the tourist train from Kochi is higly recommended, it is better to self driving for visiting Kochi as we found that the schedule of bus travelling around is limited and not too frequet , it would be great if there is more bike rental shop as we visited a little area Tosa and we found that there was no rental shop for bicycles , so disappointed.

Probably very frequently overlooked city in Shikoku, it was definitely worth a visit. Firstly, the city center is very walkable, of course, the main highlight of the city is the castle. It is one of the smaller castles in the country, but the surrounding grounds are open to public 24 hours a day, which, of course, gave me an option to visit it during a nice early morning weather, without the crowds and everything connected with them.
There are other places I wanted to see, but the Kochi Prefectural Makino Botanical Garden was definitely one of the spots I could not miss. Really a beautiful place, which would be even more nice if the sakura blossom forecast was a bit more accurate.
I missed a visit of Shikoku Automobile museum, but there are only some things a man can do in one full day of visit. Next time.

Kochi is a fantastic city, and the only problem I have is the difficulty in getting there. But once you arrive, it's a wonderful small city. Kochi boasts a wonderful castle where you can get a great tour of the history of the Kochi area. On the east side of the city there is a really nice botanical garden inspired by one of Japan's most famous botanists. And the Katsuharama Beach just to the south of the garden is a wonderful location for a stroll, and it has an especially nice sunset. And after a long day, there is no place better for dinner than the Hirome Market. At this market, the entire city comes together for the local seafood of Kochi. If you want to try the local specialty of seared bonito while chatting with the locals, this is the place to do so.
Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to explore anything further away from the city but I would love to come back to explore the rest of Kochi prefecture.

You can visit all the places that are recommended to you in a day but that is only the start. Go to the Information Centre outside the train station. They offer free bicycle hire. They were the most helpful people ever.

I went to Kochi as it’s Ryoma Sakamoto’s birth place, we were able to see everything that I planned. The 商店街 Shopping street was interesting and we went there every day for coffee. There are plenty of restaurants near the hotel. The hotel is close to the station, it’s only a 5min walk. Kochi has a tram system that runs through the centre of town which is only about a 3 minute walk from the hotel, so it’s very easy to get around. The bus stop is about a 1 min walk from the hotel and we caught the bus to Katsurahama beach, were the Ryoma Sakamoto statue is, it’s worth going there.
Perfect for short stays, it may be even better for longer stays as well. Perfectly taken care off, extremely clean and full of amenities, it offers entertainment and relax in complete privacy and relax. Room service is excellent and fast, easy to order even using English. the parking lot is easy to access and n case of need guarantee a shield to hide the car's plate. Easy check in with a reservation, and anonymous check in without reservation. Also the breakfast was excellent, and snacks and meals offered good and well prepared.
This hotel was in a fantastic location for the Kochi Marathon. it is also easy walking distance to shops, restaurants and Kochi castle. The rooms are TINY! Coming from Australia it was a bit of an adjustment, only one of us could open our suitcase at a time. They were very clean and comfortable and had private bathrooms.
The breakfast area was really nice, like being in a coffee shop, and the staff were very helpful. they even opened for breakfast a little early for me on race day - thank you!
The guest house is very comfortable and welcoming! It is located near bus station and around 10mins walk to Kochi train station, so it is very convenient. The common area and rooms are maintained well (very new) and very clean. Most importantly, the staffs and owners are very friendly and kind! I had enjoyed my four nights stay here a lot and meet many great people! :) Highly recommend to travellers who visit Kochi!
The hotel had a classic “retro” vibe and the view of the city was very nice, especially the sunrise in the morning! We felt right at home and appreciated the friendliness of the staff. We were able to check in slightly earlier than the standard time, and we were glad we could park our car conveniently just downstairs.
Good sized room, bigger than expected. We had three people and had booked a room with two double beds, but the staff had a third bed put out for us. Was really nice of them! Bathtub was huge, and the room had a small outdoor garden. Really impressed with the quality of everything for the price. Great location as well.
This ryokan is a bit off the path around Kochi but the main reason for the stay was the onsen, which more than met the expectations as listed on their website. The onsen had so many places to sit and enjoy the hot springs water, and the quality of the water was great (hot with a lot of dissolved minerals).
The room is big and comfortable, and its design is distinctive and convenient.
The staff is kind when I raise to store my luggage temporarily.
The location of this hotel is perfectly good. It took me 4-5 minutes to get to hotel from Kochi station.
The breakfast in this hotel is fabulous! We can enjoy the local foods well cooked. The location is close to HIROME Market where you can take various local foods. I strongly recommend you to stay here when you come to Kochi.
Nice reception staff. In particular, a young Nishimori San, was enthusiastic and attentive to my need for reading light, etc... I am most grateful to him. I stayed 3nights. Hotel is very near to station, a 3min-5min walk.
Had private room. Amazing they can make such a small space feel super modern, spacious and chill. Clean. Well-equipped. Good price. Convenient location. Good communication. I was passing through on pilgrimage.
The hotel is located on the 'main' street of Kochi near the castle and entertainment district. The rooms are quite large and there's very little street noise inside the room.
* Free breakfast.
* Plenty of complimentary tea/coffee etc.
* USB socket at the side of the bed.
* Spacious room in comparison with other similar hotel facilities.
