Five pubs within a stones throw of each other in the main square. My kind of town.
The Crown was excellent and recommended by three different random strangers
Best stocked co-op I’ve ever seen 😆
Friendly people in the shops and pubs.

The Triangle has good food and proper beer.
The Triangle has good food and proper beer. Also The Lamb and Flag serves a good pint of Cwrw. You must visit the 5 reservoirs whatever the weather. We only managed 2 on our 3 day visit as the weather was poor. However as it rained so much the overtopping of Claerwen dam was spectacular to see and hear.

Everything you could need is there.
Everything you could need is there. Friendly welcoming community. Excellent pubs, cafes and takeaways. Good shops. Prices very good. Lots of places to visit.localy. Remember there's no such thing as bad weather just inappropriate clothing. Everywhere is dog friendly.. We love Elan, great visitor centre, with gift shop, not overpriced and a coffee shop with great food, dog and child friendly. Great place to burn off excess energy, walk, bike,or run. Cheap parking, free hour or £3 all day. Lots of wild life and facilities for disabled people.

We came to Rhayader to go round the Elan Valley dams as we do each New Year. This time we decided to stay overnight and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in spite of the torrential rain. Whilst we enjoyed bed and breakfast at The Bear, we dined in the Crown in the evening where the food was excellent and the beer was good as well. The staff were great at the Bear and the Crown.
The Elan Valley and its dams, built to supply Birmingham with water and opened about 120 years ago, just a mile of two from Rhayader are well worth a visit to see the Victorian engineering. The Visitor Centre, as well as serving brilliant bacon baps and a cuppa, also houses a museum and shop where there is so much information about building the dams and the things that you can do in the valley like walking, cycling, bird watching and much more. We had a good time there.

Hafod Hardware shop is a must as its sells an eclectic mix of items and a visit to the tearoom by the clock tower. The only negative would be the lack of understanding of most drivers on how to negotiate the roads around the clock tower !

Amazing location to visit, stunning scenery!
Amazing location to visit, stunning scenery!
We’ve visited this area a few times over the years & it never disappoints, we Cycle or Walk as there’s plenty of well sign posted trails in the Elan Valley.
This place is located on the road between Rhayader village and the dams. It’s secluded and quiet. The village itself is fairly busy and noisy so the quiet is great.
Our room was at the back part of the house. Very roomy with a huge bed. Everything was clean and very comfortable, other than the bathroom.
The hosts do serve a limited menu dinner which was not outrageously priced and was quite good. Breakfast was excellent.
The hosts, including their old dog, are helpful, friendly and worth a chat.
This is where you must stay if you are in the Elan Valley. Rachel and her husband are really special people. They are warm hearted and incredibly generous. I had a fantastic time in Elan Valley Hotel. I was looked after like a combination of royalty and family. The bed was enormous and sumptuous. The food was delicious and I really had a memorably special time. Come here to enjoy the beautiful Valley and experience true generous hospitality that only the Welsh could provide. Thank you so much.
Lovely location in the centre of Rhayader so very convenient for shopping or going out for meals. The house is set back from the road and so is very quiet. The area for parking is spacious and there was outdoor seating (suitable for meals outdoors) at both the front and back of the house. The house was very modern, nicely furnished and the kitchen facilities were excellent. The wifi worked really well too. Overall the house was outstanding value for money.
We stayed here after visiting the Elan Valley reservoirs which we found out about after seeing the hotel on Four in a Bed. We had a evening meal which was fabulous and found the owners and staff to be extremely friendly and attentive. We stayed in room 10 which had beautiful views of the mountains and in the morning had a lovely show from the Red Kites (there’s a local centre nearby)! Breakfast was spot on and overall extremely good value for money.
We loved the accommodation and location, views were lovely, accommodation was very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed, it was in a lovely peaceful location but only a short drive to the nearby village of Rhayader and the spectacular Elan valley, hot tub was a big hit with the kids and was lovely to relax in after a busy day sightseeing, would highly recommend this property and will definitely be booking again 😀😃
I love the location and the set up of the rooms, they have character and comfort. Room 4 is particularly spectacular. Interestingly the lump of iron that acts as a door stop upstairs comes from a theatre counterweight flying system, there are no theatres nearby so I would be fascinated to find out how it got there.
Staff, very helpful. Check-in was easy and straightforward. Parking was free, safe, and close to hotel. Lots of space in the room and had some nice features. The bed linen was nice and clean. The location of the hotel in the town is amazing. The area is very beautiful.
Rhayader is a beautiful community situated near Brecon Beacons National Park. The Guesthouse is within walking distance of the town center. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, breakfast was great, staff were very engaging & helpful. We had a very nice visit.
Excellent location a few minutes walk into town and very quiet. Rhayader is a lovely town with some nie pubs to eat in and is very close to the Elan Valley which is lovely. Room was very nice and comfortable, great shower, superb breakfast and great views
The staff were fantastic and the hotel is in a beautiful location. We really enjoyed our stay. If you are bringing a dog, the ground floor bedroom has a door that takes you onto a grassy area. Great for letting the dog out for a quick break before bed.
Breakfast was not at the Lamb & Flag, but adequate at Ty Morgan's nearby. The access to & from the property was easy as I was given my own key, and my room was only on the 1st floor. The village had a good mix of convenience shops & pubs.
Very homely and friendly atmosphere and good value. Staff great and evening meal and breakfast in the hotel were both very good.
Adequate parking for 6 large motorcycles at back of hotel.
Lovely room and en suite facilities were wonderful.
Breakfast was first class.
The views from the hotel are breathtaking.
The location is perfect, a short walk from all the facilities.
Lovely cottage- comfortable and well equipped. Great location. Always spaces available to park on-street near property. Comfortable beds. Hot showers. Great communication from host.
very nice place to stay, one thing to bear in mind no parking at the hotel but there plenty aprox 100m away . very good value for money- I'll definitely be stay again .
It was in the centre of town. Convenient for shops, pubs etc. and for exploring the immediate area. Plenty of walks from Rhayader including the Elan Valley Trail
