Really hilly.
Really hilly. Though it is a good start for many walks on levadas. Restaurant Viola is the best restaurant in Madeira if you like beef on a steak (espatadas). Also old town of Camara de Lobos is a beautiful place during the night to eat and have a cocktail. Probably the best old town on the island. :)

It is away from the hustle and bustle of Funchal, yet only 20 minutes away by car. It is well located for exploring the surrounding countryside and the charming seaside town of Camara de Lobos. Is is a quiet town but there are some local bars and cafes where you can get a flavour of local life plus sample local drinks and food. Whilst it is possible to get around by bus, a car is a better option as it is much more convenient, but only for those comfortable driving on narrow mountain roads.

Excellent place to stay, everything you need is at the hotel, the kids (age 9 and 4) never got bored! Weather was abit hit & miss not sure if it’s because it’s high up in the mountains, there seemed to be a lot of cloud. Go to the top of the hill to see the fantastic view point & go on the green tourist train, the driver is so funny!
