Fosshotel Nupar, hotel in Kálfafell

Situated off the Route 1 highway, Fosshotel Nupar offers panoramic views of Vatnajokull’s lava fields, mountains and glaciers. Skaftafell National Park is 45 km away.

Beautifully located in the vast middle of Icelandic nowhere. Great view. Standard breakfast buffet and the a la carte restaurant serves good food with friendly service. Our triple room was a bit small, with no real space to put your luggage, but they were redecorating rooms with a nice solution to that problem. Beds were very comfortable. The sink in our bathroom didn’t drain upon arrival and the doors of the shower cabin were really dirty on the lower part. When I reported it, it was dealt with adequately. Furthermore you’d expect the room to be a bit more luxurious for the nightly rate they charge.

I am sure there will be more activity and beautiful place to see in a nice day or summer. We are luck to get good temp in our trip (most day above the freeze and one day reached about 10C). We are not luck since there is no sun in all the trip except when we fly back to US. The mountain and beach are great even with cloud and frog.

Opportunity to see and enjoy beautiful untainted nature in the south of Iceland. Most of all we loved the Fjadrargljufur Canyon and Dverghamrar Cliffs and two wonderful glacier lagoons within easy driving distance, Fjallsarlon and Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. In the evening we had a lovely dinner at the Fosshotel Nupar. Great place to view the Northern Lights in the right season.

Svartifoss is an amazing waterfall, accessible by a five-mile {round trip} walk along an improved trail. The nearby Diamond Beach and glacial lagoons are incredible, although more highly-visited by tour bus crowds. If you visit Iceland, be prepared for all types of weather--especially rain-at any time of year. Please be respectful of the scenic beauty of this island. Allow more time than you think is necessary for driving, as you may be some distance away from any possible medical assistance in the event of an accident {Icelandic drivers are very polite--be like them}!
