Great quick visit to the cathedral as closing an hour after we arrived. Stunning interior with view of peregrines on spire (visible and via webcam). City was clean and sunny. Lots of restaurant choices - we went for the Slap & Pickle concession in The Counting House (hands down all three of us said it was the best burger we’d had). The sandstone buildings are stunning. Sadly didn’t have time to visit the Hepworth or YSP but will be back .

Not a welcoming city centre. Most bars had bouncers.
Not a welcoming city centre. Most bars had bouncers. Police in numbers, drafted in for Friday night. Ambulances stationed in the city centre in preparation.
Chip shops shut on Friday night. Restaurants were either very posh and expensive it had sauce bottles and kitchen roll on the tables and still expensive.

We visited The Hepworth Gallery, which was the whole reason for our trip. Wakefield is a pleasant centre to walk round, but could do with more places to eat in the evenings.
Some lovely buildings and structures to see.

Wakefield has really nice town centre with an amazing vegan Throwback Coffee House. If you prefer nature, there is a big Thornes Park with Secret garden, pond, Skate park etc. and very nice walk in nature in Pugneys Country Park.

Extra large bedroom (room 64) but small double bed, there was ample room for a king size bed. Lighting in the room was very dim and proved difficult to put on make up etc. The enormous bathroom only had a slither of a glass shelf under the mirror, over the sink, so our own toiletries had to be left on the floor.
No grab handle over the bath to access the shower, very dangerous getting in and out.
No hotel information pack in the room. So we didn't know timings for dining and pool etc. and the spa treatments on offer.
No lift to the third floor and no offer of assistance with our bags.
Cooked breakfast was served luke warm.

Our visit was to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the Hepworth Gallery Wakefield and we were very happy with the two days we spent here
We came on Megabus and used public transport throughout our stay. We did not regret the decision
The bus service was splendid, we used it between Leeds and Wakefield and the YSP and our hotel in Wakefield. Clean, regular and efficient out of a central bus station. The taxi service was good too
A nicely presented cosy cottage, well equipped and decorated. Lounge diner with large TV, central heating and a nice convection fire to keep everyone snug and warm. Two reasonable sized bedrooms and a modern bathroom.
A rural feel to the area but perfectly placed, The Bay Horse pub just a minute away and Wakefield centre 10 minutes by car. Take a walk to Newmiller Dam, more pubs and restaurants.
The hotel was very clean and well presented. We had a family room with more than enough space for the sofa bed. The added bonus of the room was a functioning mini fridge which was ideal for drinks and snacks purchased for use the next day. The shower was amazing. And the location was ideal for Wakefield centre.
Friendly staff. Tastefully decorated. Pretty garden, loved the trees. Hotel 'tired' in some areas but maybe this added to the charm. Dog friendly which is a HUGE bonus around the Wakefield area. We had a very nice time. Thank you.
We stayed at a Holiday Inn hotel and were surprised by how friendly the staff was in particular (Ben) and how spacious the room was. I highly recommend staying at any Holiday inn Wakefield hotel as you won't be disappointed.
Great location - handy for the train station, town centre, and theatre. The hotel was comfy, clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Great place for a quick overnight whilst in town doing something fun.
Excellent location to the centre of Wakefield the apartment was spotless clean and well equipped and maintained. The area was quite and safe and there's a well stocked Spar shop one minute walk away.
-The location was convenient as it was in the centre of Wakefield.
-The room was spacious with a great city view
-There was a small kitchen with a fridge, freezer, microwave and sink.
Loved our stay at the Waterton Park Hotel, the staff were excellent and the room and facilities were first class will definitely go back if looking for somewhere to stay in the area.
Didnit have breakfast had dinner the night before which was good was meeting grandson. Bed was very comfy. Hotel easy to find with free parking. Not to far to walk into town centre.
