Riga is a very photogenic city. The buildings are gorgeous and there are some great surprises when you explore on your on. I never take an organized tour. Plenty of restaurants. I cooked in most of my meals. But the food in the city is very good. Walk the Riga Canal! Always beautiful no matter what time of year. Loved walking around the old town, the 'quiet centre', central market. We didn't plan our visits very well because all museums are closed on Monday so we didn't get to see as many as we had hoped. We took the train out to Jurmala (beach) which was lovely but we were blessed with great weather. Learn to say 'hello' and 'thank you' in Latvia. It goes a long way. The Old Town was beautiful.
The Old Town was beautiful. Fantastic architecture everywhere. We were there in the snow and it added a beauty to the town. The huge food market was interesting and full of great foods to try. Amenities also just as described (like a big and good hair dryer instead of the cheap, generic ones at a regular hotel).
