Canico itself has not much to offer, but it is a quiet, clean neighborhood and a 12 min drive from both Funchal and the Airport, however most of the things to do was either in the heart of the island or at the northern part, so be ready to drive around. There are restaurants and multiple grocery stores in the area.

Caniço is a lovely little place to stay with plenty of shops/bars/restaurants. There are many large hotels in the area but it is possible to keep away from them and the associated mass tourism.
There is a great sea front walk from the public car park leading to a great restaurant mainly frequented by the locals and this is about 10-15 mins away from the centre.

Nice apartment, very close to the beach and good proximity to Funchal. There are some small things that were missing like shower gel :(, shampoo, soap, beach towels ... also we had some problems with the entrance door in the building but this was resolved fast with the help of neighbors. The parking in front of the building is paid and this should be noted in apartment info. all in all it was a good experince

Great location to explore Madeira island.
Great location to explore Madeira island. Main roads just couple of minutes away so it is very easy to reach any place in the island by car. Many food/drinks stores in Canico. Many restaurants and cafe's.

If you want to visit Madeira, you definitely need to rent a car. I recommend a small car like a Fiat500 or a Fiat Panda because the roads in the cities and villages can be really (I mean REALLY) narrow.
Many thanks to Sandra and her father for their accommodation in Madeira.
We traveled as a group of 7 people, and everything went perfectly well. Sandra helped us with everything we needed. Welcome wine, bread and fruit made us very happy. Her dad helped us take the suitcases to the airport.
The accommodation was very clean and nice. we would love to come back one more time and I would very much like to meet more people like Sandra and her family.
Thanks a lot,
Anastasia!
The apartment is very luxurious and well equipped, and the view from the balcony is wonderful. We enjoyed having a glass of wine there on the warm Madeiran summer evening. The place was spotlessly clean and the bed is very comfortable. We received a very warm welcome from the host and will definitely stay here again next visit. If you stay here, make sure to spend a night at La Teraça restaurant. It's a fifteen minute walk from the apartment and absolutely lovely.
It was absolutely lovely stay! The Canico is calmer than Funchal, which for us was a reason of this choice. The view from the apartament is really wonderful, the whole place is spacious and super well equiped. The terrace has a lot of place to rest. There is a parking lot in front of the house. Next time I am visiting Madera, I will be happy to be back at this apartament. The WiFi connection was great, place also recommended for people working remotely
The appartement is clean well kept with modern inventory (could use a ventilator in the bedrooms on very warm nights though ;) ) and is situated in a nice building and centrally located in caniço. Nice view of the sea from the balcony. Public transportation to funchal is good but you have to make a study of the departure times. The island is exceptional. It's not a beach island, and you really need transport to get around to explore. All was good.
Location was great, 20 min. from Funchal, very close to bus stop, really calm and silent place, very close beautiful beach. We had a place for rented car in garage. And really tasty espresso in caffe close to bus stop. Host was friendly and helpful. I really recomend this place for staying in Madeira.
I absolutely loved the flat. I have stayed in many places but this place was just stunning. I highly recommend it to everyone. Pedro and his wife are such nice people and always ready to help. Madeira island is just an amazing place to visit and so is this flat. Thank you for everything Pedro!
Beautiful lobby, great staff. As many big hotels in Madeira, the golden age is behind for some of the equipment. However, room (upgraded) still was very clean and had a nice renovated bathroom. In comparison to other Madeira hotels, the breakfast selection was wider. Still slightly repetitive.
The apartment was quite comfortable. The only small disappointment was the view off the balcony. We could see the ocean but did not look down on lava pools as it looked in the photo but looked down on a hotel. But the balcony was very nice and the apartment was comfortable.
Very cozy small hotel with the great location. The room was very clean and comfortable, and lucky me, with the ocean view.
Friendly and helpful receptionists.
Nice garden restaurant.
There are several restaurants and miimarkets around.
Easy to get to Funchal.
- the owners are so kind and available
- amazing view
- facilities: the apartment has a patio with grill facility
- the apartment is big and cozy
- many good restaurant in Madeira, but also possible to cook in the apartment: the kitchen is well equipped.
This is very good apartment! Well equipped, new and clean. There is comfortable parking in the building as well as the market on the groundfloor. Nice ocean view and good kitchen. Perfect choice for longer stays at Madeira!
Loved the location.
A shame we couldn’t access sea until after 10am ish more like 10:30.
Breakfast could be better as some fruit was canned and felt this was unnecessary for Madeira
I was not happy with my first room, however the front desk was understanding and moved me to a nicer room which was much better. I would say this hotel is in need of some major updating.
Very clean and beautiful place. Good location - always sunny in this area, you can reach restaurants/pubs by foot and drive to most of the famous Madeira locations quickly.
Absolutely everything. On-site parking, elevator, well-equipped flat, radiator (which you appreciate even in Madeira in DEC), roomy rooms, 2 bathrooms, good location...
Modern hotel with a beautiful pool and breathtaking sea view.
Also SPA facilities are very good.
The breakfast was very diverse and tasty.
Very big and comfy bed.
