Quaint little village with just enough amenities with plenty of activities in and around the place. There's a coop shop for groceries, and some nice restaurant choices too. There's a small petrol station here as well so it's useful for fuelling up if you plan to drive any great distance. I'd happily come back here, but it's a small place so it's limited in some ways if you plan to stay for any great length of time.
We ate from two restaurants here, the New Shanghai Chinese takeaway, and the Alexandra Hotel restaurant. Both were very satisfying meals and good value for money, and I'd happily come back to both. The village is fairly small, so it's very walkable if you want to mill around and explore the pubs, shops and cafes.

Lovely picturesque village in Royal Deeside.
Lovely picturesque village in Royal Deeside. Shop fronts, the streets and the buildings are immaculately kept. Has many great places to eat and drink. Great walk along the old Deeside railway line. I went on a drench November midweek day, so there wasn't a lot happening, but the surroundings are nice. Fantastic place for solo travellers, couples and people who like the great outdoors.

The new owners are clearly trying to make a go of running the hotel and are extremely pleasant.
I will be more than willing to stay again to help support their endeavors.
Like all older hotels there is work to be done but Rome was not built in day.
It is all personal preference at the end of the day, the hotel is clean as was my room and bathroom which is a big plus for me and the owners welcoming.

A beautiful town with a clear sense of pride - very well...
A beautiful town with a clear sense of pride - very well looked after, very clean, a variety of shop, selection of interesting eating places, very picturesque with the old railway station, with a tall-spired church set in a large green at its heart, plus the pretty river. I can highly recommend the Green Inn - imaginative Italian cuisine, excellent service.
Absolutely loved this stay here and truly wished we had spent more than one night here. The place has a lovely need and honestly was the best nights sleep I've had in Scotland this far. The place was beautiful and location was perfect. It was close to several hiking trails which we took advantage of. There continental breakfast was quite robust and we were happy with that. The host was an incredibly friendly individual, we enjoyed speaking to him and honestly which we could have known him better.
It was our privilege to arrive on the first day Cath and her nephew Shamus took possession of the B&B. The house suited us perfectly as it was, but the new owners hit the ground running with plans for renovations and extending the accommodations to build yurts for walkers on the adjacent property. Cath and Shamus’ enthusiasm and kindness was boundless. We wish them every success. The location was perfect for walking in Cairngorms, and a skip and hop from the fascinating Muir of Dinnet.
Everything was exceptional. The bed and linens were wonderful, the room and bath was large, the breakfast was phenomenal. Louise is a fantastic cook and left lemon cake and homemade shortbread in our room. Martin met us at our car, carried in our bags (such a help as we are older), and told us everything we needed to know about the house and Ballater. Their home is absolutely gorgeous, every detail is complete. It was a joy to stay at Craggan. And the view and terrace is so pretty!
The location is great for visiting Balmoral and other castles. The whole place is warm and cosy and very clean. The staff especially Fiona are very friendly and helpful.Everything works.Breakfast is lovely and plenty of choice. The scrambled eggs and smoked salmon is especially nice.Parking next to the hotel. It is in Ballater which is a lovely town.It is right beside the bridge over the beautiful river Dee
The room was comfy. Breakfast was fabulous, made to order and served by the friendly owners. We had some lovely conversations with them. They are knowledgeable about the area, and suggested great places to eat and explore.
The location is right in the centre of town. Lots to explore in Ballater, with Balmoral Castle and Braemar nearby. Take advantage of the walks in the area, too.
Such a wonderful experience at St. Andrews bed and breakfast. The hosts, Natalie and Tony, are darling and were so accommodating and friendly. The special touches, fresh flowers and classy décor were a plus. The room was spacious and ours had a couple nice windows that overlooked the forest. We had a wonderful stay.
the location is ideal for a stay in Ballater and surrounding areas, there’s plenty of on street and off street parking, although none allocated to the hotel. The style is 80’s Scotland with dark colours, subdued lighting and well appointed furniture. the breakfasts are more than adequate - good value.
The location was so good in the heart of Ballater. The parking was easy with a large carpark just over the road and a Co-op nearby to purchase breakfast items. The rooms are above a lovely Italian restaurant which welcomed us each night we were there . Lovely warm service and good food.
Great and well equipped cottage in beautiful Ballater. Fab location for exploring the surrounding area and the little town has all amenities you need. The hosts are very accommodating and communication was very good. We would definitely go back.
The hotel and staff were very welcoming. The room was great. Lovely natural materials (linen bedding etc) and attention to detail. Great location and wonderful to be able to borrow the bikes for a ride in the local area before we headed off.
Lovely room, very comfortable bed, good bathroom and shower. Excellent location and free parking right out front. The breakfast was the best we had in Scotland. Wonderful host couple running the establishment.
I hiked across Scotland for the TGO Challenge, and the Gordon Guest House was my one luxury stay during that effort. It was amazing - very clean, great food, comfortable bed, central local - perfect!
Lovely little apartment perfect for a short break.my family are from Ballater and nice to stay in the monaltrie after eating here when it was a hotel/restaurant years ago.
Never been in a hotel so clean! Lovely and very modern. Natali and Toni were fabulous hosts. Breakfast was excellent. Very well located for a short walk into Ballater.
Perfect location to explore the town & surrounding area. Room and bathroom were a good size and definitely met my needs. Staff were very friendly and sociable.
