Luoyang is a typical lower tier Chinese city that is rapidly developing - excellent local bus transport system, building their first metro system, just getting used to foreign tourists etc. Therefore, very few foreign restaurants or bars. Local people are friendly and will try to help - via translations apps. Louyang is rapidly becoming a WeChat Pay only city - so cash is not accepted in some places.

    Don’t go in winter.

Don’t go in winter. It gets VERY cold, and many of the attractions are outdoors and rely on their gardens. They also do their renovations in winter, so some things were shut (but little to no signage to indicate it was closed or what to do instead).

The Longmen Grottos were definitely the highlight of our stay in Luoyang. The temple of the white horse was really nice and relaxing. The old town in Luoyang itself was fun at night. The Shaolin monastery at the Song Shan was a 90 min drive away but the area of the Song Shan is beautiful and rather than visiting the monastery I would go for a hike in the area.

Luoyang is very rich in attractions, a minimum stay of 3 days is recommended. Highlights include the Longmen caves, Shaolin temple (which can be conveniently reached by public bus), Luoyang museum and the night market.

As with any Holiday Inn Express the hotel lacks character, but is in a good location with easy access by taxi to the train station, grottoes and the old town. Also there is a nice mall a short walk away and a fountain light show 3 days a week. Superior King room (was same price as Standard Queen) was actually quite nice and spacious. Disappointing though that there is no fridge in the room (seriously?). Breakfast was included and although simple a good enough to start the day.

The location was great, the breakfast was good with lots of options, the coffee from the coffee shop is some of the best coffee I've had in China, the food was delicious and the staff were extremely friendly. The bed was comfortable, and had a memory foam topper on it. The location was ideal, and it was easy to get the bus to the Longmen Grottoes and back, as well as transport to other places.

The staff was super friendly and I enjoyed the welcome bag of apples and fanta we recieved upon check in. The hotel was very close to everything we wanted to do, 15 minutes away from the Longmen Grottoes, food, malls and museums! The breakfast was fantastic with lots of food and drink options. It smelled super nice in the lobby as well

The location is very convenient as the hotel is located in 应天门. The coffee at the hotel's coffee shop was really good. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The hotel terrace is a great place to watch the sunset and have a nice dinner.

The hotel on a map in booking app doesn’t show the correct location, it’s on Kaiyuan avenue but taxi drivers knows or ask around, other than that very good location for reasonable price and our room was generous in space. :)
