Very historical town, beautiful Abbey gardens, small museum. Nice shops, cobbled streets. Lots of other pretty towns and villages around, eg Lavenham. Country houses eg Ickworth, Thetford Forest to wander in. The area oozes with history

Bury St Edmunds is a beautiful Town with plenty of lovely places to visit. It has a very unspoilt, almost old fashioned feel to it. There are plenty of great Independent shops and also larger more recognisable high street chains. The Abbey Gardens are beautiful especially in the Summer time. You are spoilt for choice with the selection of cafes, restaurants and pubs to eat in. The Apex is a fantastic venue to watch a show in or just wander in and have a coffee.

Bury St Edmunds is a wonderfully historic English town with a slower pace than Cambridge. It’s definitely a really nice change from busy London. I would stay in Bury St Edmunds over Cambridge. Just take the train to Cambridge for a day and then come back to the calm of Bury St. Edmunds to enjoy your precious time minus the tourists.

Bury St Edmund’s is a very English town full of heritage.

Bury St Edmund’s is a very English town full of heritage. The Abbey Gardens and ruins are beautiful and well maintained. The town is full of small gourmet restaurants and quaint cafes. Giggling Squid restaurant is amazing! There are plenty of shops for buying gifts and a regular market on Wednesdays. You do not need a car to get around this town.

Bury St Edmunds is a lovely place to visit and the Abbey Gardens are lovely to walk round. We were seeing relatives, The Bushal was in an ideal place near the town. We went by train so no car and The Bushal was good for that. A good place to visit, and historical.

Bury St Edmunds is lovely, pretty Abbey Gardens and a mix of shops. We stayed at The Westgate Pub. £110 for 1 night. It was old, tatty with peeling paintwork, and a very suspect looking kettle. The owner was pleasant, but the rooms need a clean and updating. We will return to the town but choose accommodation better. Shame.

We had chosen this hotel as it is near to the railway station as well as the centre of town. It is an old and pretty well maintained building with some interesting architectural features. It is not staffed, though adequate instructions had been sent via SMS in order to access the key to the front door and to the room. The bedroom and bathroom were very spacious, well equipped and warm. The bed was large and very comfortable. A useful stop-over fairly close to the centre of Bury St Edmunds.

There are not many hotels whose staff help you to and from you car with luggage these days (unless you are in the big cities). The rooms are really clean, but ours not overly spacious. The food however was excellent. There were five in our party staying at the hotel and couldn't fault the food. One of our party had their dog with them and the hotel were more than accomodating. The staff we encountered were very polite and helpful.

Situated in the Eastgate district of Bury Saint Edmunds lovely Old buildings and very quiet and a park opposite leading to the main town and cathedral and ruins. The food was great it's a definite return for us.

Had a most enjoyable weekend stay at The Abbey Hotel Lovely comfortable room full of character. All the necessary creature comforts provided in style. Ideal location just a short walk into the town centre to explore. Lovely peaceful gardens at the rear to sit and chill out Hotel staff very welcoming and accommodating – nothing was too much trouble for them Have no hesitation in recommending it.

Nice country hotel with slightly old-school charm a short, 10-minute drive away from Bury St Edmunds and offering decent value for money. The room was clean, the hotel itself as well. It was also quiet, the view to the garden was nice, parking space was plentiful and the countryside surroundings nice (although we didn't get to go for a walk).

The location was excellent. Parking can be difficult in town centre. It's right on the street so quite noisy with windows open. The noise was fine to deal with given the perfect location and having an amazing view of the cathedral from the living room and bedroom. Apartment was clean and comfortable.

We loved the beautiful building and home-from-home feel. The location next to park and walks, and very close to the shops and restaurants in the town centre was excellent. Main rooms including kitchen were well equipped and easy to live with.
