Tokushima has a lot to offer those who want to get off the beaten track. To enjoy what Tokushima has to offer it helps to have a hire car - great food, very friendly people and an interesting view of Japanese life. Best for those who want to dig a bit deeper - it was our second trip to Japan.
Great restaurants near JR Station
Oysters and whirlpools at Naruto, mega donkey store, cable car, awesome food, round 1, aeon store and just hanging with locals. Lots more to do if you look. Not Japan’s most beautiful city, but it is authentic.

At the time of booking, there was only twin bed smoking room available for two people, so we booked it anyway even we don’t smoke. The room had air-filer system that was running constantly, so there was no smell!! The room was big. It was a bit old style but very clean and the bed was comfortable!

Tokushima is considered small town, not too busy, lots of good food and reachable within walking distance, accessible by ferry, airplane, train and bus. I visited Tokushima on a regular basis every year, took all of the option, but the best perhaps taking ferry to Wakayama...

Tokushima is a very liveable city and easily reached from Osaka by bus over the two bridges and across Awaji island. A beautiful trip. The city centre has improved tremendously and the river walk, with the marina, is well worth a couple of hours. It is a good base to visit Hiwasa and Yakuoji temple, as well as the turtle centre. Also handy for a day trip to Takamatsu and the unmissable Ritsurin garden. I highly recommend the coffee house there for old-fashioned luxury and service.

We enjoyed the Awa Odori dance show and used Tokushima as a base to see indigo dye works and the big pots. Mt. Bisan at sunset was peaceful however the boat ride around the island was disappointing.
There is no commentary and not being Japanese speakers we did not understand the few points of interest raised. The public transport once out of the immediate city does not run very regularly. We also found shopping very limited although there is a large mall which we did not get to.
We loved our stay! The apartment is very clean, bright and comfortable. Shin-san and his wife were wonderful hosts and took care of us above and beyond. The apartment is an easy walk to grocery, some restaurants, and the train. It is also not far from many interesting things to do in Tokushima City. We enjoyed walking to the central area around the main station and Awaodori Kaikan. The breakfast in the coffee shop downstairs was great every day. We would absolutely stay there again!
Honestly is a good hotel like many others, nothing special nothing wrong
Rooms size are generous considering japanese sizes, super clean and beds are comfy
Location is the best possible in Tokushima, exactly above the train and bus station
There are a lots of shops and restaurant near by so no issues or problems at all
Staff is super, they kept my luggage till night after a morning check out and they were kind and friendly
The hotel was nice and had an onsen bath on the top floor. It's right across from the train station. There's a Tully's on the ground floor with plenty of seating and fairly decent coffee. There's also a FamilyMart. Plenty of restaurants nearby and lots of people who look like they're starting the 88 temple pilgrimage. While the large groups made me think it would be crowded, it was not.
This was a perfect business hotel! It is not a luxurious vacation stay but the hard working and polite staff made sure this hotel is clean, comfortable, and stocked with good basic amenities. It is conveniently located next to many restaurants and the University. Staff is friendly, helpful, kind, and readily available. I was very pleased with my stay and it was excellent for the value.
This is the best Daiwa Roynet hotel I have stayed in so far in Japan. The room was small but clean and conveniently located next to the train station. The breakfast buffet was really good and appeared to be a fairly new thing. We had a room on the top floor which had a bit of a view over the city.
Just a few minutes away from Tokushima Station and the bus interchange on foot, this hotel has a great location for anyone planning in using the (bizarrely slow) public transport there. It has a microwave for guests, although placing it on the first floor near reception was unusual.
we really liked the separation of the bedroom and living room area.
Quiet, it was located in the middle of the city so it was easy to go shopping for little things. There is a 100yen shop nearby, Matsunoya restaurant right next to the hotel which was great for simple breakfast.
Stand alone hotel on top of a hill overlooking Tokushima city. No traffic, it is a kind of nature reserve. I had a huge tatami room with panoramic windows. Very nice public bath. The room did have a private bathroom but no shower - Ryokan style.
Beautiful and very comfortable house with lots of nice touches, from kitchen supplies to examples of Tokushima crafts and even electric bikes for getting around. The owner was absolutely lovely and made my stay very special, thank you.
Location was the main thing we liked about this hotel - right beside Tokushima Station. The onsite parking building was also very convenient. We got a room that had a good view of the plaza in front of the station, which was also good.
The location couldn’t be more perfect for anyone who travels with public transport. Both a train station and bus stations are right in front of the hotel! We also loved the Cafe Dining Clement, definitely try their menu.
The views from this hotel are amazing, and worth the drive up the mountain to stay here. It's only about 2km up. It's about 15 min into town if you drive. . And hundreds of birds fly around at sunset!
If you are a henro, it is a nice walk along the river to the hotel. It is a mix of park and interesting bridges and boat watching. The breakfast buffet has a charming river view and is very good
We ended up staying a few nights and enjoyed it a lot. It is a great choice for pilgrims and Tokushima/surrounding-explorers. We liked the staff. The price was very good, including breakfast.
Nothing to complain about at this price. The lounge was warm and cosy, a great place to hang out.
Parking is easy, just around the corner. There's even a discount voucher from the hotel.
Spacious rooms with a big window facing the river. They also offered free parking. The hotel was also right across from a Lawsons. Very comfortable stay.
