The staff was really friendly and welcoming. We were given an introduction of the area, along with a map of restaurants and places to visit. The rooms were lovely, big and comfortable. Would definitely recommend!

From my perspective, there wasn't much to do within a mile walk of the property.
Only one restaurant off site in that mile two convenience stores and if you walk a bit further a pretty mellow "redlight" district

Otsu Town seems not beautiful at first sigh.
Otsu Town seems not beautiful at first sigh. But go to have a walk behind the hotel. The countryside is like a Miyazaki movie getting real ! You can go near from there : temples, beach, ski station with incredible view… But with the hotel’s shuttle and the station you have Kyoto, very near, Nara, Osaka a little farther. You’ve got all Kansaï by JR… A good tip : when you go to the station to Shirahige shrine, don’t take bus but walk with GPS. The way is just incredible with village, other shrines so quiet and monkey looking at you from the forest behind rice fields…

Otsu, located near Kyoto, is another treasure place in Japan. Faced to Biwa lake it has many historical monument and cultural hotspots. In summer the big firework event is so famous to attract many people. In Biwako Hall many world class concerts and plays are performed. Local fishes and sakes are another charm for visitors. Once you come here you cannot help missing this unforgettable city.

At first I thought I might be bored but there’s so much to do! It’s a little difficult to travel from place to place; lots of walking. But there’s lots of history, friendly people, and beautiful nature.

Otsu is a great location to get away from the city life of Japan. It is quite peaceful here and is located next to a large lake (lake biwa) which is perfect for fishing enthusiasts. Overall, this location is clean and quiet, different from the bustling cities of Japan and i would recommend this place to those who enjoy a scenic walk and a calm environment.

Beautiful spot near the lake.
Beautiful spot near the lake. Perfect for those that want to stay a little out of the hustle and bussle, in perhaps a bigger / better value for money hotel, but still within close proximity to Kyoto.
The lake view was great! The windows really provided a beautiful view of the entire area - it was pretty much the entire reason we decided to stay here.
Room was huge! Reasonably big bathroom for Japan, ample space for luggage, TV, additional sofa, seats, everything you need is pretty much provided. We also appreciate the bath salt provided!
The hotel is a little off the main road, but there is a supermarket, and a 7-11, familymart, and some restaurants a good 7 - 12mins walk away, so that's not too bad.
This was our first experience with an Onsen (and first trip to Japan). We paid extra for the deluxe room with an en-suite Onsen bath and it was AWESOME! The room comes with dinner and breakfast, both were excellent and it was fun to get dressed up in the traditional Japanese clothing (provided by hotel).
Everything was better than expected/pictured online, very happy to have selected this property.
The included breakfast and dinner was a delicious, visually amazing traditional Japanese spread. This place is a must for anyone wishing to get the authentic ryokan experience, though you have to be willing to step out of your comfort zone a bit to wear the provided yukata and go to the public bath. Easy transit to Kyoto means you can stay outside the city on your visit.
We like how the beds were elevated , so we could put our luggages underneath the bed frame. That gives much more space to walk around in the room. The bathroom size is bigger than most Japanese hotel. Which is good 👍 maybe it is because we booked a triple room also. Not sure a standard room comes with same size of bathroom or not.
Accomodating, amazing helpful staff. They booked a reservation at a brilliant local restaurant for us and helped us when we couldn't work out the lock for the front door!
The room surpassed our expectations - photos do not do this place justice!
The Japanese bath was lovely!
Breakfast and dinner were just amazing, it was like a 5-stars hotel, if not more! Staff was incredibly nice as it's often the case in Japan. The interior of the building is so nice, the room as well. I was sold. I already booked my next stay there in a couple of months!
The innkeeper is an artist and she acts as your surrogate mother while you are here. Be sure to ask for room 203 which is set up as a traditional Japanese living room. She and her husband got up in the middle of the night to see me off. I couldn't recommend more highly.
very clean Lovely hotel
helpful staff
loved all the onsens
delicious meals... didn't expect the 7+ course dinner! :)
large and very comfortable beds
great large rooms with all the amenities -- they even provided some snacks in the rooms!
Very friendly staff, speak English and booked a very good izakaya at walking distance for dinner. Old typical Japanese house very well renovated with a nice garden. Room very comfortable. Public parking in front of the house.
Great location closed to Biwa lake, free shuttle bus service from and to the train station, super clean, comfy, spacious room with a beautiful view of the lake and the sunrise. Nice breakfast buffet and helpful staff.
It was very nice to stay in a real Japanese house. It was well outfitted and very clean with many amenities. It was a little hard to find in the dark. Hostess was very friendly and communicative
