We stayed in their larger facility which is basically a whole house detached from their other rooms, lounge, and reception area. This is a wonderful two story residence with a full kitchen, two bathrooms, and areas to lounge. It is located in a market area of a covered street that is easy to access but quiet.
We enjoyed walks around the city (esp. down to the lake) and trying out local restaurants where we got to have some fun communicating with a very good-natured local owner. The hotel offers a wonderful breakfast of which we took advantage once during our two night stay. We would encourage anyone booking to take the breakfast as it is very good, but if you are like us you'll also want to reserve a morning or two to try alternates in the area.

The staff is really nice, helped us shipping luggage to the next hotel. Although a bit far from Kyoto, it's easy to reach and the neighborhood is nice.

From my perspective, there wasn't much to do within a mile walk of the property.
Only one restaurant off site in that mile two convenience stores and if you walk a bit further a pretty mellow "redlight" district

Otsu Town seems not beautiful at first sigh.
Otsu Town seems not beautiful at first sigh. But go to have a walk behind the hotel. The countryside is like a Miyazaki movie getting real ! You can go near from there : temples, beach, ski station with incredible view… But with the hotel’s shuttle and the station you have Kyoto, very near, Nara, Osaka a little farther. You’ve got all Kansaï by JR… A good tip : when you go to the station to Shirahige shrine, don’t take bus but walk with GPS. The way is just incredible with village, other shrines so quiet and monkey looking at you from the forest behind rice fields…

Otsu, located near Kyoto, is another treasure place in Japan. Faced to Biwa lake it has many historical monument and cultural hotspots. In summer the big firework event is so famous to attract many people. In Biwako Hall many world class concerts and plays are performed. Local fishes and sakes are another charm for visitors. Once you come here you cannot help missing this unforgettable city.

At first I thought I might be bored but there’s so much to do! It’s a little difficult to travel from place to place; lots of walking. But there’s lots of history, friendly people, and beautiful nature.

Otsu is a great location to get away from the city life of Japan. It is quite peaceful here and is located next to a large lake (lake biwa) which is perfect for fishing enthusiasts. Overall, this location is clean and quiet, different from the bustling cities of Japan and i would recommend this place to those who enjoy a scenic walk and a calm environment.

Beautiful spot near the lake.
Beautiful spot near the lake. Perfect for those that want to stay a little out of the hustle and bussle, in perhaps a bigger / better value for money hotel, but still within close proximity to Kyoto.
Good capsule with newer style capsules, a large-ish lounge to eat and drink and do whatever that also has many modern manga (I like pre 1980s ones myself), location right at the station is my favorite so no getting lost. Best part is that the clientele were all Japanese and know the drill, so no common problems of capsules in places like Tokyo and Osaka with usually foreigners making loud noise/talking or watching phone without headphones in the capsules, leaving giant luggage in the corridor, making a general mess…
Everything. The service provided is top notch even though we are using English as a medium of speak. The room is spacious and the bath provided is just so good. Since we're ordering Halal menu set, I would say the menu is fantastic as it includes seafood, beef and chicken which is hard to find for halal option here. The shuttle service also is quite helpful as there is no medium of transportation to the Ryoukan from the station and a mobile phone is provided to contact them at the station.
Check in was right on time and shuttle pickup was smooth- journey took about 5 min from ogotoonsen station. We requested for halal meals and were very pleased with the array of traditional Japanese cuisine for dinner and breakfast. The private bath in the room was great too with a beautiful view of the lake. We loved the tatami and futon prepared carefully and the facial wash, toner and moisturiser included in the toiletries 🥰
The hotel is only 100 meters from Seta station. the staffs are very friendly & helpful. i ask the supervisor to make a reservation for dinner & the supervisor voluntarily brought us personally to the restraurant, Tell the owner we don’t speak Japanese & explain to us how to order. their housekeeping fid a very good job in keeping the room sparkling clean. they deserve more than the maximum stars allowable.
The included breakfast and dinner was a delicious, visually amazing traditional Japanese spread. This place is a must for anyone wishing to get the authentic ryokan experience, though you have to be willing to step out of your comfort zone a bit to wear the provided yukata and go to the public bath. Easy transit to Kyoto means you can stay outside the city on your visit.
The Koke Musu Inn was by far my favorite place to stay during a two week trip to Japan. The house is decorated in a way that was deeply creative and quirky. The room was extremely cozy and well equipped. Best of all, our host was so kind and accommodating. I will be staying here the next time I’m anywhere near Kyoto! I wish I was here for the entire trip.
All staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. There are both indoor and outdoor onsen. There are 2 outdoor onsen which change daily for female or male usage ( signs are in English as well as Japanese) Food is served in the restaurant and was delicious and wonderfully presented.
I have stayed at many ryokans and this was one of my best experiences.
This place is run by a very helpful Japanese couple. It's spacious, accommodating, clean, affordable and conveniently located for exploring southern lake Biwa. You can order breakfast to start your day, and they even included delicious homemade dessert on our last morning there. They also gave us great advice on the best places to visit.
The staff were super friendly and helpful and the guy owning the cafe downstairs plays really nicely the piano. The kitchen is beautiful and has a relaxed atmosphere, and I especially liked the Sento (Japanese bathing house). Oh and of course, the beach is almost in front of the hostel!
The view is excellent and they offer free shuttle from the hotel to train station.
The lobby and the restaurant are spacious and well designed.
The price is much lower than Kyoto city while it only takes 15min driving or 20min public transportation to the Kyoto station.
the hotel was immaculate, everything is what you would expect from a comfortable, clean and luxury onsen hotel. the staffs are extremely polite, well mannered and attentive. Food was excellent, would highly recommend especially for families with young kids.
They had a selection of hot springs baths, segregated by gender, as well as private baths to be rented by the hour. I used both types. Bliss!
Also, the breakfast was outstanding! A wonderful selection of Japanese cuisine.
Very friendly staff, always happy to oblige. Beautiful large room with spectacular lake view. We ate in the Italian and Garden buffet restaurants, food in both was fabulous if a little pricey by Japanese standards.
The hotel is great and clean.
I like all staffs, they all are very nice and friendly. They recommended the locol good restaurants and shops to me. i was very happy, and had a good experience. i will come again.
Spacious room with lake view, comfortable bed, and onsen.
The location was most convenient and the shuttle bus was also a great help. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. I like this hotel a lot.
Fantastic view - reason to stay - great panorama because of huge windows, clean and spacious rooms. Free parking. Hotel is located next to Lake Biwa. We enjoyed the breakfast - Western and Japanese style.
Living in a historical Japanese style house. It’s really relaxing and comfortable. And the staffs are super friendly, also the breakfast is very delicious!!
