The rooms were freezing cold no heating and it was -5 inside the hotel. They provided us with one thin blanket nothing like advertised, the windows were open and unable to close. We are having to seek medical help as one of my friends has developed hypothermia. No food no drink and the toilet facility does not flush.
Said in advert the beds would be made up for us. After a vicious scolding by the owners wife we had to awkwardly make up our own beds with no instructions at all.
If you like being shouted at, sleeping on a solid cold floor with a stone for a pillow this is definitely the place for you.
Didn't really wanna even give the one star but no choice for 0*.

Nikko is a lovely small place.
Nikko is a lovely small place. The local Chinese on the high street has amazing food, it has a very small door and would be easy to miss, but make the effort to find it.
The temples are amazing, but I loved the mountains, if you like trekking then you will love Nikko.

Fabulous place to visit with the right balance between nature walks and temple and shrine visits. Our favorite visits were Toshogu and Rinno-ji Temples, a day trip to Chuzenji Lake and Kegon Falls with a walk towards the Italian and English Embassy residences was beautiful. If you still have time, the Imperial Tomozawa Villa is worth spending a couple of hours at. We did everything by bus and it was very well organised. Train station has convenient coin lockers for luggage and a Yamato counter to deliver your luggage at your hotel so you can start visiting without being troubled.

i loved the variety of hiking trails - there was no shortage of beautiful nature. there are populated trails and quieter trails, and the bus service was very convenient once i got the hang of it. while the shrines were pretty enough, i preferred the rinnoji shrine gardens and would have preferred to spend more time hiking instead of fighting with the crowds at toshugu shrine. senjogahara was stunning and i would have liked to spend more time at the yumoto and kirifuri trails.
october was a little early for autumn leaves, so maybe i will return later in the year next time. that said, it was a pity i just missed the shrine festival this year!

While there is the Nikko bus, it is better for a group of 4 to rent a car from Nippon rent-a-car.
Explore the supermarkets to get cheap fruits, vegetables, fish, snacks etc.
Akebi onsen is awesomein a beautiful forest garden.
Kegon waterfall and lake Chuzenji is breathtaking. There are hotels up there but be prepared for colder weather. Ice forms at night.
Weather is an important factor. Might get foggy or even rain. But beautiful skies when clear.
Cross the different bridges and hike up the hills along the river.

Wandering around the Nikko area
Wandering around the Nikko area
We found a place gluten free place to eat for my daughter as she is coeliac and there are not many places in Japan that cater to her food allergies.
Very easy to get around Nikko. Plenty of buses.
Hotel’s shuttle bus is provided to/from train station which is very convenient. The staff are very helpful, and polite. Hotel is very near Nikko Heritage area just a minute walk. The room is provided all amenities you need, big room, clean with beautiful mountain view. Live piano play at the lobby at 8pm every night. We stayed 3 days and we enjoyed great experience of yummy breakfast and dinner which the menu was changed every days. We loved onsen very much and there are 4 onsen available for lady (3 outdoors and 1 indoor).
Nice place for staying in Nikko:
- Great location near of famous Shinkyo Bridge and on the main street. 15 minutes walk from the railway station, bus stop in few meters near of the hotel.
- Spacious and cozy room in tradition japanese style.
- Tea, coffe and buns for breakfast in the room.
- Comfortable onsen on the first floor.
- Traditional japanese clothes and cups for tea.
- You can leave your luggage on the reception desk before check-in and after check-out.
- Polite and caring staff.
From the restaurant to the hot spring baths, this hotel offers definitely a memorable stay you are visiting Nikko
- Every staff member were delightful and eager to help. They all go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable.
- The amenities were great (really enjoyed the onsen).
- Great location to visit the temple area
- Outstanding dinner and breakfast were served
Such and amazing experience. We will definitely recommend. Thank you! 🙏
Yoshi, the host was particulary friendly and helpful . He organized for me booking in restaurant and onsen and gave me a lot of precious informations , helped me for for the bagage room in the station and so on; I recommande this adress . And have already given this adress to friends of mine who will return in Japan in october !! Will located in Nikko, very near the station
the Ryokan is situated in a beautiful area, an unexpectedly scenic drive from Nikko on the shuttle bus up into the mountains then beside a lake to the hotel. The end of November too late for autumn colour but this made for a lovely view through the trees to the lake and mountains behind from our bath on the verandah and the public onsen. Very relaxing!
This was the best stay we had in Japan, and we stayed at the Hilton in Tokyo for comparison. Izumi-San is a wonderful host. He was exceptionally helpful in helping us understand the bus system and picked us up and dropped us off at Tobu- Nikko railway station. The rooms are Japanese style and the breakfast is fresh and delicious. Highly recommended!
The hotel is great value overall. The experience takes you back to old times in Japan, with traditional interior design, food and everything. The buffet exceeded my expectation! They have many varieties and the quality is constantly good. It is a great value for the price and the best in the area, well strongly recommend.
Really loved my stay here! Not a new and shiny capsule hotel, but well-kept and lovely vibe. Incredibly convenient with station proximity. The staff were very helpful when I needed to find a pharmacy. I’ve lived in Japan before but never been to Nikkō, and this hotel made it a great experience.
It has fusion of dormitory and Regular hotel amenities.
The capsule room is spacious, love the library, lounge in 3F and public onsen. It has great view of Chuzenji lake at the lounge.
I love staying in the hammock while having a coffee or reading.
Best dormitory experience I had in Japan.
The hotel is located next to the Chuzenji Lake and the walking trail. The bus stop (from/to Nikko) is just right at doorstep of the hotel. The foods are all great and staffs are so nice. The onsen is quite small but it’s ok for me.
The room was very spacious for a Japanese hotel, with a full length bathtub in the room. The public bathing facilities were wonderful, well-kept, and spacious. The breakfast buffet had a lot of good options and was fantastic.
Mike and his lovely wife were not only the best hosts imaginable, they also have a charming hotel situated at the literal best location in Nikkō.
Their little bar and restaurant was also very good.
Highly recommend!
Simple hotel with simple comfort. The rooms on the upper floor have integrated bathrooms. It is well located close to the centre. For those seeking a simple and cheaper sleep over in Nikko, go for it.
Nice hotel located a little outside of Nikko. Walking distance to the World Heritage site (ca. 2 km) and to the town (1.9 km). To reach the hotel with luggage a taxi is recommended (uphill walk).
