Beautiful Like a Porcelain Doll
Delft is a picturesque Dutch city with canals and historic buildings, situated between Rotterdam and The Hague. Birthplace of the famous Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer, this destination is also home to the iconic Delft blue porcelain and the University of Technology.
Like a phoenix from the ashes, the 17th century Town Hall of Delft was destroyed on 1618 and rebuilt by the architect Hendrick de Keyser. Located across from the City Hall in the centre of the Market square, the Protestant church of Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) with the imposing tower is connected with the Dutch Royal Family.
Resting place for Piet Hein, Maarten Tromp and Johannes Vermeer, the Oude Kerk (Old Church) was built in 1240 and is one of the main landmarks of the city along with the Prinsenhof. Booking.com offers a variety of apartments and hotels in the centre of Delft.
The Delftware factories with the blue ceramics and the hand-painted porcelain are definitely something that travellers should not miss while visiting the Netherlands. Weather permitting, you can enjoy a local beer on a canal terrace.
Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is about 40 minutes away by car or public transport. Delft railway station has train connections to Amsterdam, Utrecht and Leiden.

The town is so unique, churches to visit and beautiful squares surrounded by restaurants and cafes. Lovely places for brunch in the mornings and for beer in the evenings. The atmosphere in the evenings is wonderful. It is easy to get around on foot. the view from the New Church roof top is spectacular, tho the 300+ steps are not easy. Delft is a nice size, easily walkable for the main part.
Delft is a nice size, easily walkable for the main part. Train station to the centre is 15-20 minutes maximum. Plenty of hotels, good restaurants of all cuisines, Dutch, Indonesian were ones we tried, but there are French, European, smaller snack-type bistros too. We spent just a couple days in Delft, but the Vermeer Centre and Museum Prinsenhof were well worthwhile, spent most of a day in each. We could have spent longer in Delft.

Central or old Delft is well worth a visit.
Central or old Delft is well worth a visit. It’s on a human scale. The two big churches are beautiful, the working windmill is charming and the Vermeer Centrum is interesting. We particularly enjoyed how peaceful the town is, with great crested grebes, coots and other waterfowl swimming in its serene canals. Cyclists outnumber motorists and the town has a youthful atmosphere owing to the university. Shops and restaurants offer very good products, food and service at reasonable prices. Above all, the people are very helpful and friendly.AAnonymous - 10Scored 10

Delft is a lovely place and I hope to take my wife next time as the food, bars and atmosphere in the centre was lovely. The many bars and places to eat will suit most people and they are all (well the ones I tried) were reasonably priced. I will certainly go back again - and hopefully not involving a business trip.

lots of history and wealth, as well as blossoming tech research. loved the climb up the tower of the "new-church", scary, felt like touching the clouds. it was interesting to find out how local politics evolved around water management as a crucial part of life.

In view of my review of the hotel, I would recommend Delft...
In view of my review of the hotel, I would recommend Delft but not the hotel particularly because of the noise issue and disagreeable frying smells in the morning. If those things get sorted I will be happy to book at this hotel again.

The staff was very friendly and welcoming. I could strongly feel they really enjoyed what they were doing and welcomed each guest wholeheartedly. It's a combination of both student accommodation and hotel guest rooms. The whole place was very energetic with a fantastic feel of being young (again), pretty like a university hall with common areas on the ground floor. I stayed on the top floors, nice and quiet, and the view of the town was great.

The staff were super friendly and helpful and left us clear instructions on how to check-in after the front desk closed as we arrived late at night. The fact we could rent bikes as well meant the half an hour walk to the centre of Delft was reduced to a 10 minute ride. Would highly recommend Delftse Hout to anyone looking for a budget friendly letting around Delft.

Open to students and the public alike the student hotel is in a great location right next to the train station (but with no noise) and close to the centre.
