Hohhot should be considered just as a starting or end point for a trip through inner Mongolia, the city is not very special. We stayed an extra day in Hohhot to see the dinosaur museum but we didn't realize it is closed on Mondays.

Better to get there in summer - July - August as it doesn’t usually rain apparently. Out desert trip was perfect. The grassland was great on our first day but it rained the following day so we were not able to do activities like sunrise / sunset watching, horse riding and any outdoor related. Sky was grey, it was wet and cold. And this was only late September.

The city is much different that any other Chinese cities I have visited. Although it was also the most northern one at that point (I have been to Hailar afterwards).
The best thing is that everyone can use their city bikes, I explored 80% of the city in those seven days by using their bikes and e-bikes. There is a huge park in the south of the city, near the Wetlands, that is totally worth visiting. The muslim street is also beautiful and a must.
The long pedestrian street with Altai Khan's statue has some amazing restaurants with traditional Mongolian food (I'd recommend camel meat pies, dairy products like nowhere else in China, sweet cheese cakes, some grass fed lamb chops and of course the milk whiskey to wash it all down, the 3% ones are better imho).
Qingcheng park has some breathtaking lotuses to admire, and a peculiar rollercoaster that kind of serves as a tour bus around the park. Also some haunting old entertainment park machines where people gather to do clay painting now.
Hohhot surely has some magical vibe around it, although I have to say I visited in August, when the weather is not as harsh as during winter.

The city itself is very dispersive and not very nice at first glance, there's no so much to see and visit so I would recommend to stay not more than 2 days. As suggested by all the guides, a trip to grasslands definitely worths (better if you have the chance to spend the night in a yurth) and so the mongolian food, delicious! If you have few free ours to spend in the city, definitely go to Dazhao temple: STUNNING.

Amazing temples are walking distance from downtown hotels,...
Amazing temples are walking distance from downtown hotels, there is a really professional history museum with excellent English translations (plus a huge, new art museum across the street). Also took a bizarre but really fun day trip to the grasslands. I had a great time in Hohhot!
Overall my stay was wonderful, from the well appointed room and excellent facilities to the delicious breakfast and dinner. I believe the hotel is excellent value for money and, although a little far from the city centre, it is seconds away from a metro station as well as several bus stops; it’s also super convenient to/from both the airport and east railway station. I must also mention the staff, all of whom were incredibly friendly and helpful, despite the language barrier on my part.
Comparing with other hotel, the location of this hotel have more quiet space, I really enjoy this. On the ground floor, buffet is good,to be honest, I think the breakfeast is more yammy than others times food. Staffs are kindness, reception staff specially more welcoming. They help me a lot and give some suggestion for tavelling. Really appreciate for all the help. Recommanding this amazing hotel.
Perfect Stay in Hohhot. Very nice hotel, Mrs. Jula from the staff was so kind and helpful, perfect english as well. The room is big and clean, we also got some fruits and coffee as a welcome. Late check out was no problem at all. Breakfast has everything what you want.
I can totally recommend this hotel, everything perfect! Thanks!
The hotel is very close to all the major sites. The staff were very friendly with good English. They were all very helpful. Chefs, reception and cleaners were lovely, warm and welcoming.
Loved the location, great proximity to the airport and Hohhot East train station. Lots of local shops on the block. A brand new hotel, very clean and comfortable,
