Vik is a picturesque gem tucked along the country's stunning south coast! Reynisfjara Beach is easily accessible, where black sand meets crashing waves with towering basalt columns as the backdrop. The wind can get too strong which makes a part of the beach dangerous (sneaker waves warning), but it is still well worth visiting. The town is charming with cozy cafes (try the black crust pizza!), the locals are warm and welcoming. This town is the perfect location to embrace the opportunity to disconnect and immerse yourself in Iceland's raw beauty.

We stayed in Vik for 3 days. Totally loved it.
We stayed in Vik for 3 days. Totally loved it. It is quite a small town, but has a big supermarket (kronan), a really great quality hiking clothes/supplies store, plus a number of cafes and places to eat. We recommend Sudur Vik Restaurant especially.
We did the Katla Track ice cave tour which was amazing and left from Vik!! Also recommend Icelandic Mountain Guides Snowmobile tour - meeting point 25 mins drive from Vik. Black Sand beach is great, as is local open air pool.
We stayed in the Vik hotel which is fabulous, but as we were there for three days, I would have preferred an apartment. The hotel also operates the Vik Apartments (which I hadn't realised before I booked) - they look really good.

We based our family of 5 in Vik to explore the southern coast over 3 nights with our rental car. We found it easier to have one base rather than a different hotel each night.
We visited the Skogafoss Waterfall, Black Sand Beach, YODA caves, gorge hike, Glacier walk at Skaftafell and then onto the Glacier lagoon and Diamond Beach.
We didn’t eat out as it was expensive for what appeared average food so we went to the local supermarket and cooked back at our self catered apartment.
Vik offers lots of adventure based companies who organise tour and expeditions.

Nice small town,so windy, big waves at black sand beach, It is a nice experience. We came from Golden Circle first day, second day we went to Jokusarlon gracier lagoon and back. third day we were back to reykjavir. If just doing ring road, one night should be enough. accommodation is expersive in Vik.

Everything about this apartment was fantastic, great facilities, coffee machine , all different teas, beautiful shampoo and conditioner ,everything was so new and well looked after, free parking , supermarket across the road,
I would Highley recommend these apartments .
The apartment was lovely and very spacious, very well equiped if you wanted to use the kitchen. There was a washer and dryer (USA sizes!) , large refrigerator and stove. Beds were quite comfortable. We were on the second floor (apartment was one story) so we had a nice view of the ocean. It was one of our favorite places to stay in Iceland. There were no signs on the apartments and the hotel (VIK) where you had to get the keys was off the main road. However, they looked exactly like they did in the pictures on the internet booking site.
It is in a great location in Vik. The hotel is nice, welcoming and clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful too! We had an issue on our first night, but they tried to remedy the situation as quickly as possible and I appreciated their swift efforts! The family rooms and triple rooms are an adequate size! The beds were comfortable and clean! The breakfast was very good too! Will definitely visit here again during our next southern tour of Iceland!
This was an extraordinary stylish and beautiful hostel. My daughter and I stayed in a room with 6 bunkbeds. The showers and bathrooms were spotless. There was a small bar and you could purchase coffee and baked goods for breakfast. We didn't cook but they had a great kitchen for those who prefer to carry and make their own meals. The location was excellent on the same road as one of the most famous black sand beaches in Iceland.
Located just 10min from Viki and the amazing Black Sand beach in a peace and quiet this place was absolute amazing. Little small but very cozy, and very comfortable.beds, in the kitchen we had everything we needed, fresh towels. Perfect place to stay in south of Iceland as many amazing places are to see and what's the bonus we got to see the aurora just from our balcony one night which was an unforgettable experience
I want to say that the management was really good as we had issues with our flights (Icelandair) and had to rebook our rooms for several days later. In this case, they were accommodating. Also, the road to Vik was closed due to a snowstorm and messaging the property was easy and response was fast. Room was nice and comfortable, and breakfast was good and all you can eat!
This was the third time we've stayed here and it was one of our favorites in Iceland. The dinner and breakfast buffets are delicious and the hot tub is huge and the perfect place to end the day. It is also far enough outside Vik that you can walk to the back of the hotel and it's dark enough for the Northern Lights. The staff is also very friendly and helpful.
Excellent location for our pitstop in Vik, beautiful accommodations, front desk staff was wonderful. Restaurant had good food/drinks and the views were great! We only wished we could have stayed longer to enjoy the hotel more (we didn’t get to spend much time there due to other activities) and have recommended to several people doing stopovers in Iceland!
It's a pleasant surprise that the hotel is situated by the highway but high up on top the hill. So, you get a breathtaking view of piece of Iceland. When the clouds go away, you can see the expansive land stretching from the mountain all the way to the ocean standing in front of the hotel front yard. Quite a gorgeous spot in a clear day!
The facility of the Guesthouse is excellent. We were so lucky to get a "very very budget price" to rent this excellent guesthouse at Vik.
The lady owner is very nice. She prepared waffle batter for us for the morning breakfast. She also provided homemade jam for us.
This is the best Guesthouse during our stay at Iceland.
We liked the hotel a lot. It had good quality rooms and excellent food. The variety of breakfast food was great - biggest choice we had in Iceland so far. The restaurant is also amazing. Would be great if they added some facilities like maybe sauna or hot tub, but cannot complain at anything. Thanks!
Clean and comfortable. Handmade wool sweaters the cheapest we found in Iceland and the workmanship was superb. We didn't realize what a great deal it was at the time. If you're in the market for sweaters, call them! We will go there next visit to buy one there.
I had a brief stay at Hotel Katla in Vik, Iceland. The room was clean and spacious, and it's conveniently located, just a 5-minute drive from Vik. I didn't have the chance to use their facilities, but the breakfast was both ample and delicious.
Lovely hotel, bright with large windows and lovely view overlooking the landscape of southern Iceland. Great place to stay close to Vik and regional sites. Delicious breakfast, comfortable rooms, nicely decorated & very welcoming.
Hotel is in the town of Vik, the black beach, shops and some restaurants are in walking distance, it is an advantage when yuo are heading east from Reikjavik. Very friendly and helpful staff, giving the advices about Iceland.
Very clean rooms and great location - around 15 mins drive from Vik. The highlight of the stay was the breakfast for us - the best we had in Iceland. Lots of home made fish and delicious food options. I would 100% go back.
Nice view but not excactly a "beach" view.
Exellenct location, just a few minutes drive from Vik.
This is the best room we stayed in Iceland!
Well equipped kitchen with all the essential bit like salt and pepper etc.
The room was much better and more spacious than I expected after staying in several other locations in Iceland. We were so pleased with the cleanliness and quality of the room, especially the kitchenette and bathroom.
A great hotel, very well located for exploring the areas around Vík in south Iceland. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The restaurant not only looks amazing but the food is very good as well.
Perfect location for an overnight stay in Vik. Nice location next to some stores. Dont expect too much, it covers the basics you need on a round trip in Iceland.
