Shanklin and Sandown are beautiful beaches but both towns are dying. Shops empty etc. Parking expensive and a nightmare to find which took a lot of the enjoyment out of the trip. Parking charged 24 hours 7 days a week.

The hotel is located in old Shanklin which is delightful.
The hotel is located in old Shanklin which is delightful. The main part of Shanklin is run down and not appealing. Despite this it has an excellent beach and would be a good place for a beach holiday with the right weather.

The beachfront and beach were lovely, accessible from the clifftop area via a lift suitable for everyone. Lots of places to sit and eat and drink. The far end of the beach past the Fisherman's cottage pub was dog friendly with a wide flat sandy area. Shanklin chine was lovely to walk through and explore as was the old village full of charming old shops and buildings. Shanklin town centre was within a short walk with a mix of shops some areas did look a little tired but we found virtually all places were dog friendly. The station was only a short walk from our hotel with a regular reliable service to Ryde. Using the Trainline app enabled us to get flexible day returns at reduced costs and we could hop on and off along the journey. Overall a very pleasant and well positioned place to stay, the hotel and staff were wonderful very welcoming and accommodating who made as much fuss of our dog as us.

Shanklin is a quaint place. Nice beach and quite long.
Shanklin is a quaint place. Nice beach and quite long. Shops could probably do with an upgrade but had a nice couple of pubs and excellent Italian restaurant, plus Indian and Chinese. High Street has a few coffee shops but also some empty shops like most places these days. You can get a lift down to the beach area or walk but it has quite a hill on the way up. Good walk to Sandown along the promenade. Local roads need a bit of work done to them but main roads ok. Lovely countryside and views of the sea. Couple of nice pub/restaurants in the Esplanade worth visiting.

Everything visitor wise in Shanklin is based around the old...
Everything visitor wise in Shanklin is based around the old village which is on a steep hill, which can be a challenge to the less sprightly members of society. We ate at some good restaurants such as Pendleton's, Pavarotti's, Kurga Thai & The Village Inn. There are others that are good as well. It is essential to book in advance at the restaurants as they are smallish and very busy.
I had such a fabulous stay at The Aqua, didnt want to leave. Mandy, Helen & Laura were so welcoming I felt right at home. The location is perfect with beautiful Shanklin beach right on your doorstep. The whole place is spotless and the team at Aqua has made my hol/break the best I've had in a long time. HIGHLY recommended 👌
It was the first time I stayed here and will certainly be booking here again next time I am in the IOW.
Thanks again Aqua family ❤

Great central location to Shanklin old village , literally a five min walk to the Chines, pubs and restaurants.
The property was immaculate, room one was large with plenty of space for belongings and a great shower.
Super buffet style breakfasts, something slightly different each day made a change from fried breakfasts every morning.
Tea, coffee, biscuits water replenished every day.
Friendly relaxed hosts that just let you get on with things.
Fabulous stay, really recommend 😊
Small Friendly Hotel, run by a wonderful couple. Rooms are very comfortable and very clean. Excellent Breakfast. Has a lovely lounge area with a small bar over looking the beautiful front garden and Sea Views. At the rear of the hotel is a fabulous pool area. Plenty of car parking facilities. Nice walk down to the beach front. We loved the old village of Shanklin, with some excellent restaurants - 5 minute walk.
Without exception, all staff members were cheery and helpful. By the end of or four nights, we felt like family. As well as the included breakfast, hot coffee, tea, biscuits and fruit were layed out 24hrs per day for residents to partake. Location was right in the old town part of Shanklin.. Ideal for a beach stroll, The Shanklin Chine and a multitude of restaurants.
The building itself is situate in a very good position with sea views from, I believe most apartments, so a very short walk to the sea and to Shanklin Chine and to restaurants and pubs along seafront. A lovely quiet area with some beautiful clifftop properties and lovely walks. The Victorian building which houses the apartments looks most impressive and well decorated.
Very friendly staff in an excellent period house, in a superb location in the middle of Shanklin Old Village. Car Parking although some spaces were tight if others were taken nearby. High quality service and fresh very good quality breakfasts served on hot plates. Overnight oats were simply awesome. An excellent shower and a room with sea views.
We were greeted warmly and made to feel at home. The staff were very accommodating. Our rooms were cozy and had an amazing view of the ocean. This hotel had pretty grounds with an inviting outdoor eating area. Checking in and out was very easy. Our stay was very short but would return to this location.
Great value for money for our two-night stay in December. The decor could do with an update but the room was comfortable and clean. Hotel had great facilities including a swimming pool and the free breakfast was a bonus. Location was fantastic and just a short walk to Shanklin town and the seafront.
Very Friendly and welcoming staff who managed Covid safety excellently. Brilliant room with sea views on both sides, the hotel is a short walk from Shanklin Old town and sea front. Great food and one of the waiters Andy deserves a special mention for his amazing customer service.
The staff were amazing. In particular, they were very sensitive to the needs of my elderly mother. The room was bright, airy and comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. Dinner at the sister hotel was fabulous too. We'd love to come back another time.
Friendly owners who would do anything you asked. Great choice of breakfast cereals and cooked breakfast. Very good location for access to old village and also the footpath to the seafront. Good sized room with clean bathroom.
A very professionally run hotel Excellent decor, fittings and very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was excellent. Freshly prepared and good quality.
Location was excellent near the Old Village of Shanklin.
We went to the festival and believe me this far outweighed the other option of camping at the site. We had lovely showers daily and slept like babies. We even went in the refreshing sea of Shanklin bay!
I do not know. Booking.com booked us on the wrong day… not the day on our confirmation letter. The hotel staff were very nice, but it seems Booking.com often makes these mistakes
Excellent room, clean, comfortable& quiet. Wonderful sea view. The hotel is in an excellent location, and with a bit more TLC and expenditure could be a really nice hotel.
Excellent choices for breakfast and delicious . Property was well placed for all local areas - close to beach, shops, bars & restaurants, old village and chine.
