Lots of history in this smaller than average city going back to the Korean war and also the most Eastern part of the Great Wall of China. Lots of restaurants that offer the famous Dan Dong BBQ. Good travel connections and taxis with the option to take a boat on the river to see the Korean side which was remarkably close with surprisingly few restrictions in place. The city was also very clean and relaxing to travel in compared to larger city travel. The Green Duck river was also easily visible from our bedroom window giving a relaxing feel to the area. Hire cars could be made available through the hotel and driving would present few problems here. All in all our stay was comfortable and enjoyable, but please bear in mind that we rated this property as an excellent 3+star hotel based on our international travel experiences, not 5 star mainly due to the lack of facilities and room information. We would certainly recommend this hotel viewed in that way and thank the management for their very helpful assistance with our delayed travel plans.

Trip to Fenghuang Mountain not to be missed.

Trip to Fenghuang Mountain not to be missed. Great Wall was o.k. Broken bridge going to N Korea is worth a look. Allow plenty of time to visit Fenghuang Mountain, Note that cable cars not operating in winter season but possible to climb on foot. Bus travel easy to use, cheap and regular.

Dandong has been one of our favorite trips in China (we've take A LOT of them). Very cool with a fun culture and weirdly fun tourist activities. Phoenix Mountain (凤凰山) in nearby Feng City (凤城) is a MUST, as well as the Tiger Mountain Great Wall (虎山长城).

Difficult to get to the Great Wall, went to one of the street sellers and for £12.50 100 yuan, we took a bus, bit rickety, for an hour upstream got some great views. The boats on Tourism Warf only take you round that area not as scenic. The food absolutely first class and cheap. Although no one spoke English, so good translator on your phone a must, everyone was so helpful with a bit of miming etc

    Very pleasant smaller Chinese city.

Very pleasant smaller Chinese city. The main attraction of Dandong is the border with North Korea and the North Korean themes such as Korean restaurants, merchandise and the Korean War Museum, however, Dandong is a charming small Chinese city that is excellent for a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of first or second tier city life.

It was a nice experience that I could walk along the Yalu River. There was no bad thing while I stayed in two days in Dandong. It should be nice if bookings.com could add the Dandong Railway Station Hotel as an additional accommodation.
