable.
The Empress had a certain atmosphere you have lost it. No different than any other American hotel. I would stay at the Magnolia for convenience or Dashwood Inn. The only difference between the the Emptess and Sandmans is price.
You do have excellent staff. All your recent “ improvements seem to be money oriented and an effort to be “ politically correct “

Victoria is a beautiful city.
Victoria is a beautiful city. We were able to experience most of it on foot and bicycle. People were so kind and we felt safe the whole time. We also used city transit which is very clean and safe. Very impressed with our overall visit and I hope I can get back to see more. On a side note, we were there in April and many things were closed on Mondays. And a lot of the city doesn't open until 10 am even on regular work days. One of our favorite things was Fishermans Wharf. The food and atmosphere were fantastic!

A nice place to spend a quiet weekend away from the hustle and bustle of Vancouver. Downtown is easy to navigate with a lot of options to dine - restaurants, cafes and bars. Don't miss Milano coffee shop. The coffee and breakfast items are amazing. There are a couple of gluten-free and dairy-free options too. You won't need a car if you plan to explore the city but may need one to get there from Vancouver as it's a solid 30 minutes drive from Swartz Bay. All types of cuisines available in downtown - Canadian, Indian, Asian, Italian, fine dining, fast food etc. One sad thing though is that there were people sleeping in front of stores during the night. They did not look like junkies and rather just unfortunate to be in that situation. It was safe to wander about in the night but would not suggest to stretch your luck late into the night.

Very safe, clean, driving not an issue, many to see and do and surprisingly inexpensive. Buchart Garden is a must see. Having tea time or a little bite with a glass of wine at the Empress is a great experience. Driving along the Fisherman's Wharf up.to those beautiful homes and communities is a great feeling.....positive thoughts in life.

What were your favorite spots?
What were your favorite spots? Use to be along Dallas Rd. and was so proud Dallas Rd. allowed dogs to walk along with their owners but now they are segregated to a muddy field. Where did you eat? So many places and atmospheres to choose from, from ethnically infused restaurants to funky places. Awesome place for breakfast is "John's Place" and if you're celiac "Six Mile Pub". Is getting around Victoria easy? Driving down town is a test of your patience. Lights stop you every second block, left turns jam up traffic flow to traffic jams caused by crammed streets made worse with bike lanes also impact parking. What would you avoid next time? down town > Use to be that Victoria was like a shiny penny but that is no longer the case. Street are not clean and the city no longer caters to the average visitor, instead the street people and beggars rule the roost. Speaking to other they feel the same which even includes those who live there. One resident stated they never go downtown because of the filth and harassment. So sad, because I was one of the biggest cheerleaders for Victoria.

We enjoyed walking around the city, It is very beautiful, scenic city and there are a lot of interesting houses and buildings. There are also plenty of good restaurants and pubs. We enjoyed going to the Sticky Wicket each day for beers and to play darts.
The unit was very nice, facilities were great. The place has all the usual appliances that we needed to prepare our meals. Microwave oven, 4-burner stovetop, dishwasher, fridge, freezer . . . . I would highly recommend the unit to a family or someone looking to stay in downtown Victoria. Be it a few days or a few weeks. Very accessible and in close proximity to a lot of the important downtown attractions.
The building is beautiful and has many characteristic elements, it's like you're walking into someones house instead of a hotel. It feels very cosy. The hotel is situated in a calm neighbourhood and within a five minute drive to the city centre of Victoria. The room itself is clean, spacious and the bed is very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and check-in/check-out was easy to do.
The front desk staff were very friendly and accommodating. They held our luggage since we were checking out of another hotel and had a few hours to spare. The location was perfect. Within walking distance of downtown and a coffee shop and grocery store. We couldn't have asked for a better place to spend our time in victoria.
This is a standard boutique hotel. We loved the location, Victoria is a very walkable city so it certainly pays to be central. The rooms were smaller but that's to be expected with DT boutique hotels. Parking was offsite but very close and was not an inconvenience at all. The staff were super friendly.
Situated in a good location in downtown Victoria, the kitchen suite is great for being able to prepare meals. The room is quiet and comfortable. It is walking distance to The Empress, Beacon Hill, China town and great stores on Government street.
It was 15 minutes from downtown Victoria and the price is one of the cheapest we could find. The place is clean and the person at the reception was able to change us from a 2 single bed to a queen size bed (as we requested but nobody answered).
Clean, spacious rooms; free parking; good rate; good location; free breakfast; small kitchenette. We have stayed in various downtown hotels, and for the combination of the above amenities we found it the best. Would stay there again.
The hotel is in a great location in downtown Victoria. The room was comfy, stylish and beautifully renovated. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, particularly when we requested an early check in to attend a wedding!
The location was great, close to downtown Victoria and the shopping malls. Nice that the galloping goose trail runs right along the back at the hotel. The room was tastefully decorated with modern decor and very clean.
Our stay at the hotel was fantastic. The location was convenient, the staff was friendly and the rooms were spacious with great views. Overall, we would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Victoria.
Lovely old hotel in the oldest part of Victoria allows you to really experience the history and ambience of this prettiest city in Canada. Staff are great and the restaurant and pub excellent.
Beautiful hotel with amazing staff!! We were able to leave our luggage while we visited Victoria. They also treated our little Lola (dog) to a treat and made her feel welcome. thank you!
Nice welcome from Joo at front desk. Kitchen. Pool. Close to downtown. Room was quiet except for some young people returning to hotel around midnight and talking loudly in corridor.
Pretty much everything. Clean, classy, staff was delightful, breakfast was great! I’m a San Francisco girl, but if I ever go to Victoria again, I am calling Abigail’s hotel.
The security features around the hotel made me very comfortable. I was so happy to see them. It's such a great location for visiting Victoria. The staff were so lovely.
