The welcome at Matfen was lovely, being seated in the great hall while your car is parked by concierge and bags taken to the room is a great touch. Our room was spacious enough and we had a lovely little balcony with views to Matfen village which is 2 minutes away. The rooms were spotlessly clean and great amenities including fresh milk, the decor of our room is a little tired but it didn't detract from our stay. I also had a fantastic facial in the spa and we used the pool, sauna and steam room which were very good. Then to Emerald restaurant which was incredible such a wonderful surrounding to enjoy delicious food and a great bottle of South African Pinotage. We definitely recommend a stay here and we loved it so much we have already booked again to stay in December with our parents. See you again in a couple of months. Possibly our new favourite getaway hotel.

Sits in a very scenic location near the village of Matfen but also near Newcastle and Hexham. A very impressive looking hotel and inside did not disappoint. There has a lot of character. Food was good and staff excellent. Perfect hotel to have a relaxing break and plenty around if you want to see things eg Hadrians Wall or Corrbridge. It also has a lovely spar but best to book treatments in advance. We will definitely be going back.
Grand hall and entrance and overall new addition orangery and restaurant aesthetic was stunning and really gets you excited for a wonderful hotel… that’s where the wow starts and finishes really! Shame the grounds and hotel building / renovations have potentials to be outstanding and a world class place but it’s got zero to off in any other way.
This an excellent hotel. Sets a very high bar for comfort, the restaurant is superb and the staff very attentive.
Setting is perfect. In the country but an easy stroll to Matfen and within an easy drive of Corbridge and tourist sights.
The food was all lovely. overall an exceptional stay. The staff were all lovely and very informative when asked about the history of the hotel. it would be nice to see pictures displayed of the changes to the hotel over the years.
The whole experience was exceptional. From the minute we walked in the staff were tentative and welcoming.
The food was amazing and the spa treatments were beautiful. Can’t fault Matfen Hall. We will be returning very soon.
The hotel has been exquisitely renovated. The attention to detail is amazing. It still retains its original historical features but with a modern twist. It is simply beautiful inside and out. Very luxurious bedroom.
We were speachless. Beautiful hotel, great facilities, the staff was amazing, the food was the best we ever had, and the room was luxurious. We will definitely come back!
