Known for its international diplomacy, Geneva is the gateway city to the Swiss Alps and contains many international organisations that lend the lake-side city a cosmopolitan flair. It is filled with the best in cuisine, diverse languages and people, and top 5-star hotels.
It's easy to fly in to Geneva Airport, and like the rest of Switzerland, the public transport system is incredibly efficient. And the antique shops and steep, cobbled streets of the Old Town can be explored by foot or bicycle.
Many of the sights are monumental buildings such as the St Pierre Cathedral, but you can escape the chilly winters inside museums and galleries displaying everything from the Renaissance to the Contemporary.
Even if getting out into the wilderness of the Swiss Alps isn’t an option, there’s plenty of nature accessible within the city limits. Parc des Bastions offers tree-lined walks and a game of giant chess and Parc de la Grange is a green space situated on the Lake Geneva promenade. Jet d'Eau, a 140-metre high fountain in the centre of Lake Geneva is beautifully lit at night.
With over 90 hotels available, Booking.com ensures that whether you are travelling for business or pleasure you can experience the best accommodations Geneva has to offer.

A nice city, but it feels like a lot could be seen in little time. I stayed for 2 days and it seemed enough.
The lake is nice, and I like the diversity of restaurants there. A lot of rare birds for France, but handfed by the public, which isn't nice. Public transportation is easliy accessible and it was very nice to get a free illimitated pass even to the boat buses (given by most of the hotels)!
There is also a small open air iceskating ring, a lovely park by the lake and virtual reality experience.
We did walk past a man searching for a fight around 8PM (he was obviously drunk and told us to call the cops, and we had just walked past 3 frightening guys, not so far from the center), and we also saw a cyclist inconscious on the pavement by day with a huge injury on the head... Not feeling really safe there ^^;

Geneva is like a condensed version of Manchester: big buildings, great transport infrastructure, and welcoming people. It is extremely expensive though - 3-4x as much as London, which shocked me.
However it is a bit grotty near the train station (where all the best ethnic food is typically), and I didn't feel totally safe. Interestingly, the RLD felt relatively safe because it was so busy with tourists ogling and locals going about their business. You do get approached by prostitutes but they're friendly enough when you say no so it wasn't anything that made me feel uncomfortable etc.
The parks and gardens are outstanding. I also enjoyed the reptile house near the airport. The coffee and snacks at Boreal are fantastic and they cater for dietary requirements and speak fluent English too, so I spent a lot of time there.
With all this said, Geneva is worthy of a short weekend city break or enjoying a long layover in, but I wouldn't go out of my way to stay there for longer.

The city on the lake front is beautiful. and so are the botanical gardens. The people are helpful and friendly. The pace of the city is measured. Every public convenience and space is superbly designed.
The airport is a joy. Everything works well and on time. Water can be had from the tap. Food is delicious. Public transport is free if you get a pass. You can jump on to any bus, tram, boat or train within the city at no cost. And you can drive or catch a train to Lausanne or Chamonix within an hour. Not sure of night life, because I had no time nor the inclination. But all in all a wonderful city.

Very nice, clean, green city.
Very nice, clean, green city. With many attractions & great views. Patek Philippe Museum is my favourite. And the stunnig Jet d'eau de Genève, of course. But February isn't the right month. April, probably, will be much more enjoyable.

Public transport- hotel provided a pass that allowed unlimited use of trams, trains, buses and water taxis. City is so easy to get around. People are friendly. It is clean and feels safe. The lake is incredible and the short trip to Mont Saleve was easy and highly memorable. Views are amazing. Eating out was more expensive than expected - very hard to find affordable food for a family and used supermarkets most of the time.
The room was of Ramada standard, that is rather spacious, noise-isolated and clean. The bed was really LARGE and very comfortable. The receptionists were very effective. The hotel is situated out of the city centre noise, some 15 min ride by bus. A shopping centre is in the same building - very-very convenient to buy food on our return in the evening; closed on Sundays, as all shops in Geneva. Train station is one bus stop from the hotel. The hotel provides with free transport tickets for all the stay.
It was very easy getting to and from the airport. Only a 6 min train and it is free on the public transport card you receive from the hotel as part of your city tax. The hotel and rooms were of very hight standard considering the hotel is 40 years old. It does not feel like that and the interior is more like a 5 star hotel than a 4 star. The staff were all very friendly and provided very good service. I will definitely return next time I am in Geneva.
They had excellent email communication before arriving. Photos online were accurate. The location was within walking minutes to the old town. They offered a free transportation pass that allowed you to ride the metro and buses. The eritrean front desk staff woman was phonemomal (nice & helpful). For a single, private room with a bathroom it was a good value in expensive Switzerland.
The staff were friendly especially the check in staffs ; the location was perfect as there is a train stop right in front of the hotel ; the room was great ; and thank you to the government of Switzerland for giving “free transportation ticket “ to all tourist . It is really awesome as it allows tourist to go around free of charge . we don’t mind getting lost at all .
The hotel is at perfect location in Geneva city centre.
When you are in hotel, everything is a few minutes by steps away from you.
All hotel services and staff are excelent, especially Mrs Katalina who gave us the best food advices from their kitchen.
Check-in and check-out procedures are automated and easy to do.
Room bed is wide and comfortable.
The bed was very comfortable and I slept really well. I also really appreciated the access to the business center during my stay. I was able to get some work done.
The hotel is located near a bus stop (1&25). It is easy to get anywhere in Geneva from this bus stop.
I would gladly stay again.
The hotel is in a building that is about 300 years old. It is very updated in a way that emphasizes the charm and style of Old Geneva. It has very interesting modern art from an earlier age decorating the rooms and hallways. It had a breakfast room that served an excellent breakfast.
Geneva Switzerland is not a cheap place. This hotel is centrally located, offers a very inexpensive nice continental breakfast, has nice rooms and all was ok. Just two doors away is a very nice café that had good beer and very cool scene of sophisticated french-speaking locals.
It is probably one of the best hotels in Geneva. The staff is polite and very helpful, everything is clean, there is a great view on the city and the breakfasts are the best ones I ever had in a hotel. Everything you need is available, including even a separate dog menu!
Very modern and clean all round, there is a bus that arrive basically right outside the hotel. Trams can head toward both airport or the city centre. Only 20 min by walk to airport if needed, so good central location to explore Geneva.
I like the friendly staff who is always willing to help me leave my main luggage until I return from my short trips. It’s a very safe place to keep your luggage and travel around Switzerland or any other close destinations
The hotel is very convenient for the water taxi that crosses the lake to the city centre, saving a journey that would involve catching at least twol buses. It is located in a quiet area, not far from Geneva Plage.
The staff was incredibly friendly and planned an entire day in Geneva for us when we asked. They were super knowledgeable about the best food, pubs, and sights. Would 100% stay here again! Thank youHotel Central!
Very well located for a short stopover at Geneva. Near the airport and train station and the bus stop is right next to the hotel so good to visit the city too. Small but well planned rooms. good breakfast.
Hotel Royal was a perfect choice for a weekend getaway in Geneva! The staff was wonderful, the room was very spacious and clean and so comfortable! The location was near everything we wanted to visit
