FAQs about hotels in Beijing

From Chinese Dynasties to Cultural Dynamics

A world-renowned gem, sprawling Beijing has magnificent monuments and peaceful parks. At its heart is the world’s largest square - Tiananmen, surrounded by important museums and the amazing Forbidden City. This 15th-century, walled complex of palaces neighbours Jingshan Park and Beihai Park with its imperial garden.

Opposite Tiananmen Square is the ultra-modern National Centre for Perfoming Arts, a beacon of the city’s culture so impressively displayed at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the Bird’s Nest Stadium.

To its east is the UNESCO World-Heritage listed Summer Palace, a lakeside retreat of emperors, while also UNESCO listed is the grand Temple of Heaven in Chongwen district, where remnants of Ming dynasty city walls are visible. Nearby are several hutongs, narrow alleys whose traditional architecture contrasts with wider, modern roads including Beijing Financial Street, the city's business area.

The most popular Beijing shopping street is Wangfujing, and other must-see sights include the giant pandas at Beijing Zoo and the Great Wall of China, an easy day trip from Beijing.

As you would expect from the capital of the world’s most populous country, there are a good number of 5-star hotels in Beijing on Booking.com, mainly in the Dongcheng and Chaoyang districts. There are also several hotels near Beijing Capital Airport in the north-east.

A great capital city with lots to see.

A great capital city with lots to see. Super easy to get around by metro or didi/taxi. Close to the Great Wall which was a highlight for us - go to the less touristy parts of the wall for a better experience! Forbidden city has to be seen but the crowds and immense size make it pretty exhausting after a couple of hours. The park to the north of forbidden city offers an amazing view of the whole complex but again super busy if you go at certain times. We also enjoyed exploring the hutongs with their small local restaurants and bars. Four days was about right to see the main sights and not get overwhelmed by all the people!

I have travelled to Beijing many times and love the vibe of the city. The safety aspect is very important. The locals are always curious about where you are from and learning a little of the language will help things along greatly. My favourite things to do are exploring the hutongs and small alleyways looking for hidden restaurants and coffee shops. I can strongly recommend you eat with the locals and try and avoid western restaurants. If you do visit carry your passport at all times as you'll be asked for it at the most random of tourist sites plus it is used in place of tickets for trains, attractions etc. DOWNLOAD AND ACTIVATE ALIPAY WELL BEFORE YOU ARRIVE, you'll figure out why.

Travel in winter means all taxes & restaurant are smokey. I wish I know that to start. Restaurants do not offer tea in pot but water only, disappointing. Still would travel in Beijing, perhaps in autumn when is not cold and smokey in doors.

Exploring Beijing was an absolute marvel!

Exploring Beijing was an absolute marvel! This city, steeped in over a thousand years of history, unfolded before me like a captivating story. From hidden secrets of the past to the vibrant pulse of modern life, Beijing is a treasure trove of experiences waiting to be uncovered. Wandering through the ancient alleyways, I discovered the rich tapestry of Beijing's past. The Forbidden City and the Great Wall stood as silent witnesses to centuries gone by, offering a profound connection to the city's historical legacy. Beijing's culinary scene was equally enchanting. Street food stalls and traditional teahouses beckoned, offering a delightful journey through a myriad of flavors. Each dish seemed to carry a piece of the city's cultural heritage, making every meal a unique and memorable experience. Beyond its historical and gastronomic wonders, Beijing pulsated with the vibrant energy of a modern metropolis. Bustling markets, serene parks, and the juxtaposition of ancient traditions against a modern backdrop created an atmosphere of dynamism and excitement. In a nutshell, visiting Beijing was an incredible adventure, a perfect blend of ancient charm and contemporary allure. The city's hidden secrets, rich history, diverse cuisine, and vibrant spirit made every moment an exploration into the heart of China's capital

The Mutianyu great wall was good.

The Mutianyu great wall was good. Our hotel manager got us a rented car with a driver for the day.(750 Yuan). We left at 0900 and reached at 1030. There you need to buy a ticket for a shuttle bus to the cable car station. A hike is possible, but it's 3km uphill to the cbale car station. The ticket inclused the shuttle bus and cable car ride. We travelled up to tower 14 with a cable car, and then walked down to tower 5 for the toboggan ride back. Both transports are run by different companies, and the signs are not in english. Each company will try and persuade you to take only their rides up and down from the same tower. What we did cost more, but we got to walk the wall. And since it was downwards, it was a walk that's possible even for the elderly.

The staff were very friendly and considerate. They were also very flexible with the changes of rooms and schedules when I stayed there. I arrived before 9am and they let me into my room. They even offered me the breakfast for that day. I did not take the breakfast there that morning but appreciated their kindness. The staff members were always ready to help and most of time you don't even have to ask. Amazing stays I had with this hotel for about one week and I definitely would consider rebooking for another holiday in Beijing.

We enjoyed our fantastic stay at the Happy Dragon Hotel Beijing. The staff was quite helpful, especially the smart and active girl Hewwa, who gave us recommendations for places to see and booked the tickets for us. The location is 2 minutes walk from a metro station, making it simple to commute to major sites. If you intend to visit the forbidden city, please book your tickets at least a week in advance. You can also contact the hotel for additional assistance with the booking and recommendations.

Fantastic location and great view to CCTV tower in the heart of beijing CBD. There is a china world mall beside which you can spend several days in and enjoy different restaurants and luxurious shops there. And finally you can access subway line 1 station easily from the the hotel by going in the china world mall shopping center, the signs accurately guide you to the station. And also the gym and swimming pool equipped by all the facilities you need for a professional workout.

The Orchid's location is fantastic, in the middle of Beijing's hutongs (great area to walk around and get lost in) and close to the drum & bell tower, nanluoguxiang and even the forbidden city is only a 10 minute bicycle ride away. The hotel itself is lovely, it's like staying in an tiny old Chinese village. Staff is wonderful too, very helpful and friendly. As for places to eat around the hotel - try Mr Shi dumplings in the same street as the hotel, highly recommended!

The hotel was very central, the room was very comfortable and everyone was extremely friendly. Mark, from the hotel was always helpful, assisting with booking visits to monuments, or arranging cars to/from airport or to other places in Beijing. From letting us do the check in earlier as we arrived to the hotel in the morning, to suggesting the best places to eat, or visit in Beijing. Such an amazing experience, would repeat and recommend to anyone!

The hotel is lovely, just what I needed. It has a gym and a swimming pool which is great if you want some exercise other than walking all day in Beijing. The room was huge for a solo visitor. Aircon worked well. Both front desk staff and cleaning staff were incredibly welcoming, helpful and kind. They also registered me with the police (the mandatory registration all visitors in China have to do the first 24/h) which was great.

Firstly, the location is super convenient to Wangfujin Walk and local restaurants. Our hotel rooms both twin and couple were very roomy and comfortable, decor was modern and airy, clever design of the bathroom sliding partition! Out of the four cities we've been to on our trip, This hotel offered the best breakfast with friendly and courteous staff. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Beijing for their vacation.

I must say Jingshan garden hotel is a hidden gem of a remodelled Huton family home, a rarity in today Beijing, clean beautifully decorated, and is only about 300m from the east gate of Jingshan garden which is connected to the west entrance of Beihai garden. The hotel is well kept, has 16 guest rooms, and a beautifully courtyard. The hotel has a decent size restaurant, also, friendly and attentive servers and a great chef.

Fridge ceaselessly stocked with water. Fabulous value for money. Extraordinary variety at breakfast. Helpful reception staff, many of whom spoke good English.
