Nice place to stay while visiting sites in North Iceland.
Nice place to stay while visiting sites in North Iceland. We were able to see the Northern lights while there in early October, but our lodging was slightly out of the main city lights. Nice restaurants and easy to walk around. Botanical garden was a very nice place.

Great place for a day trip, or two.
Great place for a day trip, or two. Limited eating options (compared to Reykjavik). The lagoons (Forest lagoon / Myvatn) are worth a visit. There are of course also some nearby waterfalls. There's a fantastic petting zoo which is definitely not to be missed.

Nice small city . Surprisingly bug infested in late summer.
Nice small city . Surprisingly bug infested in late summer. Wonderful sights nearby. Very few free parking lots . Dettifoss was awe inspiring. There are steam venting sites worth visiting. There are crevasses separating American and European plates you can walk across caves and crevasses where Game of Thrones was filmed . Restaurant 23 is a great fish restaurant

Akureyri is a beautiful little town in N. Iceland.
Akureyri is a beautiful little town in N. Iceland. Super picturesque, at the base of a fjord. We booked a whale watching tour with Keli Sea Tours and saw humpback whales.
Everything is walkable and there are some great restaurants, especially Strikið, where I had the best piece of salmon I have ever eaten.
The botanical garden is free and beautiful. The kids loved the little Christmas house on the edge of town.
If you are driving the ring road, you must stop here!

We was looking for local food but no one. we could find only pizza, burger, fried chicken restaurant. And we was found food truck which owner is very rude, we not recommend there but anyway bakery at the corner was very good.
This lovely guesthouse is a gem. The rooms are clean, warm and cosy. But the best part of the stay is the lovely host Elisabeth. She offered to prepare us dinner, because the stay is away from any other restaurants. She allowed us access to the washer and drier, so we could clean and dry our bathing suits and towels. All the little handmade details, the selected decorations and dishes give this place a special soul. The breakfast was delicious also, with everything you could want. Would really recommend this stay.
I liked: The location close to the airport and close to the towns center. The staff at reception, that was located in another building at short walking distance from the hotel entrance, was friendly and came with me to show me my room. The a la cart breakfast was very good. There was a water cooker with tea and coffee available. The contents of the small fridge where ‘free of charge’ (2 chocolate bars, a bag of potato chips, 2 cans of coke and 2 cans of mineral water).
We loved our stay at Sveinbjarnargerdi: the room was spacious and clean; the breakfast buffet was tasty and divers; there was a beautiful view of the fjord form our room; the hotel is very close to Akureyri but in a very peaceful location; the owner was incredibly friendly. We would definitely recommend the place and stay there again.
Ideal location in central Akureyri. The Modern Art Museum is just a stone's throw away from the hotel and a short walkaway to the botanical garden and the restaurant scene.
The hotel style charachter remains classic, yet with a modern touch in the choice of colour scheme and furniture pieces. The service is of high standard.
The room was spacious with great bathroom and kitchen. It was easy to cook breakfast and prepare coffee / tea for a day of exploring the surrounding areas. Clean and with a nice view to the commercial center of the city. The location was great, close to the city's shops and restaurants.
As the name suggests, it’s very central, a few minutes’ walk from everywhere. Comfortable room, with fridge and a nearby communal kitchen if you want to make drinks and snacks. Great bar and restaurant on ground floor, tasty breakfast. Lovely staff. An excellent good value choice.
I have stayed here several times. Lovely quiet position just outside Akureyri. Excellent breakfast and wifi. Small but pleasant rooms. One thing I really like about this hotel is the stacks of interesting books at the end of each floor. It gives the whole place a family vibe.
Nice views. Its a bit away from Akureyri but still drivable (12-15 mins).
Breakfast was decent and the dining room was clean and large. The hotel has nice amenities as we were in the newer side of the property. Good coffee and tea in the breakfast room.
Location perfect, just a short walk into town to grab an evening meal and breakfast in the morning.
The hotel and room were spotless and the facilities were great, especially the bathroom. The hotel was quirky and had a romantic feel.
We loved our stay at Kea Hotel! It is in the perfect location in the middle of downtown. There was free parking close by. We utilized their laundry service which was free and timely! The staff was very helpful and friendly!
Spacious apartment, located in the center of Akureyri, close to restaurants for dinner and breakfast. Parking on the street free between 4pm-10am; so rather convenient for 1-night stay. Everything is perfect!
The view from the hotel is amazing. Also the whole time we got access to free coffee and hot choclate. The hotel and rooms are pretty, there is enough parking space and the breakfast was good.
Delicious breakfast with a lot of choices. Modern room with good shower and bed. Very nice restaurant. It was one of the best diners we had in Iceland. Cozy bar with fireplace.
