I used to live in Witney.
I used to live in Witney. Came back to London, where I was born & raised, 15 years ago but my father & children (err, all mid-late 30's) live in that area, so I visit regularly. Summer, The Fleece for lunch outside overlooking the Green. Taxi to Hailey since The Bird in Hand is special. There is the blanket museum because it's a bit of a give away that Witney has a wool exchange, a mill and a history! Plenty of walks & fresh air. Almost forgot, Roman ruins https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-57510142

Witney is a great little town.
Witney is a great little town. Parking in West Oxon is free in all council car parks - a rarity these days. So many places to visit - Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens, Cogges Farm Museum, Blenheim Palace... it goes on. Many cafes, bars, pubs and restaurants in town. Independent shops in Witney and nearby villages/towns. It's just lovely.

Witney is a lovely little town, although the roads were very busy and noisy until you reached the quieter, traffic-restricted area in the centre. It has a wide range of places to eat and drink and a good selection of shops - chain and independent. We were very disappointed with the attitude of staff at The Plough, as we were refused a menu, even though others were ordering and eating, our drinks order wasn't completed fully and I was accused of being rude when I asked for both matters to be resolved. Needless to say, we didn't stay. San Marzano, just further down the High Street, was the complete opposite - food and service exemplary.

Witney was a stop to our air show destination. Pub, great.
Witney was a stop to our air show destination. Pub, great. Parking, not so. Restaurant menu over pretentious.
Loved the welcome. Unfortunately lights within room not working/ useless, air .com unit didn't respond. No instructions for coffee machine. A lot of style over substance.

Great place.
Great place. Very Central, close to Oxford, not too far from Stratford, and so on. Friendly, town. Could be a bit more friendly, can't say it's exactly Wholesome and Quint. But it is a nice old town with a good vibe of its own.

The centre of Witney is easy and pleasant to walk around,...
The centre of Witney is easy and pleasant to walk around, with a variety of shops, restaurants and cafes all easily accessible. There are frequent buses to Oxford (for colleges, museums, main railway connections, etc) and Woodstock (for Blenheim Palace). There is also a regular bus service across the Cotswolds to Cheltenham. Road access to Cotswold villages, walks and scenery is very good.
Location was perfect to walk around Witney, St Mary's Church and the Church Green, Coggs, Ducklington Lake and close to bus stop for travel to Oxford and surrounding area if interested. The breakfast was everything you expect for the full English along with fresh fruits, yoghurt, cereal etc., with pleasant cheerful staff each morning. The room was large with a bay window facing Corn Street, the bed comfortable and a lovely modern shower.
Let me start by saying this was our final stay, after a 15 night vacation in England and Wales.
Saving the best for last is so true in our case.
As soon as we checked in, we were greeted warmly and were so pleased to see the beautiful restaurant and bar. Where we had 2 wonderful meals.
Our room did not disappoint. It was so welcoming and spotless, and we were able to just relax and enjoy.
Staff were friendly & helpful. Restaurant was exceptionally good. We had dinner and everyone was very happy with all of their choices. Breakfast was equally good with an extensive menu suitable for all dietary needs.
We loved the animal shape made with towels, ours was a crocodile holding the tv remote when we checked into our room which had air conditioning.
This is a great place to stay - so close to Blenheim, Oxford and the Cotswolds. We based ourselves here for a weekend exploring the local area and the Cotswolds. The rooms are immaculate and have everything you need, including a shower I didn’t want to get out of and gorgeous fluffy towels. Super friendly and helpful staff.
Nick and his team could not be friendlier and more helpful. Customer service A+! The breakfast was fantastic and they all made us feel so welcome. We were staying a few nights for a family wedding close by. We highly recommend for a central and friendly place to stay in Witney.
I stay at the Bird in Hand almost every week and it is consistently the best hotel in the Witney area and I will not stay anywhere else. The food is superb whether it's dinner or breakfast, backed up by lovely, quiet and well-appointed rooms.
We enjoyed our 2 night stay.
Room very good and the hotel is close enough to Witney to be able to walk into town.
The pool/steam room make it a relaxing stay.
As breakfast is a serve yourself, you can eat what you like. (plenty of choice).
Excellent location for visiting the Cotswolds, Oxford and surrounding area. The flat was very clean and comfortable with everything you needed for a short stay. Witney is a pleasant town with a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants.
Location. Excellent place for exploring the Cotswolds, Witney and Oxford. Leafield church is also worth visiting. Lots of space in the room. Host very friendly and helpful e.g. booking a table at the local pub (very good food!)
Great location, friendly staff, great bar and restaurant. I love this hotel and paid for the best bedroom upgrade, but was a disappointed with the stay. Such a shame as I am a frequent visitor to the area.

Beautiful garden setting, excellent location to explore the area, the owner/host is lovely and she makes you feel right at home. Plus she’s provides a delicious cooked to order breakfast!
The house is perfect for a Witney stay, very central but with parking, just a few mins walk to shops & cafes. The house itself is lovely, beautifully laid out and very well equipped.
