Often overlooked in favour of its neighbour, Osaka, Kobe is an absolute gem of a city. It has a multitude of attractions, from the port and harbourside parks to the wonderful Nunobiki herb garden and hillside hikes on the other side of the city, to the old foreign merchants houses in Kitano Ijinkan-gai and the Motomachi and Sannomiya entertainment and shopping areas, there's a huge amount to see and do in Kobe. We gorged ourselves on amazing food, saw historic houses, enjoyed walking through nature, enjoyed food markets and took a harbourside tour. Bakery RIKI near our accommodation in Motomachi sold the most amazing pastries and Nankin-machi (Chinatown) had a wonderful, crowded, hectic atmosphere with hundreds of stalls selling cheap, absolutely delicious food. We will definitely visit Kobe again.

The availability of the shuttle bus to Sannomiya was extremely helpful and it ran frequently that we could accomplish what we wanted. The 30th floor dining area was simply wonderful. It had a beautiful view and selection of food and drinks were great.

i travel to kobe for work regularly and usually don't do much sight seeing there; it is easy to find my way around, find restaurants and there is easy access to all sorts of places to visit in the kansai area; once we stayed at the outskirts of kobe, up the mountains, with stunning views of the harbour (private accommodation, sadly gone now) but there are some other nice places to stay in and around the city

Kobe has a long history as a port town.
Kobe has a long history as a port town. If you come to Osaka or Kyoto, you should also visit Kobe. You will feel the atmosphere and characteristics of a sophisticated city that is completely different from these two. Compared to these two cities, Kobe has wider sidewalks and more walkable areas, but the city as a whole is compact and easy to get around. If you stay in Kobe, I highly recommend a hotel with a night view of the port city.

We stayed in Kobe three days during this Japan tour - it was just enough to enjoy the city (Chinatown, the covered market streets, the port area, the 'foreigner's area', and a nice small treck along mount Rokko waterfalls and gardens. Kobe is a medium size city, not overwhelming and easy to visit by foot.
It was probably the best accommodation (among hostels) I stayed in Japan. It’s squeaky clean, comfy, and very quiet at night. I was very tired after an early flight hustle, but I slept for around 14 hours without interruption. The staff is Japanese but he speaks very good English. He was so friendly and sociable that we also had a small chat about my country that he had visited long ago.
Nice seaside view. Modern rooms. Breakfast was delicious: Japanese and European. Good coffee.
There is a shuttle bus a view times per day to Sannomiya:)
And there is an excellent restaurant/coffee in the lobby area. Loved the "kaze fukuro = Windbeutel".
In the 35. floor we got an excellent Kobebeef-Menu. Very friendly English speaking cook.
Don't miss it!
Japanese-style breakfast buffet. Great location to reach Sannomiya station! (So close that you may hear the trains at night, but I didn't particularly mind.) Nice to have a small bathtub and fancy Japanese toilet. There were pyjamas you could borrow, slippers that you could take with you, and an all-you-can-read manga service in the hotel network.
My room was spacious and well-equipped, and the bed was very comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful, and breakfasy offers a good selection of Japanese and western item + a great view! There is a public bath and sauna for guests to use, which was a real treat too. I will definitely stay here again on my next trip to Kobe.
Very nice breakfast even if the room was busy but with nice views on the city as on the 17th floor. Staff were friendly and welcoming and we had great advice towards restaurants. Very nice and charming Japanese style decoration all around the hotel. Complimentary good mini bar.
Good location, near the Kobe train station and close to the Harbor. The room is good and standard of Japanese business hotels. Overall it is quiet, except for the occasional noise of the train which wasn't too bad. Very polite and helpful staff!
Very near the sannomiya station connecting almost all the major railway lines…restaurants and other amenities just a few step near and one of the oldest temples in japan is just opposite the hotel…rooms are quiet big and clean and comfortable
The staff were friendly and the hotel was clean. The rooms were quiet and the beds were comfy. Nice big rooms too which are unusual in Japan. The hotel is a short (covered) walk from the Portliner train and they do have a shuttle bus too.
Spacious room which is usual for Japanese Hotel rooms and great for a toddler to explore around. Nice location close to Sannomiya overlooking the Ikuta-Jinja shrine next door. Hotel staff were helpful and hotel itself clean and tidy.
The service was extraordinary! The amenities fit our travel parties' needs of having both Western and Japanese options for beds; the meals (breakfast and kaiseki dinners) were tremendous, especially with our wonderful host!
Location was close to where you will spend most of your time while visiting Kobe, the rooms were the biggest I have had in Japan and they were very nice. Definetely recommend this place for a high quality room!
The interesting interpretation that Japan has of what an English hotel is. For the rest it is Japanese cleanliness and organization. It is in the middle of one of the most diverse culinary districts of Kobe.
A good hotel to stay in Kobe . Next to Shinkansen station & close to walks in the hills behind Kobe . The buffet breakfast was better then others we have had in Japan .
The hotel was built in the middle of the shopping street, good price and delicious breakfast very traditional Japanese food with New Year’s mochi soup 🥰😋
