Machico is so much nicer to stay in than Funchal if you like the quieter more laid back vibe. The shops and restaurants are all good but particular praise must go to all the ladies in Pastelria O Gala who worked tirelessly to keep their customers happy at all times - the Pastel de Natas were simply gorgeous and at EUR1.00 each were superb value. Try O Secreta for a really nice evening meal and don't forget to try the bread in Paderia e Pastelaria Flor de Machico

The apartment was spacious and very comfortable.
The apartment was spacious and very comfortable. The location was great ... within walking distance to the beach and also to the village centre. It is also close to the airport.
The name of the apartment was not very clear. In the small print it has Edifico VIP Baie, but I was looking VIP Paradise Apartments.

A lovely town of just the right size, lively but still calm - it has a lot of good restaurants, various stores etc that make your stay comfier than one in a smaller town, without the crowds of a bigger city which can get overwhelming. Funchal is a short drive away, and it is also a great base for all the trips and hikes especially around the eastern part of the island.
And there is a sandy beach well protected from the waves, so almost everyday is a good day for a swim!

Great place for my vacation.
Great place for my vacation. Quiet town providing all you need - supermarkets, one sand and one rocky beach, starting point for hikes and runners trails. Public buses to east part of the island ad Funchal. Bus to the airport - 5min ride for 1,3 eur. Great!

If you are without a car and want to visit most of the tourist places on Madeira Island you should rather look for a apartment in the Funchal city. That's a town where most of the buses go and you are going to have more time for your trips. The Machico city is also great and beautiful but rather quiet and somewhat local.

Machico is a quiet little place with good restaurants and a relaxed vibe.
Supermarkets and all the normal sevices. Good if you prefer to be out of the hustle bustle of Funchal but only 15 minutes drive away. The East of Madeira has good gentle levada hikes and a super beachside restaurant in Porto da Cruz.
This place was the best we stayed in Madeira. Close to the center, but still quiet. Very comfortable and with nice design. The host was super friendly, he recommended us a very interesting trail run and a couple restaurants to eat. The shared kitchen has everything you need, clean. There is a place you can leave staff so others can pick it up and it won't be wasted. We loved that idea! Room was very comfortable and had enough space.
You can also buy some local handmade products, we got a soap with a really beautiful orange scent 😍
Great location, near Machico, but as others have mentioned you really need a car. I would recommend this anyway as Madeira has so many stunning places. It’s a small space (think hotel room with a small kitchenette), but great for making coffee and breakfast. I actually liked the fact it overlooked the airport, really cool to see the planes taking off and they do not go late into the night. The cafe across the road is great and really handy. Views, like most of Madeira are beautiful.
This is a great place to stay! I highly recommend staying here when going to Machico. The communication with the host is really easy and he is very quick to respond. The location is super nice, in the middle of a cute neighborhood. It's close to the beach (a few minutes walk) supermarkets, bus station and cafes/restaurants. We really felt at home here and would have loved to stay longer if possible. The house had everything we needed (there is even an oven!) and is really clean.
Staff were very friendly, lovely location, great breakfast. Great views. The rooms are a little dated but clean and comfortable. This was the fourth hotel we stayed in in Madeira and it was very enjoyable. Our flight was cancelled and we had to stay another night and booked this as it was near the airport. I would prefer to it to 2 of the more expensive hotels in and near Funchal and would return to this hotel.
Leandro is a great host! We stayed at the flat for our last 2 nights in Madeira and it was the perfect place to relax after we visited all of Madeira and went on lots of hikes. We saw Machico at night and spent a day in Funchal while we were there. The airport is within walking distance (it takes 30 minutes to walk) and we had everything we needed. We are grateful we found this place.
Great location in Machico! Very clean with all that you need, including secure parking. Ana contacted us to let us know that we could check in early, which was really helpful. She also provided a welcome gift of wine and local cakes, as well at bathrobes and beach towels -some very nice touches. Two non-touristy cafes next door with good coffee and ponchas.
- Good location a short walk from Machico centre (bakery, supermarket, restaurants) overlooking the bay
- Large house with plenty of space for a family or group of friends, 2,5 bathrooms
- Terrace on the top floor makes for great vistas for breakfast and dinner
- Services like car rental offered by the owners very convenient at competitive rates
Everything you need for a good vacation in Madeira, if you want to feel the real, not the touristic, Madeira. The kindest host, truly welcoming and warm attitude. The restaurant serves traditional Madeira cuisine, locals also love this place. Fantastic location with the superb views.
Exceptional value for money, and very large place especially for 1 person. Could house a family easily. Easy enough to reach from Madeira airport by car and to Sao Lourenco reserve the next morning. Proprietors provided all the information needed to find the property and get in.
Very well decorated and nice location! We picked this appartement since we had to catch the plane early the next morning. Machico itself was small and not very interested compared to other places in Madeira. Close to PR8 hike which is magnificent.
The view from the room was excellent, you can see the waves in here them and leave the windows open and just keep cool that way. Staff is friendly and helpful, and they let me park my motorcycle outside in the vestibule of the hotel.
Spent 10 days there and honestly, it's a perfect place to stay in Madeira. Fully equipped spacious and clean unit 5 minutes away from the sandy beach, the shop, and the restaurants. I couldn't be more satisfied.
Nice stay at the city center – minutes from sand beach, restaurants and bus stops. Amazing stay, that can tell you a lot about madeira’s best places, culture and food.
Luís is very nice and helpful, he left us typical cake of Madeira. The room was new and clean and we had everything what we need. We can really recommand!
