The city is split into two sections, one where the tourists stay (North - Ouarzazate) and the other is where the locals stay (South - Tabounte)
We loved Ksar Ben Youssef the hotel there, it is in an area where mostly locals stay and there is a good restaurant near it called Cafe Restaurant la Montana where we ate and picked up some shopping from the petrol station shop
We also ate at Nature Food Restaurant and Pizzeria which was very well priced
Travel around Ouarzazate is easy with taxis, they typically charge about 100 Dhs from and to the airport, and about 50 for the inner city stuff (there were 5 of us) I think they charge things like this, 5 Dh + 5 Dh per kilometer per person or something close to that
The touristy area is very clean and built up quite nicely, the locals area is a little more run down but we enjoy to stay close to the locals and see how they live
We had a bad experience at Ecolodge Lile De Ourzazate, although the idea of their place is nice to have an eco friendly place, we found that it was not as advertised in ways which made our stay there unpleasant
Overall our stay in Ouarzazate was good, we visited a place called Ksar Ait Ben Haddou - if you do and its summer make sure you go in the morning or afternoon, because it is very hot around mid day. They also have some studios there and locations where they filmed the movie Gladiator which the locals are very proud of.
If we go back I would like to visit the other areas nearby such as Marzouga 300km away to check out the desert, there is also another area about 200km away which apparantly has nice oasis / lots of palm trees but I cant remember the name

A place with traditional architecture and great historical relevance. The ride to the airport is a short distance. Transport links to Marrakech were easy to locate and local law enforcement very visible and helpful.

Located right in between the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara...
Located right in between the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert - Ourzazate is a relatively new city but done up in the traditional Kasbah architecture. It’s famous for its film studios where a number of Historical films were shot. It’s a place where most tourists stay a night on their way to Merzouga (To see Sand dunes) or to Ait-Ben Haddou which is a Unesco world heritage site of one of the best maintained settlements where all houses / buildings are made of clay. Best part is the journey through Atlas Mountains from Tizin Tichka to Ourzazate on the long winded mountainous route alongside the Dra valley. Scenes are surreal and feel as if it’s on Mars given the amount of red clay you see in the mountains.

Ouarzazate is a great place to visit.
Ouarzazate is a great place to visit. With old Kasbahs nearby and the film Studios on the edge of the town. The Oasis at Fint is also well worth a visit. The square in the town comes alive in the evening with plenty of restaurants around the perimeter.
It was very busy in Ouarzazate and there were limited hotel rooms so I booked the Hotel Marmar and hoped for the best. I needn't have worried. I felt perfectly safe in the area. The room was large, the beds were comfortable and the shower was hot. The room was clean. It was perfectly functional. Once I had my bearings, I walked to and from the hotel with no problems. The coffee in the cafe was lovely and strong. The staff helped me with maps and a very early checkout. They were lovely to me as a solo, female traveller.
we are so grateful to Mahmoud and all of the staff there, they were just wonderful and couldn’t be more helpful, the setting, rooms and whole space is beautifully designed and the service is impeccable. We would add that if you want to enjoy a glass of wine or a drink it is better to buy at the local carrefour supermarket in Ouarzazate as it is much much cheaper and at the hotel this is not a problem. two night around a fire with music and laughter just wonderful thankyou all for such a great stay.
A unique Riad on multiple levels with wonderful small terraces with views over to Ouarzazate. Beautifully furnished with lots of greenery and tiles. It was lovely to be outside of Ouarzazate and in a small dusty village where a short stroll allows you the chance to see games of pick up soccer and children playing in the street. The kindest staff and an exceptional owner, whose advice and suggestions of off the beaten track places to visit proved invaluable. Exceptional breakfasts and dinners.
This is a new hotel and everything looks clean, neat and modern.
The room was big, with a minimalist decoration, quiet and with a beautiful balcony; the view from the balcony was great, lots of nature all around.
I loved the breakfast, a bit different from what we have experienced before in the whole Morocco: the vegetable velouté was extremely delicious - my favorite dish so far!
I was also amazed to find a Japanese toilet in the middle of Morocco - such a nice surprise!
This Riad was beautiful and very clean. The staff was exceptional and cared for our every need. The breakfast each morning was very delicious and had great views from the terrace. It was a bit far from downtown Ouarzazate but it was nice and quite. The rooms were very well appointed and the AC worked great. Beds were comfortable! It was a nice central location to visit both Aït Benhaddou, movie studios and Ouarzazate. We would stay here again!
If you like quirky, this is the hotel for you. It is obvious that an awful lot of time and effort has gone into making a unique place. The owner is very chatty and gives a lot of good information. The rooms are large and comfortable. Best shower of our whole Moroccan trip. Breakfast was perfectly adequate, though compared to other riads and guest houses we stayed in it wasn't quite the same level.
The staff at the reception were nice and helpful. The room was spacious and had many amenities, such as bootled water, a fridge and even tea.
The bathroom was quite large and clean.
The breakfast was also very good.
The location was central, next to the main Ouarzazate road.
There was also free parking for our rental in front of the hotel.
Overall a great place to stay in Ouarzazate.
Great place to stay in Ouarzazate. The place has beautiful open spaces and is beautifully designed. The staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming. They went out of their way to make me at home. Loubna, Hind, Abdo and Ilhan were all extremely kind, professional and made me want to return on future visits. Thanks to all the great staff at the hotel.
Good place if you need peace and quiet. Hotel service full of attention, they always ask what time to serve breakfast or dinner, and you can ask Omar for everything, who is there to help. Great hospitality! Thank You! Amazing traditional dishes - all prepared with fresh ingredients on site- the best tajin I’ve had in Morocco!
Ibis hotel in Ouarzazate was a lovely clean hotel with always helpful staff. We had a comfortable room with unsweet bathroom for taking so much needed showers as it was lovely hot weather and a stunning view out of our window overlooking the pool and lovely mountains.
The location of the hotel is very convenient too.
A very traditional and beautiful hotel. This hotel was very clean and well kept. And all the staff were very welcoming and helpful. but the best thing we enjoyed about this hotel by far was the food. They had a restaurant that produced some of the best food I have ever eaten in Morocco.
Very nice riad with beautiful garden/patio near the entrance to Desert or Atlas, if you looking for nice stay near Ouarzazate this is top choice. Personal was very helpful and communicate in both English and French. Wifi was mediocre but it looks like standard in Maroco.
The hotel location is superb, overlooking the oasis. Well equipped terrace with pool and places to sit and enjoy. Staff were friendly. Room was adequate. Ensure you drive across river and not stop for “parking fees” along the way. Free parking at hotel itself.
If you want to have the real Moroccan experience I think this is the place. Beautiful property in the heart of the old city, nice terrace with a wonderful view, kind staff, comfortable room with a private bathroom, great amenities, parking close to the hotel.
This is a brand new riad in the Ouarzazate area. So clean and upscale. Beautiful spacious accommodations. It is a short distance to the center of Ouarzazate but they have a restaurant on site serving traditional Moroccan dishes. Highly recommend.
Rooms are amazing and the bathrooms too. Strongly recommended. The manager of the property is an amazing guy, you can spend time with him chatting and knowing Morocco culture.
