Quaint little village with just enough amenities with plenty of activities in and around the place. There's a coop shop for groceries, and some nice restaurant choices too. There's a small petrol station here as well so it's useful for fuelling up if you plan to drive any great distance. I'd happily come back here, but it's a small place so it's limited in some ways if you plan to stay for any great length of time.
We ate from two restaurants here, the New Shanghai Chinese takeaway, and the Alexandra Hotel restaurant. Both were very satisfying meals and good value for money, and I'd happily come back to both. The village is fairly small, so it's very walkable if you want to mill around and explore the pubs, shops and cafes.

Lovely picturesque village in Royal Deeside.
Lovely picturesque village in Royal Deeside. Shop fronts, the streets and the buildings are immaculately kept. Has many great places to eat and drink. Great walk along the old Deeside railway line. I went on a drench November midweek day, so there wasn't a lot happening, but the surroundings are nice. Fantastic place for solo travellers, couples and people who like the great outdoors.

The new owners are clearly trying to make a go of running the hotel and are extremely pleasant.
I will be more than willing to stay again to help support their endeavors.
Like all older hotels there is work to be done but Rome was not built in day.
It is all personal preference at the end of the day, the hotel is clean as was my room and bathroom which is a big plus for me and the owners welcoming.

A lovely small friendly village with a Co'Op and a three takeaways. Indian, Chinese and fish and chips. Ballater is a gateway village to multiple walks and places. Ideally situated for Braemar and Glenshee skiing Centre.
The views while you are there are absolutely stunning.
Well worth visiting.

A beautiful town with a clear sense of pride - very well looked after, very clean, a variety of shop, selection of interesting eating places, very picturesque with the old railway station, with a tall-spired church set in a large green at its heart, plus the pretty river. I can highly recommend the Green Inn - imaginative Italian cuisine, excellent service.
Beautiful old stone building with that old world feel. immediately upon our arrival we were made very welcome. The fire was on in the common areas making it very cozy to be there. Breakfast was continental with more than enough choices. We had booked for one night but stayed for 2.
The location near Ballater and Belmoral Castle was fabulous as were the nearby nature walks. Will definitely stay again if in the area.
After an initial misunderstanding about the car park which has been converted to an outdoor bar area, the owner was very helpful in making space for my motorcycle at the front of the hotel.
Great food, lovely ale, very nice lounge bar. Very pleasant staff. Lovely breakfast and restaurant area.
The location was great for my trip although due to bad weather I didn't really explore Ballater itself on foot.
Absolutely the best B&B experience we’ve ever had. Imagine your perfect B&B with luxury accommodations and friendly hospitality. Then imagine your perfect breakfast on top of that. Craggen fulfills all of those wishes and more. The location is ideal the setting is beautiful and the owners are true gems. Thanks so much to Louise and Martyn for a perfect time at their lovely home.
A good-sized bedroom and bathroom, and the property was well located for our purposes. A good breakfast, with a conveniently early option, which suited us as we were running a race beginning in Braemar, and had to be there quite early.
We drove the couple of miles to Ballater in the evening for food, and there were lots of eating options there.
Lovely little cabin. The bed was ridiculously comfortable, and we had everything we needed in the kitchen. The location is great, close to Ballater and Braemar within driving distance. We used the tub, and it was a real experience!
Very peaceful stay and glad to be able to bring our dog with us. Have recommended to friends.
It is as beautiful as it looks in the pictures, so charming inside and out. Owners and staff are friendly and helpful, as was the hotel dog. Food was very good (new chef: doing great!) When we first drove up I said I wanted to live there, and I still do, lol. It's just really well done and feels elegant but welcoming.
We had a lovely stay at the Gordon Guest house. Steve and Beth do a brilliant job of running a small hotel. Breakfast was fab and really comfy bed. We stay in Ballater a lot and will definitely stay again.
Excellent location within walking distance of beautiful Ballater centre. Nicely furnished, clean and comfortable. Private patio area in the sun. Friendly greeting on our arrival.
Lovely little apartment perfect for a short break.my family are from Ballater and nice to stay in the monaltrie after eating here when it was a hotel/restaurant years ago.
The dining room and lounge were nice, some areas of the hotel look like they have been redone already. The spa/massage was a nice little extra that we both enjoyed.
