Peaceful location, lovely courtyard room with everything needed, including a very comfortable bed. Fantastic breakfast and excellent evening meal on the day we chose to eat there. It was nice staying next to the bar - we could have a drink in the evening without worrying about who was going to drive. We're not golfers, but learned a bit about the sport while we were there! Also was great to be so close to the Nature Reserve and able to walk around Rutland Water.

Very convenient to find by car, tranquil setting and good off road parking. Spacious/well appointed room, very comfortable bed and an equally spacious bathroom. Quirky decor which suited our taste..Excellent food; for dinner we opted for Greek specialities for starters and mains. The chocolate pudding/mousse was thick set and wonderfully decadent! The full cooked breakfast was equally good.

I love the scenery, the wildlife, I'm a walker, so great walks, the town of oakham has everything u need, but what I like most is it's not commercialised, still a pretty little market town.i also used train & went to peterborough, the parking at the station was only £2.50 for the whole day. I had lunch one day at a lovely little cafe tucked in the corner of the market Square called Hungry Birds.

There are some pretty villages around in this area. Also, of course, Rutland Water is a great attraction, with walks, cycle rides and many water activities.
Oakham itself has the remains of a castle with a tearoom.

Trip on the Rutland Belle around the lake was relaxing
Normanton church beautiful lovely place to sit on the benches and look out over the lake
OTTER cafe in Oakham is a must, beautiful food, friendly staff and efficient service also a great place to buy gifts.
Sun Inn in Cottesmore provide a lovely Sunday lunch
The location is absolutely breathtaking. It is what I would call a resort hotel where there is enough to do that you need not venture off site. I found the hotel and all communal areas were immaculate. There is a beautiful design to the interiors. Breakfast was a good offering with plenty to fill you for the day. I found the staff to be excellent. I'm afraid my expectations of staff in the UK to be generally poor so it is always pleasant when you find it closer to Dubai standards.
Beautiful house in a very small village but not far from restaurants and sightseeing locations. The room was clean and beautiful and cozy, the bathroom clean and quite large. Our host provided all the things we could have needed. She was so welcoming friendly and helpful. The area had beautiful scenery it was a very relaxing and quiet evening. We only stayed one night but hope to return again soon.
The room was clean and comfortable if a little dated but the ambience of the hotel, bar, dining and relaxing areas was fabulous. Staff wonderful and a great location to meet with old friends. Quiet and comfortable nights sleep followed by exceptional breakfast (choices and the food). Have to say, incredible value for money apart from evening meal. Christmas decorations were inspired and welcoming.
Great location, quiet, but central enough to access the town of Oakham and surrounding areas of Rutland and beyond. Beautiful cottage, comfortable, cozy and clean. Lovely welcoming hosts who have made the cottage feel more like a home. Definitely recommend staying here if anyone is thinking of visiting the area.
Lovely quiet location , within walking distance of shops, pubs and restaurants but also quiet walks. Lovely outside space to sit when the weather was nice and ample space for a family with growing teenagers to share. Well placed for Rutland Water but also ideally located to visit nearby cities and towns.
The whole experience was great: good value, very friendly staff, and the room was so quiet and had all we needed. The hotel also served as a great jumping off place to visit Rutland Water and other nearby attractions. We would definitely stay there again as we did to visit family nearby.
as soon as you walk in the door it’s excellent. the only issue inside is I prefer a higher water pressure when I am taking a shower. best thing was the air conditioning, I was there during a heat wave and all of travel buddies complained about the hotels not having air.
Well, we have been coming to Oakham/Rutland fishing for the past 20 years, usually staying at the 'Whipper in', the transformation the NEW MANAGEMENT TEAM, have made and continually making will bring back this hotel to the standard expected by visitors to Oakham.
it is being improved/renovated very well under new owners. the lounge/bar area has been upgraded very tastefully and has a cosy log fire and the dining room is well presented and has lots of character. Good free car park close by.
Lovely welcoming reception area.
The location was superb and very scenic. Couldn't stop taking photos. The two rooms that we had were brilliant value for money and were fully loaded with everything we would've expected to have. Could you come back any time to explore this incredible area.
Breakfast was not provided. Was it supposed to have been?
This was not a hotel. It was just "rooms" that were difficult to find. I received no instructions on how to get into the room.
The room was cold with no way of activating the radiator.
Staff were superb, excellent breakfast choice on the menu , food was of the highest quality, Location is ideal for exploring Rutland water and surrounding areas.
Car park always had a space or two to park. Only 10 mins drive to Oakham
Friendly staff. Very peaceful and quiet location. Handy for the town and easy to get to. Nice breakfast included. I have stopped at this hotel before and was not let down on this return visit. Great for activities at Rutland Water.
Location was fine, plenty of car parking, evening meal was good but expensive and because we had to leave early in the morning the hotel would not cook us a breakfast but did provide us with breakfast things to make in our room.
Well located near a park and grocery stores. 10 minute walk into the centre of Oakham. The two bedrooms with double beds were separated by the living floor so provided privacy (we didn't use the other two top floor bedrooms).
Location was good for a visit to Rutland Water . Also visited Barnsdale garden , beautiful ! And Belvoir Castle only a short drive away . Ate at the hotel and food was excellent . Staff were super friendly .
Good location. Pleasantly decorated hotel, clean & tidy. No maintenance issues. Had everything we needed. Good value for money, nice breakfast, pleasant staff.
