I really enjoyed the hot springs! I went to Hyotan Onsen and did the hot springs and sand bath. the sand bath was a little underwhelming but the hot springs was perfect! there was also a waterfall bath which was a nice experience. the sand bath was a "do it yourself" situation where you dig a hole and cover yourself. it was nice; i recall i fell asleep. It was a little underwhelming; i would do just the hot springs again though! Also, the sand bath area was kind of small and co-ed, 7-8 rows and probably fit 4 people per row. Other than that, Hyotan had a dining restaurant and tried the cold ramen; refreshing after a nice hot dip! Getting around Beppu was easy for me. i was mostly around just the hot spring area and the area of the 7 devil hot springs (which i ran out of time and did not get to do all but was happy i got to do at least 5). the area was also kind of hilly... so one may be walking uphill a bit but no big deal, not a steep incline. Overall, Beppu was a great experience and I would come back for the hot springs as it's what the town is known for!

There are only 8 Hells of Beppu to visit. 1-2 days is just right. Plenty of good restaurants in town. Michelin Guide restaurant called "Arabata" is highly recommended. They serve the best beef in town and the price is reasonable!

Beppu is one of the smallest cities I've visited in Japan.
Beppu is one of the smallest cities I've visited in Japan. Surprisingly, many people here speak English due to frequent interactions with non-Japanese visitors. The city is famous for its hot springs, boasting numerous traditional Japanese onsen. During winter, the city takes on a magical and mysterious ambiance due to the steam and mist enveloping it. The locals are friendly and very helpful. While getting around by bus is convenient, taking a walk through the city of spirits is an experience one should miss.

2 days stay is just nice.
2 days stay is just nice.
One day bus tour to Hell Tour on your own. Don’t buy package admission fee yen 2000 /pax is too expensive, not worthwhile as we did not finish all the tours.
Afternoon can visit the Beppu Garden Park , only 2-3 bus stops from JR station. Same bus as you take to Hell Tour.
Day 2, same bus to Ropeway. Actually can go there after the hell tour but check your bus timing back. We missed it as we have no time.

Japan like it used to be .
Japan like it used to be . Old style buildings and alleyway's with
Red light/ restaurants district. Heaps of small restaurants with owner chefs and more up market modern restaurants. Some great coffee shops to find. Route 10 is a great Pub. Recommend staying in Beppu a few days and getting Bus to Yufuin for the day. Yufuin is crowded. ( More cheaper restaurants in Beppu for nights)

We stayed in Amane Resort Sekai with a fantastic private onsen. It is an infinite experience for me and my daughter. The most astonishing was we could enjoy the sunrise from our room's verandah and look at the cruise ship sailing for docking at the harbor just "next door" from the hotel.
We enjoyed the ramen halal sold in a small shop and went for gift shopping in the big supermarket near the shop.
Enjoying Beppu by walking from the Beppu Station via Beppu Park to B-con Plaza during autumn is an unforgettable memory.
This hotel is great. It is located right next to Beppu Station, that's really convenient for sightseeing. Also there is a lot of small restaurants around the place. You can choose your own pillow during check-in. Onsen for women is small, but it was pretty and clean, also there were 5 treatments for women to choose from every day and I loved their moisturizing face mask. Really good quality. Room was small, but really nice.
I went to the hotel by a 10-minute walk from Beppu station. There is 24 hours convenient store just in front of the hotel. The hotel and the room were super clean, staff were so nice. Checkin/out process is quick. The location is very close to the bus center to other cities, but I did not use those bus, so I am not sure about it. The onsen was amazing! There is indoor and outdoor onsens on 2nd floor, both are just great.
I had a large Japanese style room with futon. Cozy, clean, modern & comfy. No bed, but mattress & blanket were comfortable. Very good location & wifi. Near bus stop & ten minute walk from Beppu station. Shops and restaurants are around. Modern common area with big kitchen and facilities to use. Nice Onsen on site to use freely. A true Japanese stay. Friendly & helpful staff. Great value.
In the heart of Kannawa district, perfect for visiting the Hell ponds of Beppu or enjoying a nighttime onsen. Accessible hot spring bath and sauna on the ground floor of the hotel. Bonus : you het to experience as you wish the "hell steam cooking" (jigokumushi) from a free access kitchen in front of the hotel with three steam ovens. A great experience at a very friendly price
This is a beautiful peaceful place to stay with private onsen baths in each room. The staff were excellent. I highly recommend a stay here as it's an oasis of calm to relax. The rooms are all well equipped with everything you would need during your stay. The hotel provided a shuttle for us back to Beppu train station which was very convenient.
If you want to experience a traditional Japanese hotel (Ryokan) in Oita prefecture this is the place to stay!
Room is big, clean and has a perfect view of Beppu city.
Very good breakfast and dinner (served in the room).
Private parking available.
The possibility to book the private onsen for 50 minutes was the cherry on the cake.
The location is good, the hotel is very near from Beppu station. Hotel offers "Onset set" so that we can go different onsen in the city. The breakfast was simple but good for the price. Attention when you go to Onsen in the city, choose those with shower otherwise you wash yourself in a very traditional way (don't ask me how I know).
Convenient location just a short walk from Beppu station. The hotel has a lovely old-fashioned atmosphere which matches the city itself. The onsen in the hotel is also really good, and the breakfast was absolutely delicious, with a fantastic view. Very friendly staff too. Overall I highly recommend it.
Owner was very gracious and made us feel welcomed throughout the stay. We were able to communicate well despite some language barrier. Hotel has an onsen which guest can reserve a private timeslot. Location was perfect. If you drive, parking is complimentary in a nearby parking space.
Close to the Beppu train station. A few mins walk over. It is a very modern design and built hotel come with onsen near the top floor. Also a roof top swimming pool. Nice new modern room, good size and clean facilities. Buffer was great with many selections of food choices.
Awesome in-room Japanese style breakfast and dinner with a variety of courses. Kind staff that would chat with us and share travel tips. There is shuttle bus service between hotel and the JR station within designated time. There is an indoor onsen tub in every house.
The owners are super hospitable.
Room is unexpectedly big n house is well maintained for its age. Must mention the public onsen opposite is simple n clean, charging only ¥100/entry.
Very glad that I chose Sakichi guesthouse instead of a modern hotel.
very authentic and beautiful space, walkable around Beppu and close to train station. beautiful peaceful outdoor onsen and I really loved getting to pick out and wear the traditional yukata, such a lovely experience, also the breakfast was delicious
Really Love this place. Comfortable room with private onsen and very helpful staff. Free car parking as requested. Location is great, located near various Jigoku within walking distance. Nice place to stay in Beppu.
Stylish hotel with many art pieces. Big & super clean room with great view of Beppu City. In-room private onsen which connects to own terrace. Welcoming staff. Excellent food (a la carte menu).
Miho-san provided an excellent onsen steamed-egg for breakfast. The location was very central and walkable to five of the seven Beppu Hells. Miho-san was very enthusiastic, helpful, and kind.
wonderful meals!
nice seaview from room where you could enjoy sunrise if there are less cloud :p
there is a bus opposite to the hotel that can bring you to those famous Beppu onsens :)
We loved the onsen! So nice. The room was very comfortable and had a nice view of Beppu. This hotel is in a great location, just a short drive to other spas!
