Nanjing always seems to me to be a real Chinese city - I love trying to explore. The metro is easy, the city is well-connected with Beijing and Shanghai. The people in my experience were very friendly and there is a lot to see, both in museums and outside. There is a real sense of history here.

Nanjing is not a crowded city.
Nanjing is not a crowded city. Most attractions are within the city and can be easily reached by subway or bus. The cost of transportation in Nanjing is very reasonable. There is so much history to see and experience in Nanjing!
However, the people are not used to the sight of foreigners in town. Expect to get taken pictures of or approached by curious children.

I enjoy the peace and calm of the area.
I enjoy the peace and calm of the area.
It is a clash of urban development projects and towering skyscrapers.
Community members are endearing.
Getting around is easy but pay attention to your distance requirements/preferences to the cbd from your hotel and the distance from your hotel to the airport. Research!!!
I stayed for a day for work but I got a glimpse of the cbd. It is neatly trimmed and sprouting with skyscrapers and relaxed community members.
Quite my scene.

Each time I have been in Nanjing, I absolutely enjoyed my time there and I would highly recommend it to anyway travelling to eastern China.
Although Nanjing might be less-known than other cities in the Shanghai hinterland like Suzhou and Hangzhou, it is definitely worth a prolonged visit, especially because it is so easy to go there by train from Shanghai.
Being a culture-seeking tourist, the following short list of places to visit in this former capital city is already somewhat like a candy store: the former Presidential Palace, the mausoleum of Sun Yat-Sen, the Nanjing Massacre Memorial museum, the former residence of John Rabe, Nanjing Museum, multiple temples and pagodas, an impressive city wall, the Gate of China, the archaeological site of the former Ming palace and the mausoleum of emperor Hongwu.
And, obviously, the buzzing city life in this student city (about 20 universities and institutes of higher education) is far from absent with plenty of shopping malls, street food shops and restaurants in Xinjiekou and the historical Qinhuai river district.
I would definitely recommend everyone to check it out and give it some thought on planning your (next) trip to China.
Horrible experience the hotel should not have conducted renovation project while guest is staying. Especially I was not told about this before booking. During my stay my room was right below the construction site the drill sound was so loud and vibrating either in the morning or afternoon and I could not sleep or having a nap properly. I couldn’t work because of the noise and I am extremely disappointed when I complained the reception made up an exercise saying they only decided to renovate the hotel after I checked in. What a shame.
The location is superb, just a very short and easy walk away from most of the main sights in Nanjing. The staff are the most helpful hotel staff I've ever dealt with and the service has been the best I've ever received in any hotel I've stayed in to date. To name just one example, when I told the receptionists I needed a knife to cut some fruit, they literally delivered one to my door by sending someone to my room.
It is essentially a best location in Nanjing city center where the main subway station right beneath it. Staff super friendly, with high quality service. Room I stayed was not as new or modernized as the other suite tower but they were maintained clean as the same standard for a 5 star hotel. I really like this hotel and will choose this one again in future.
The service provided was brilliant. Many thanks to Rui Zeng who was very helpful when checked in. Gave a free upgrade when I asked for an early check in as the room was not ready. Fruits provided to the room when moved in. The hotel is in city centre and tge shopping mall is just 1 min away.
Breakfast plentiful though extremely busy with lots of families. Location was ok; I knew I would be able to use the metro to get into central Nanjing and it's a short walk to the metro in Nanjing Train Station. No problem there. Price pretty reasonable and staff friendly (not much English).
The room and bathroom, while old and dated, is exceptionally clean. Breakfast was lovely with a huge range of choice. Location was perfect. However there are loads of similarly priced hotels in this central location so I dont think the negatives of this hotel make it worth it's price.
Not accepting my cards to pay when accepted everywhere.
Not accepting euros when accepted everywhere
Not giving cash from eur to rmb when it should be the case
Not speaking French when it is a French chain hotel
Speaking poor English
Poor continental European breakfast
All staffs in the hotel are very kind. They tried to help me when they saw me in the lobby. They called a taxi with their own app because I could not use China local calling taxi. Hotel room was simple and clean like business hotel style. So far good. Highly recommend!
Atour's staff were super helpful, friendly and welcoming. My Mandarin isn't very good and they were patient with me. Beautiful rooms, spacious and super comfortable. Much better than some mainstream branded hotels that I stay at often. Less than 100m to Line 1 Metro.
The hotel owner is a great guy, he picked us around 2am from the airport for free, basically he make up everything, otherwise I will rate even lower. The price is super low, and despite the hotels located in a rural area, it seems quite safe.
I didn't have the breakfast because I had to travel early to the airport, but I imagine judging by the smell of it that it would have tasted delicious. It was an excellent room with everything you could need.
The location is great. It is part of the garden (芥子园), and next to the famous 老门东。 The staff is wonderful and the rooms are very clean. It is the best hotel we stayed during our 3 weeks trip in China
Very nice hotel. Great location! The tallest building in the Nanjing and the 7th tallest all over the world. There are a lot of restaurants and bars, lobby at the 45th floor.
