Lovely little town/village. Castle, plaza and views of the mountains.
We had a medical emergency in the middle of the night and the doctor turned out to the health centre, where she stitched the wound on my wife's forehead, following a serious fall. It was 3.30 am, there's no chance you would get that service in England.

El Barco is a cute, very little village which one should visit while, for example, on their way from Madrid to Salamanca. Or use as a base for nature exploring and/or mountain climbing or other sports.
But there is not very much to do and see so if you're only interested in culture you're better off going to a city like Salamanca. Schedule maximum 2 days, 1 night to visist this village.
And include a Saturday/Sunday since this villages only museum (dedicated to the very famous El Barco beans) is only open in the weekend :).

FOR A 4 STAR TO 5 STAR HOTEL, WE WERE DISAPPOINTED WITH THE SOUNDPROOFING OF THE ROOM. WE EXPECT NOT TO HEAR NEXT DOOR'S CONVERSATIONS, VISITS TO THE BATHROOM, ETC. NOR
DO WE EXPECT TO GET 2 LOTS OF CIGARETTE SMOKE IN THE NIGHT BY NEXT DOOR'S OCCUPANTS SMOKING THROUGH THEIR WINDOW TO EVADE DETECTION AND THUS THE SMOKE DRIFTED TO OUR ROOM.
I COMPLAINED TO THE NIGHT RECEPTIONIST AND SHE DID NOTHING AND JUST SHRUGGED. SHE DID NOT EVEN GET UP FROM HER CHAIR TO COME WITH ME TO SEE FOR HERSELF SO THIS WAS MOST UNHELPFUL.
THE SWIMMING POOL AREA HAS ALGAE GROWING UP ONE WALL QUITE HIGH AND THE 4 SETS OF STEPS IN WERE UNSTEADY IN 3 OUT
OF 4.

The Hotel is divided into 3 (at least) buildings: Main one with the reception, bar, restaurant and Suites; another with "small houses" living room with fireplace plus room on an upper floor; and a last one with typical rooms (where we stayed). The room was well heated and was quiet. The meal we had at the restaurant was exceptionally good and the price was fair. The staff was all 5 stars. The Hotel is just outside the town and has a nice view of the mountains - pack some hiking equipment and a camera, you won't regret it.
The hotel's interior looks old and some areas need maintenance but it is clean and has good sound isolation.Staff was nice, location great & parking available. Rooms are well isolated as we heard no noise from other rooms and hotel was quite full. The bed was very comfortable and the room was quite spacious.
Really good hotel in the village, great value for money, decent sized rooms and a comfortable bed, the staff are really friendly and helpful, I had dinner which in the cafeteria was quality.
I was traveling by motorcycle and they have parking at the front.
Beautiful surroundings, lovely room in a building out from the main hotel complete with small balcony and hydromassage bathtub. Decent breakfast and great value for money, friendly staff
