All the sites were wonderful - Sigiriya (the rock), Dambulla Caves (Amazing - especially cave #2), Polonnaruwa (Ancient City), Elephant Safari saw 40 to 50 elephants - Mothers and their children on a ridge at the very end of the safari! It was a great day to be able to see that many in the game reserve all together. I would spend minimum 3 but really 4 nights up here as the travel day really doesn't count because you aren't running out to see anything until the next day, so this way you have 3 full days to see all the sites and it isn't rushed. Also, you go out early in the morning as it gets too bloody hot in the middle of the day.

Dambulla is a great place to explore, especially if you are a nature lover. Lots of greenery is preserved amidst the cave temples. Frescos at the Dambulla cave temple are amazingly beautiful. Inside the caves are cold though the outside temperature is steaming hot in the summer.
Sigiriya rock is another attraction near Dambulla. It will take a half a day tour to climb up and down but if you want to explore more, the area surrounding the Sigiriya rock garden is vast and can wonder around the rock garden and historical ruins for hours. Good for hikers.
Ibbankatuwa ancient grave yard, Pidurangala (A rock with nice view at the top, situated parallel to Sigiriya Rock are some of other nearby attractions.

First of all we would like to thank the owner and the management for giving us the opportunity to stay at this beautiful resort.
Colin and Ajit did a wonderful job of looking after us
They are hard working, sincere and committed in their work.
Few things that need to be sorted out were the overgrown creeper in the front which is preventing sunlight from entering the front of the house.
Lighting in the room and bathroom need to be brighter. A stronger Wi-Fi would be welcome
Overall an enjoyable stay
Hope to visit again

I was there for two days and the only place we actually enjoyed was sigirya/pidurungala rock which are not even in a city. Tuk tuk drivers are scamming tourist like crazy and there is almost no sidewalk so it makes it very hard or impossible to walk. The golden temple is good to see but I wouldn’t go back. Overall I wouldn’t go back there. I saw it once and that is more than enough. Please note that if places in dambulla carry some religous meaning to you than your opinion might differ.

A centrally located tourist friendly town.
A centrally located tourist friendly town. 65 Km from Anuradhapura, 16 km from Sigiria and Pedurangala, 110 km from Kandy and 65 km from Polonnaruva. Cave temple and golden temples are the main local attractions while nearby Sigiria and Pedurangala provide more adventure, in terms of climbing and view at the top. Plenty of places to eat local food for your taste, just say what and how you like it they will make it. Best places for a rice and curry lunch is on the main roads leading in to town, just outside of town. They serve lunch from noon to two in the afternoon.
The hotel is conveniently located to the main attractions: Cave Temple, mountain Sigirya, mountain Pidurangala, the ancient capital of Polonnaruwa and elephant safari. The hotel is as clean as possible, white sheets, pleasant smell, there is hot water. You can give things away. Very tasty and large breakfast, you can also dine here. The owner and staff are extremely friendly. Felt at home. The best value for money hotel in Sri Lanka. Definitely worth staying here at least overnight. Thanks for the hospitality!
This room and bathroom were incredible. The outside bathroom was such a special touch and felt like you were at one with nature. It was such a comfortable room which was a great size and the staff were absolutely incredible. Nilan looked after us like we were his own children and went above and beyond to make us feel at home, we wished we could’ve stayed longer than we did now. We had dinner and breakfast there and it was the best meal we had in Sri Lanka out of our whole holiday!
Perfect place to stay for a few days to explore Dambulla, Sigiyira, go on a safari and polonnaruwa. Booked one night and stayed 3. The breakfast is huge, Sri Lankan and tasty. Good outside but covered hangout place to chill and mingle with other guests. Owner is super friendly, helpful with planning day trips and always willing to help out in whichever way possible. Definitely stay here, unpack a bit and then enjoy the cultural triangle with day trips from here.
We booked Tropical Life very last minute for 1 night and we are so glad we did - it's been the best hotel we've stayed in so far on our Sri Lanka trip! It's excellent value for money, with a lovely pool (which we had sandwiches and chips round!) and rooms with a stunning view. The staff are great and were helpful in organising taxis. The gym is an added bonus! We've already recommended the hotel to others and will continue to do so. Thanks!
We had a great stay at this family run guest house. the family went out of their way to help us with whatever we needed, and the breakfast was fantastic. the property is very peaceful, but still a short walk from the Dambulla main strip. we used their uncles pool on the property next door for a small fee. there’s is a balcony and living area upstairs for the guests to use. I definitely recommend staying here.
We had an absolute brilliant stay! The room and surrounding is great, location to Dambulla caves are walking distance (5 min away). The host family is just amazing! Really feels like they give more that 100% to the place - so many great details in the room and the place. We also had an amazing rice and curry for dinner and also got it vegan which was awesome!
Overall one of the best stays in Sri Lanka!
A great place to stay, very nice room, hot shower, A/C, wifi, everything you need/want. Good location outside of Dambulla town, very close to tourist attractions. Highly recommend this accomodation! Chathuri and her husband Shan are super lovely, very helpful, kind, welcoming. Plus Chathuri makes delicious cakes!!! 10 stars is not enough!!! If you visit Sri Lanka, come here!
The hotel is located in the heart of Dambulla city conveniently close to the Kurunegala-Dambulla road. Rooms were comfortable, clean and spacious. The food was tasty and severed hot and the portions were good and also reasonably priced. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Although it is in the heart of the city very relaxed setup. Overall, its great value for money.
The best member of staff Sugar was awesome, he was willing to help us with everything and always smiling :) we really appreciated him to be there for us. Location of the hotel is great, even though it is situated in centre of Dambulla, the place is calm and quite with lots of trees and palms around pool. Deluxe King room was very comfortable and had fridge.
The room was very clean and the owner very helpful. He brought us to a restaurant with his car and also arranged drinks for us. The dinner was also very nice. For our trips, the owner called one of his friends who is a tuktuk-driver, and he showed us around Pidurangala, Sigiraya, and the temples in Dambulla. We would recommend both hotel and driver.
My stay at Lake Island Home Stay in Dambulla was nothing short of magical. From the moment I arrived until the day I reluctantly departed, I was immersed in a paradise of tranquility and natural beauty. This charming homestay is a hidden gem that offers an authentic Sri Lankan experience like no other.
We stayed one night to visit the cave temple early in the morning. The Dambulla Shan Inn is just a few walking minutes away, so we enjoyed the cave tenple almost alone :) The room was clean, breakfast was really good and the owner was super nice and helpful. Absolutely recommended!
We had a great stay at Sayare Inn. The property is very clean, very quiet and the hosts are just so kind. Thank you very much for everything you’re a lovely family. If you’re looking for a place to stay in Dambulla you should definitely book there.
We were served with passion juice once we reached. Lucky...the hotel manager was so friendly. He help me on my trip plan. He also give some suggestion to it. The hotel just infront of the Dambulla bus station
This hotel has a great location and environment, and the staff are very friendly. The room is also large. And very quiet, if you want to spend the night in Dambulla. This is the best choice.
Swimming pool is quite nice. They made nice cocktails.
Full of greenery.
Room looks nice. Big complex.
Hotel is not in the interior. Also close to Dambulla caves.
Staff is super polite
Its a small hotel conveniently located near the Dambulla rock temple. Its just few minutes away from the temple and the town. Good hotel for a budget traveller for a small stop.
